The San Antonio Spurs face their second-straight opponent from L.A. Wednesday when they welcome the LA Clippers to the SBC Center. The Spurs are 6-4 in their last 10 games and will be playing their eighth full game without Tim Duncan. The Spurs are coming off a 95-94 win over the Lakers on Saturday. San Antonio is 52-8 at home versus the Clippers all-time and won the first two contests of the season.
The Clippers are wrapping up a seven-game road trip in San Antonio - going 2-4 in the first six games after beating Charlotte on Tuesday. On the season, L.A. has a 33-41 record and are 5-5 in their last 10 games.
Things to Watch
Better To Give: When Tony Parker has eight or more assists in a game the Spurs usually find themselves in the win column...in the 21 games that Parker has recorded eight or more assists during the 2004-05 season the Spurs are 19-2...in games when he has handed out 10 or more assists the Spurs have gone a perfect 5-0..
Journey: The Clippers have had a rough go of it on the road this season going 9-28. The Clips, however, are coming off a pair of road wins - the first back-to-back road wins of the season for L.A. The last time the Spurs hosted the Clippers, it went down to the wire with Elton Brand missing a jumper at the buzzer - giving the Spurs an 80-79 win.
Injury Report
SPURS: Devin Brown (L4/L5 disc injury) injured list...Tim Duncan (right ankle sprain) injured list...Linton Johnson III (left ankle stress fracture) injured list.
Clippers: Bobby Simmons – lower left leg contusion – is a game-time decision
Chris Kaman – strained lower back – is a game-time decision
Zeljko Rebraca – sprained right wrist – is on the injured list
Kerry Kittles – degenerative disc, lower back – is on the injured list
Matchup
Robert Horry vs. Elton Brand: With Tim Duncan out of the Spurs’ lineup, Mike Dunleavy’s squad will likely look for Brand to provide a scoring and rebounding spark. The Clippers most durable and consistent player this season is #7 in the NBA in double-doubles, with 19.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. He can be a monster on the offensive glass in particular, but also brings a defensive presence in the lane with blocked shots (2.16). Horry has averaged 11.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 25.3 minutes over the past 10 games and has done a good job defensively against a variety of opposing forwards. Brand can sometimes struggle against bigger, taller forwards -- against Duncan this season, Brand averaged nearly six points below his standard line. But he is remarkably consistent and will try to use his muscle and strength inside against Horry and the Spurs frontline. The Spurs will have to work hard to keep Brand out of the paint and immediately put a body on him when shots go up in order to prevent the second-chance points that he creates with his rebounding and hustle.
Connections
Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy appeared in 79 games with the Spurs during the 1982-83 season...in addition, he served as a color commentator for Spurs television broadcasts during the 2002-03 season...Tony Massenburg appeared in 80 games with the Clippers
during the 1994-95 season,(for what team has'nt he played for :lol ) averaging 9.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest...retired Spur David Robinson became just the fourth player in NBA history to score more than 70 points in a game when he exploded for 71 against the Clippers in L.A. on 4/24/94.
