Mavs better have a backup plan. Cuban you know what to do....I'm not in favor of ever signing restricted players in the future...having to wait 7 days messes things up

Exactly, it's just like the Suns not trading Nash while he has some value left just because they are worried about OKC getting a high pick. There's no point in throwing away your future just to spite another team.

Yeah because their GM and owner are more worried about punking another GM and owner because they've been punked so many times.

Kerr developed a bad case of penis envy after Sam Presti took him to church with the Kurt Thomas trade, so now he's more worried about making sure that doesn't become the worst trade in NBA history rather than doing what's best for the team.

He would've been a nice addition. Not going to back away from that. Mavs should never do biz with Orlando again; Cuban should've offered Bass more money and they should've never recruited Orlando into the Marion trade, since they got a TE out of it and Dallas didn't need Orlando to get it done. Ya, this has been a really cut-throat free agency period. Teams just seem to be doing the signing equivalent of cock-blocking one another, now. So, where next for the Mavs? Obviously a F/C, right? Not alot left for FA. What kind of trade-able assets would you consider letting go for a Clipper big man?

WHo knows time will tell. With all seriousness though....Mavs should not jump and make a dumb trade. Damp can start and play 30 mins a game. Re-sign Hollins and get someone else for half the MLE...maybe Gooden or someone who can also play PF.

Losing Gortat is not a big deal....losing Bass to the same team is what sucks ass. Mavs sorta got played...but what goes around comes around and I'm sure Cuban will be waiting to stick it to the Magic eventually

I was really hoping for the guy, but it's not like the season hinges on the acquisition of Gortat. If they got him, great. If not, then there are other options. He's a fun guy to watch and I really wanted him in Dallas. Hell, HE wanted to be in Dallas.

Now Otis is going to be stuck with a highly-paid rent-a-player that's not going to get the minutes he wants and is wondering where his next home will be. Gortat will play, because he's a team player, but he can't be that happy about this. It's not what he wanted, ultimately. I hope this comes back to bite Otis right in the fucking ass.

A few years now? LMAO...2007, 2005...hmm...we're the only team in the Southwest Division with a banner last year...seems like we're the winners...no one, except Mavs fans, will remember beating the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs last year, but everyone will remember the Spurs being the division champs...we have the banner to prove it. So go on loving your "We beat the Spurs" trophy..and cuddle it..because it won't happen again. :)

Is this a serious post? I mean, a real serious post? Did you post this to make people laugh, or were you actually serious?

But Dampier is so amazing - why do they even need a back-up center?

To be a high energy big off the bench...

Actually, to be honest this is a very sad situation for Dallas fans.
What makes it comical is that an incompetent guy like Donnie Nelson is allowed to stay in his job.

"When we're ready, we'll pull the trigger"

Gortat's agent: Orlando will match Dallas Mavericks' offer

The Orlando Magic have indeed notified Marcin Gortat of its intent to match the offer sheet he signed with Dallas last week for $34 million over five years, according to Gortat's agent Guy Zucker.

Zucker said he received word from the Magic about two hours ago.

Gortat, who is in his native Poland, is "very, very disappointed," Zucker said.

The Mavs, certainly are, too. Zucker said he had been on the phone with "everyone" from Dallas since receiving the word and they had expressed disappointment. The Mavs lost forward Brandon Bass to the Magic last week, putting the Mavericks in shaky position in the post with few quality big men available. The Magic had until Wednesday to make a move on Gortat or let him go.

Gortat wanted to play in Dallas where he had a chance to be a starter and would certainly get more minutes than he does in Orlando, backing up Dwight Howard.
"They had a tremendous amount of confidence in Marcin," Zucker said of the Mavs.

Of course he is...who doesn't want to be overpaid?

To his credit, though, he's not one of those douches that are just in it for the money. He genuinely wants to play and Dallas afforded him the best opportunity to do so.

I agree certainly happy for the big money but I really think he wanted to have more minutes to show what he can do. It sucks for him and for the mavs.

Now is it possible to imagine Cuban doing something crazy to go after Odom?:downspin:

Fresh from the NBA Rumor Mill...Dallas has a trade already in place to get a decent big to fill the void left by Gortat.

I too agree he would have been good fit for the Mavs. I do also think Otis Smith is a son of a bitch though. I'd be pissed off too If I were a Mav fan.
