MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=mem) have waived Jerry Stackhouse (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=802), just a day after acquiring the NBA veteran in a four-team, eight-player trade.
General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced the move Friday after Thursday's blockbuster deal involving the Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=dal), Toronto Raptors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=tor) and Orlando Magic (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=orl).
As part of the trade, Grizzlies guard Greg Buckner (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=111) was sent to Dallas, and the Grizzlies also received a second-round pick and cash from Toronto and cash from Dallas.
The 34-year-old Stackhouse was due more than $7 million with the Mavericks next season, but his contract could be bought out for $2 million -- likely the amount of cash Memphis received in the trade.

Stack was a scoring machine in his prime, he once even got the 2nd highest pt/g in a season only behind Iverson (in fact he got more points in total as AI missed more games than he did in that season). I think trading Jamison for him was among the rare decent trades Donnie has ever made during his career, not to mention the pick we got in this trade turned to Devin Harris some time later.

Anyone that shoots under 40% is hurting the team. Unless most his shots were 3's, that is horrible efficiency from mid range.

When Stack was second in scoring in the league, his teammates in the starting line-up were Ben Wallace, Michael Curry, Joe Smith, and Chucky Atkins. And, he averaged 24 shot attempts per game and shot 40.2% from the field.

Stack would have been a 20 or so ppg scorer on nearly any other team. On that team, they told him to jack a shot every time down and that no shot was a bad shot for him. They had no other serious threats on offense other than him. Corliss Williamson was the second leading scorer of that team.
