The Portland Trail Blazers have offered Utah Jazz free agent Paul Millsap a four-year contract worth between $32 million and $36 million, according to league sources.

The offer includes a hefty signing bonus that will make it difficult for Utah to match. The Jazz will be presented with the offer Saturday and have seven days to match because Millsap is a restricted free agent.

Chris Broussard covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine.

I hope something terrible happens to Kevin Pritchard.

I also hope Utah matches and then spends the rest of the Pritchard era sticking their finger in the eye of Portland as viciously and as often as they can.

Not that Milsap isn't a really good player, but last I checked Portland already had a pretty good PF.

Jazz and Boozer pimped Cleveland.
Now Boozer pimps Jazz, costing them Milsap.

Jazz will match this though. Boozer's a gonner sometime between next offseason and any minute now. So they'll keep Milsap.

I agree that Utah will match it. At least we screw their salary cap situation for a while.

You guys need to quit worrying about Utah and do the rest of the nba a favor by throwing $50 million at Lamar Odom.

utah will have to match. and yeah, crippling utah's situation doesn't do much for the blazers. they need to screw with the lakers, or at least another contender.

If they're going to spend money on a PF, can somebody explain to me Why the fuck don't they go after Odom?

Besides I'm pretty sure that LA will match any offer. If they don't want to get Odom they should make him an offer anyways and fuck with LA's salary situation, it's the noble thing to do.

That's what I don't get. First they go after a 3 and now they after a 4 (having a really good one already). WTF are they doing?

The Turkoglu thing was stupid imo. Our biggest need is a backup PF and Millsap would be as good as it gets.

The offer is signed. Jazz have the week. And, Nate McMillan's contract has been extended.

Blazers sign F Paul Millsap to offer sheet (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-trailblazers-millsap&prov=ap&type=lgns)
By Anne M. Peterson

The Portland Trail Blazers signed restricted free agent forward Paul Millsap to an offer sheet Friday.

The Utah Jazz have seven days to match the offer. The terms were not disclosed by the Blazers because of team policy.

Millsap’s agent did not immediately respond to phone calls and e-mails seeking comment.

Millsap averaged 13.5 points for the Jazz last season, getting double-doubles in 19 straight games while starting for Carlos Boozer, and has career averages of 9.4 points and 6.4 rebounds since the Jazz selected him with the No. 47 pick in the 2006 draft.

The Jazz already have high salaries committed to a number of players for next season, including Boozer. He was expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, but declined the option and Utah owes him $12.7 million. Deron Williams, Andrei Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur all will earn at least $9 million, meaning the Jazz could be well over the salary cap if they match the offer to Millsap.

The Trail Blazers were $7.7 million under the salary cap after the league set it at $57.7 million for next season. The cap is determined by a percentage of league revenue from the previous season.

ESPN.com reported Friday night that Portland’s offer to Millsap was for four years and up to $36 million.

Should the deal go through, the 6-foot-8 Millsap could back up Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge.

Asked whether the team had reservations about spending money on a bench player, general manager Kevin Pritchard said Thursday: “I’m a big believer in that you get the best player.”

Last week, the Blazers showed interest in free agent forward Hedo Turkoglu, but talks crumbled.

Turkoglu, who helped Orlando to the NBA finals, was in Portland last week to speak with the Blazers before negotiations were abruptly cut off. He has since been acquired by the Toronto Raptors.

The announcement concerning Millsap capped an eventful Friday for the Trail Blazers.

First came word that draft pick Patty Mills had broken his foot Thursday night during a practice for the NBA’s summer league. He was scheduled for surgery on Monday.

After starring for Australia in the Beijing Olympics and for Saint Mary’s in college, the 6-foot point guard was selected by the Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the NBA draft last month.

The Blazers open summer league play Monday against Toronto. Their roster includes second-year guard Jerryd Bayless and draft picks Jeff Pendergraph and Dante Cunningham.

Portland also exercised its option on coach Nate McMillan’s contract, extending it through the 2010-11 season.

McMillan led the Blazers to a 54-28 record last season and their first appearance in the playoffs since 2003. It was the sixth-best record in franchise history.
