Summer's can be long but there is never enough time to do everything one wants. trying to apply for grad school and studying for the GRE takes some time out of my day, but sons by question is if i can only watch one tv series which one would that be? i have the first season of the wire ready to go in my laptop but is that the right decision?

somebody suggest what they would consider the best series ever.

I don't know if the Wire is the best show ever, but you certainly won't be disappointed after finishing all 5 seasons.

2 and a half man is really good!

And its about a man who is a womanizer, and his brother who is divorced, and his son lives with them...

It's a win.

:lol Judith I love her!

Deadwood: if Shakespeare said "cocksucker" alot.

Mr. Show: Two of the best comedic minds ever... period.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: I think I'm more a night man.

Arrested Development: Nothing but one liners.

I was just joking with that question. I've seen it a few times and I think it's so-so.

And the best show is still Seinfeld re-runs whenever they're on TV. That's by far the best show ever made.

Two and a Half Men is garbage, vacuous humor for dipshits.

Seinfeld is classic indeed. Curb Your Enthusiasm is amazing as well.

The Wire could be considered one of the best cop-law type shows to ever be produced, but that designation can be somewhat subjective.

If there is time to be wasted, you can watch the tried and true series like Entourage, Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, and Dexter...All of which are good watching.

One show that I've been recently introduced to, is Hung. No, it's not a show about William Hung, but rather an HBO show about a down-and-out former ballplayer turned high school coach/teacher who's gifted in one area; his member. So, in order to survive and maybe turn his life around, he befriends a woman and they've decided to run a male prostitute service for high-end clientele...

son, you need to be watching The Wire. Sopranos may come close, but every other show (even good shows) absolutely suck in comparison.

Close this thread, take no advice from anyone who tries to convince you there's a better show, you've never seen, than The Wire. Because that show doesn't exist.

Im not really into any shows anymore. I got into dexter for a little and that was good. I like 24 and did like prison break for awhile. The first few seasons of Nip/tuck were awesome but now its just ran out of material, lost was good the first few season. I heard the shield was a good show but never got into it.

The Shield>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Wire.

You want to watch the best cop show ever...watch the shield. The wire is slow and it isnt crap but it isnt nearly as great as the shield.

The Wire, Dexter, and Mad Men are all good suggestions. I'd add Six Feet Under and Homicide: Life on the Streets to the list, as well (though the latter is hard to find).

Also, as a Joss Whedon nerd, I'd be remiss in not mentioning Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly.

The Shield blew me away. The Wire doesnt have anyone on the caliber of Vic Mackey. I thought the wire was a good show but it has nothing on the shield. Then again that is my opinion.

It's basically a cop and gangster show, but forget that, it's about the disintegration of the American city and the futile nature of modern institutions.

Forgetting that it's as interesting and addictive a show as has ever existed, it's as important and as high quality a piece of art as anything in humanity's history.

Pretty much what Balli said. I would suggest the Shield over it. It moves at an amazing pace and the pilot will blow you away. It deals with cops and how they are shady in order to catch the bigger fish in LA. Deals with gangs, drug dealers etc etc. The way its shot makes it even more realistic.

Omar > Vic Mackey

The Shield is a fun show and far more action packed, but it's nowhere near as cerebral as The Wire. The Shield is a great cop show but The Wire transcends that genre and digs deeper.

This.

Not having seen the Shield, I'm not trying to be an asshole by ripping it in comparison, but I feel strongly about it; in addition to the above argument, I refuse to believe that FX holds a candle to HBO when it comes to the emotional impact of its shows. If used correctly, there's something to be said for the incredibly graphic freedom that HBO allows.

Having seen a cop show where the cops stay drunk, drop F bombs every two seconds, the gangsters drop lead into foreheads and the junkies tie off and drop spikes into veins, I'd have a hard time watching another show where that level of realism didn't exist.

Balli you talk so high on this show as does dickface. Fuck it. I am going to rewatch the first season again. I am finishing up 24 and I have been wanting to know what show I will go to next. The first season is about 14 episodes so it wont take me long to run through it. I watched the first season when it originally came out in 2002 but it has been 7 years since then. I am a huge shield fan that I fear watching another cop show again because of the expectations i will put on it.
