Really liked his offense in the summer league (bit reckless, but let's not forget how manu used to, and still does, play), needs to work on D, but that's something that pop could help fix.

I'm high on the idea, I don't care about the naysayers.

if anything does happen with Beck, he'll likely end up as another Desmon Farmer.

doubt this would happen but he'd be the first mexican spur?

Doesn't have the talent to stay in the league.

The mexican version of Desmond Farmer.

His offensive potential is definitely intriguing, but let's not put blinders on just yet. Things that Beck must improve on before being a contributor in this league:

-Defense
-Strength
-Ball Handling
-Passing
-B-ball IQ
-Entanglables/hustle
-shot selection ex. he shoots 1st-3rd quarter with no hesitiation, but when hes open in the 4th with time winding down, he passes up the wide open shot.

For him to be 15th man or better, hes going to have to be AT LEAST average in all of those categories. Right now he is well below average in those specific skills.

Wasn't Beck the one that LJ was laughing at because to go left, he dribbled right-handed in a circle? Unless you're Clyde Drexler, you can't get by in this league with only a right hand.

If he works on his handles and dribbling I'm all for it but at present nah, a decent defender would crush him unless he atleast learns to get open off the ball. Plus we need big man security

I've seen enough of him to know he doesn't have the guts to be an NBA player.

The guy is clueless and gutless. SG in a PG body won't cut it my man. Not in the NBA. This guy will end up with the Toros and will only be an afterthought by the end of the season.

Maybe he won't make it in the NBA, but gutless? Takes a lot of guts to do what he did against the number 1 teams last year.

Beck on the toros? Fine. Beck on the Spurs. Not a chance. He plays the same position as Hairston and Williams, only not nearly as good as those two.

If Beck can't maintain his own dribble in Summer League, he has no shot at making it on the Spurs.

Only saw him during summer league. Seemed to be a bit turnover-prone and was a terrible ball-handler.

I agree with Coyotes_Geek. He would be a good candidate for Austin this year, but he's not ready for prime time. He needs quite a bit more seasoning.

Beck has a lot to add to his game in order to make it in the NBA and he's already 27. I think Europe is his peak.

I dont really like beck's defense, he gave a wide open layup to the other M.Williams to win that game.

I like JAck, he plays nice defense and is a pure shooter. I know that he played poorly in summer league, but the spurs did not run any plays for him and he had to take contested 3s. If he plays along side duncan he's going to have many open 3s.

Project? Veteran in case of injures? Open so we can sign someone mid season? Gist? I could go on forever.

Given D-legaue rules, having Beck in Austin without him taking a roster spot with Spurs is nearly impossible.

I'm quite sure Spurs can do way better than Beck if they want to fill their roster. Last year, Spurs picked Desmon Farmer over Hairston. It was a mistake even if there were no consequences because Spurs have kept Hairston at the end. Keeping Beck over a player like McClinton would likely be a similar mistake and there could have consequences this time.

Romel Beck sighting. He and his mad handles are headed to Houston.

Rockets Sign Romel Beck

Sep 30, 2009 12:17 PM EST

The Rockets reached agreement with Romel Beck, a 6-8 guard/forward who has starred with the Mexican National team.

Beck played at UNLV and professionally in Italy before a stint in the Mexican League. He spent one season in the NBA Development League and played with the San Antonio Spurs summer league team.

The Rockets began camp short-handed after the team chose not to sign Rashad McCants because of an abdominal injury. Shane Battier left Tuesday’s evening practice with a hamstring pull, though the injury is not considered serious.

No kidding. That's a pretty good sign that McCants might want to start thinking about his next career.

I heard somewhere that he was exiled from Mexico's last few games due to poor attitude and me first playing. I could be mistaking him for someone else.

Wasn't he also the one that started a huge brawl during a recent game?

Yeah, I read the same thing too.

Here's the Mexico Uruguay brawl with Romel Beck as the prime instigator:

His attitude was detrimental to the team and the reason why he was expelled from the national team... that said, he wasn't solely responsible for that brawl... the Uruguayans were provoking him with racial slurs.

You mean a Latino (Hispanic or whatever you prefer) was insulting another one with racial slurs? Oh wait, isn't Uruguay the country that brags about how they killed almost all of their Native Americans and ethnically they are European?
