GREEN BAY, Wis. Sept. 14, 2004 — Police were stunned when a man they were chasing dumped a baby in a car seat out of his vehicle and onto a busy highway.

The dramatic scene was caught on a police cruiser's video.

Officers chased Dana Bettin, 23, from the Oshkosh area after he had taken his girlfriend's baby during a domestic dispute, the Brown County Sheriff's Department said.

With the child of the alleged victim in the car, Bettin rammed a Wisconsin State Patrol cruiser near ******on and continued north on U.S. 41 into Brown County, police said.

At one point, he slowed and threw the infant, strapped in a child restraint seat, onto the roadway and fled. Other officers stopped and retrieved the child, who was unharmed.

The chase hit speeds up to 100 mph and ended on U.S. 41 after Bettin had a minor collision with a vehicle and then crashed into an unoccupied Brown County squad car. He was pinned underneath the car he was driving after it rolled.

Brown County Sheriff's Lt. Keith Deneys said Bettin died Sunday around 4 p.m.

at first you think what a bastard, cuz i mean, he took the kid in the first place and then "threw" him outa the car....

but then i think, the guy knew he was running, knew the danger....and spared the kids life. poor bastard...at least the kids safe....

He did not throw the kid out, he stopped and set the car seat out the driver's door, then drove off. The wind blew the car seat over sideways though. I think he was trying to keep the baby safe, but he died for his stupidity, the punishment did not fit the crime, IMO.

I think he was trying to make the police have to stop and save the baby while he sped further off.

Spurm, he had 14 cars on him, he was not thinking that all 14 would stop to pick up the baby, he was trying to keep the baby from being involved in a car accident, which did happen.

He did not stop

The cop that was behind him said he was going 10-15 mph when he dumped the baby.

He also didn't drop the baby on the side of the road

He pulled to the side but drifted back into the middle of road before the baby was dropped

Jim, your quickly becoming the new MFD.

Just admit when your wrong, it's ok, everybody does it.

He stopped, then continued again at 10-15 mph before the baby was dumped. Watch the video on abc.com, they interview the cops and they say exactly what happened.

Jim denial response in 3..2..1...
