View Full Version : T.J. Houshmandzadeh angry at Madden '10

Until EA Sports releases "Sports Blogger Pie Eating Contest '10," I'm never going to know what it's like to be in a video game. I'm never going to know what it feels like to pop a disc in the ol' XBox 360, turn it on and see what rating I've been assigned.
I'd imagine that most guys think they should be rated above where they are, because that's just human nature, and professional football is a profession that lends itself easily to a large ego. Everyone wants a high ranking. Everyone lacks perspective when judging their own abilities.
That said, I think T.J. Houshmandzadeh(notes) is being particularly unreasonable here. The man's rated a 91, and he's going slightly bananas over it. He said on the Colin Cowherd show today that he's boycotting Madden '10 until they show proper respect for his abilities.
"I understand I averaged 10 yards a catch, but it's the offense, not me. I'm not playing Madden no more until they get my rating right. ... I used to be the best in the world at Madden. I'm going to miss not playing it, but until they do me right, I'm not playing it any more."
And he's a 91! What did he want to be, a 114? Does he insist that little polygonal T.J. Houshmandzadeh be bathed in a warming, angelic glow of pure white light at all times? It's a 91, man. I hope I'm not shattering any illusions when I suggest that T.J. Houshmandzadeh should be pretty happy with a 91.
As for EA Sports, I don't know how they're going to cope. A player who likely got the game for free anyway now refuses to play. I hope the company is able to rebound from the setback.

Ego much? There are gamers out there that would destroy TJ at Madden.

Of course, why would you want to play a bad sports game? Madden sucks.

He's got a point. Isn't Michael Crabtree, a rookie, rated 94 even though he's played zero snaps in the NFL?

Madden and all other ea sports games are horribly bad. Unrealistic hunks of plastic with cheating opponent AI, supreme suckitude AI for your team, horrible UI and online play, disgusting shortcuts clearly taken at every corner, and the games just aren't realistic at all despite today's top notch graphics. I'd honestly rather stub my own toe over and over against a brick wall than ever play an EA sports game again.

Yeah. Comparing Madden 09's graphics to NBA 2k9 is just laughable. 2k9 looks close to real, Madden looks slightly better than a cartoon. The collision detection in 2k9 isn't spot on, but it's almost non-existent in Madden.

In reality, it's an arcade game masquerading as a sim. But it's worse than that. Arcade games are based on skill and reaction time to determine a winner, while sims favor in-depth knowledge, reading defenses, recognizing tendencies, and strategy. Madden relies on cheap go to plays and taking advantage of flaws in the programming to enable players to win 95% of the matches.

its called adjustments

wanna stop roll-out QBs? put DEs in hook/curl-to-flat zones and OLBs in QB contain

wanna stop moss on deep balls? get pressure, call cover 4, or man him up with a safety over the top. or better yet, use that to your advantage, let him get to the redzone, then call FAG defenses with the DTs in contain/spy, because most people that do the deep crap are one trick ponies who dont know how to deal with a shitstorm of coverage, and its even harder since you cant roll out because Brady is slow.

you moron madden haters act as if you don't have to make adjustments in the NFL, as if all these things are just instantly shut down by playing your normal base defense. doesnt work that way. i guarantee that anything that you could bring up in madden that an opponent does to you, i have a counter for, as well as a counter to their counter.

The last Madden I really enjoyed was 2004. Vick was unstoppable in that game :lol

I haven't played Madden in two years or so though. Have they fixed the retarded linemen yet? I got so pissed everytime a guard and a tackle would double up on a guy, and a linebacker would blow through untouched.

Plus, who hasn't had a Madden game where they were up 17, only to lose when your QB suddenly throws two passes in a row for ints on consecutive drives, and then you cough up the football on the return?

Madden sucks. There's really not a lot you can say to counter this. It's shit.

Have they fixed the retarded linemen yet?

Actually, they realized they didn't have the programming brains to make linemen do a simple thing like make a lead block, so one of the newer "features" of Madden is that on running plays, you can take control of the lead blocker and block someone, then switch back to the running back. It's a hilariously shallow method of getting around actually making the blocking scheme better.

Probably because you suck at it. Plain and simple.

And this proves that you don't know what the hell you are doing when playing Madden.

If you have crappier OL, then they will give you crappier blocking. If you have a great OL, they will give you great blocking. At the same time, as the runner, you have to follow your blocks, as you do in the NFL. If you are too busy trying to turbo past everyone as soon as you get the ball, you won't be very good at running the ball. Even if you have a crappy line, if you follow your blocks well and run patiently, you can be effective. I play with the freaking Raiders who have one of the worst lines ever, yet can still easily run for a 100 yards any given game with McFadden, Fargas, or Bush, without doing anything special other than following my blocks. I've never even had to use the lead blocker control to be more effective either. I've used it once or twice because I noticed something that my opponent wasnt doing right and a way I could get an extra blocker into the play and break off a massive gain. It's not there for basic running. It's there for advanced players who see things that they can exploit further.

That's why you don't play against the computer. Play against humans.

And sometimes it's just bad fortune. Not much you can do about it. It happens in the NFL too. At least you don't ever have to worry about getting screwed like the Chargers did against the Broncos this year, lol.

Dude, if insulting my gaming skill makes you feel superior, go for it. Clearly you've watched me before and know what you're talking about.

And this proves that you don't know what the hell you are doing when playing Madden.

You're right. There are offensive linemen in the NFL that will double team a DT while there is a linebacker directly in front of them. That happens all the time. Because, hell it's only the NFL, the players there clearly don't know how to run basic blocking schemes, right?

If you have a great OL, they will give you great blocking. At the same time, as the runner, you have to follow your blocks, as you do in the NFL.

Wow, you mean I have to follow my blocks!? Oh thank you, veritable fount of football knowledge! I didn't know this before!

If you are too busy trying to turbo past everyone as soon as you get the ball, you won't be very good at running the ball.

Awesome, thanks for proving my point. You are really going to talk about how realistic this football game is when this SIM football game has a turbo button. :lmao

I play with the freaking Raiders who have one of the worst lines ever, yet can still easily run for a 100 yards any given game with McFadden, Fargas, or Bush, without doing anything special other than following my blocks.

Wait, I thought crappy lines = crappy blocking? So now you're saying that blocking doesn't matter? Again. Madden != sim. Ever. At all.

:lmao

Don't you get it? I WANT Madden to be a fantastic experience. I WANT Madden to actually be worth paying $50 or $60 bucks so I can have a realistic football experience at home.

Right now, it just isn't there. It's not even close. But if it makes you feel better about your gaming abilities to call others down because they elect not to play it, more power to you. :toast

Dude, if insulting my gaming skill makes you feel superior, go for it. Clearly you've watched me before and know what you're talking about.

No, its because the only people that have such a problem with Madden, are either people that expect too much from it, or that suck at it. Perhaps you fit both categories.

You're right. There are offensive linemen in the NFL that will double team a DT while there is a linebacker directly in front of them. That happens all the time. Because, hell it's only the NFL, the players there clearly don't know how to run basic blocking schemes, right?

Never happens to me in Madden. I'm not sure what you are doing to have that problem, but it's definitely never been an issue for me.

Wait, I thought crappy lines = crappy blocking? So now you're saying that blocking doesn't matter? Again. Madden != sim. Ever. At all.

:lmao

You are missing the point, dumbass. Even with a poor line, you can find ways to run effectively. Will it mean you can be as good of a running team as say, the Giants or Vikings? No. But good playcalling, and knowing how to run in the game, can still lead to ground success.

Don't you get it? I WANT Madden to be a fantastic experience. I WANT Madden to actually be worth paying $50 or $60 bucks so I can have a realistic football experience at home.

Then why don't you cry like a little bitch about how these other games that are made to be more "real" aren't real enough? Why don't you bitch about how Halo is unrealistic because there is no scientific proof of aliens, and the fact that you can shoot your friends and they just say "come on dude!" instead of telling you to get the fuck away from them? Why don't you cry that in Ninja Gaiden, when you cut someone's head off, that blood spews 15 feet into the air like a fucking geyser for 10 seconds?

Get the fuck out of here. If you are playing VIDEO GAMES, and you are expecting them to be real, you're a fucking moron.

Right now, it just isn't there. It's not even close. But if it makes you feel better about your gaming abilities to call others down because they elect not to play it, more power to you. :toast

I'm not calling you down because of your gaming abilities. It's because you are trashing a game you never learned how to play. It's like if some 400 lb fatass started trashing the game of basketball because he can't dunk like Lebron James.

Wow, you mean I have to follow my blocks!? Oh thank you, veritable fount of football knowledge! I didn't know this before!

Awesome, thanks for proving my point. You are really going to talk about how realistic this football game is when this SIM football game has a turbo button. :lmao

Good ones. You got me there. :tu

Now let's see what kinds of incredibly witty comebacks you come up with now, because we all know that saying "OMG WTF THERE IS A TURBO BUTTON :wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:wow:w ow" was pretty fucking ingenious.

i hear they have gotten even better about it in 10. it was freaking horrible in 08. it was still useable but not as easy in 09. but i hear this year its been vastly improved though. then again, you will still always have the morons who have nothing better to do than find ways to manipulate the AI of the game to do BS crap like rocket catching.

yeah...pretty gay. I hate that. I could do it too and rack up the score, but I prefer to play it like a regular game. I will say I've had a lot of people try it on me in NCAA 2010 and not one of them has been successful even once, so they're probably making it harder.

My mic is rigged...my dog chewed up all 3 that I've had..lol...but I was able to kind of rig the wires together on one..probably not exactly safe, but I hardly ever use it anyway. I only use it when I'm on my online dynasty, since I'm the commissioner.
