Daniels heading to Celtics (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-mdaniels071709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
By Marc Spears

Free-agent guard Marquis Daniels has committed to sign with the Boston Celtics, a league source said Friday.

Daniels will receive the Celtics’ $1.9 million biannual salary-cap exception if the Indiana Pacers aren’t interested in a sign-and-trade deal. The 6-foot-6 Daniels averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 54 games with Indiana last season, his third with the team. Daniels previously played three seasons with the Mavericks.

Daniels, 28, will help improve the Celtics’ perimeter depth. Boston signed free-agent forward Rasheed Wallace last week and remains interested in keeping forward Glen Davis.

Right, which is why the Pacers let him go. Pacers are gonna try to go with the all-vanilla starting five. :D

Very solid pick up for that price. I wish the Spurs would have gotten him.

Great pickup! Not a great shooter, but does everything else pretty well and is an active perimeter player in that regard. Boston and Orlando > Cleveland right now if all teams are healthy.

Nice move by the Celtics. Quis always seemed like one of those X-factor players to me.

Their Big 3 was scary enough, but with Rondo rounding out, Sheed in place, and now Daniels, looks like Boston means business.

Marquis is signing for the 1.9 biannual. It doesn't affect Big Baby, who will return to Boston unless someone pays him so much the Celtics won't match (or there's an unexpected sign and trade).

If they got Sheed and Daniels motivated and focused they'll go back to playing lockdown defense.

Looks like he's going to try to go the James Posey route. He'll try to translate the East Coast overrating him into a big payday next summer.

Not a bad idea.

wow the celtics got him cheap. this definitely improves their perimeter depth and without taking on a $4-5 million contract. great move by the celtics and bad news for the rest of the league.

Celtics definitely needed to add some good bench players, and it's nice to see us addressing that. Our bench was as thin as Kate Moss last year.

If they keep Glen Davis, the Celts bench should be solid.

House/Daniels/Sheed/Bab plus we have about 6 million in expiring deals in scalab/tony allen to aquire another player.

This kid can really ball, he's going to strengthen their bench big time. Surprised he signed for so cheap though...

Good move but his offense is iffy so he's the guy im leaving open to help elsewhere ...plus any mins he gets that means Ray, Pierce or house are sitting ...
But their defense will be good ...

Ive honestly never seen a Summer like this. The top teams are just distancing themselves so much over the rest of the league. Talk about the strong getting stronger and the weak getting weaker. Spurs, mavs, celtics, lakers, magic, and cavs are all just head and shoulders above the competition IMO. I mean you have portland and denver, but they really haven't done anything to keep up this summer. Those 6 teams are in another league now.

Fantastic move by the Celtics.

Gives them a poor mans Paul Pierce to allow the real Paul Pierce to rest more. The Celtics are looking very good at the moment, if they can maintain health, they are going to be very, very hard to beat.

:nope Someone is getting ahead of themselves. If all teams stay healthy there could be a wide variety of potential finals matchups-lakers/celts just being one of many. That being said I still would love to watch spurs/celts and see how that plays out. lots of storylines... KG-TD, Gino-ray, Dice-sheed, TP-rondo, jefferson-pierce. Would be a crazy series.

Oh I never said that was going to be the finals. I just said that particular matchup will be fun to watch. Spurs/Celts should also be fun to watch as well. Hell I am just happy the Celts are making the best of what they have because in 2 years they will be back at the bottom. I think theyll compete but they arent a lock for shit. Games have to be played.

LOL, yep. Spurs and Celts are eerily in a very similar situation. Young pg's, aging other players and trying to make the most of the few years left. GL to the celts, like a lot of their players (besides KG, just bugs me with his "motherfucker this, motherfucker that every damn second and his "Nothing is impossiblleeeeeeee"----way over the top for me), pierce and ray are class. That starting 5 matchup is just crazy interesting

KG-TD ....td
sheed-dice....sheed by a hair
pierce-jeff....pierce from experience, would be a good matchup tho
gino-ray.....ooh, if both healthy IDK, ill say tie
parker-rondo....parker
benches....both very respectable

I just did that for fun because that shit really doesn't matter at all but on paper those 5 are very close. We'll see how both teams end up working out with the new moves, and see if they both can stay healthy...crossing fingers both come out positive for both teams. :toast

lol @ Mavs fans complaining about losing out on Marquis fucking Daniels. Guy hasn't done shit since he's left Dallas.

Although he's a bargain for the LLE, he isn't even close to a difference maker in this league.

pretty spot on ghazi, but like you said, he could be a very valuable bench guy for them with their aging wings, and Yea for LLE, shit thats a steal. Like I said rich keep gettin richer, lol. Who knows what will go down next-guarantee there's a few more signings by the top tier teams before summers out. It's good to see players taking less money because they want to win a 'chip. I respect that, but in another way it could be seen as just a jump on the train move. But either way if a player takes less than they could've got elsewhere to try to win i respect that.

I agree. It is going to be a very intense marathon. The Spurs are stoic in their pursuits this off season. The Mavs are surprisingly as serious about moving into a position of contention. Their (Spurs|Mavs) intentions could lead to volatility throughout the Western Conference.

For the lle it's an absolute steal. Mavs bench blows other JET and could have used his offense. We all know jho will be hurt at some point and it quiz would have been a nice fill in at at. It simple moves like this that help build championship contenders

Oh well... not a big deal... better targets out there anywho... I would prefer a guard who can actually shoot anyhow.
