:cry:cry:cry:cry

My 15 yr old female calico had surgery a few weeks ago to have an ear polyp removed. It was sent to the lab, and it was confirmed last night that she has feline cancer. I'm devastated, cried a bunch last night. Can she be treated? The vet says yes, but that will include radiation, etc....and alot of $$$. I know what decision has to be made.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v371/ladyspur/lolcats.jpg

She's my child, since we don't have any of our own. The vet says to look for weight loss first, that's the beginning of the end.

I decided that instead of burying her, she'll be cremated, that way she will always be with us. :)

If there is anything good to come out of this, it's the fact that we found a stray, Astro. I believe he was sent to us to help with the grieving process.

Sorry about that. It's hard to lose a pet. Keep us posted.

at 15 and with all the expenses you may have to make some tough choices. your cat has had a long life and not sure how many more years would be ahead. sorry to hear about your cat though. pets can be the greatest of companions.

It seems like it's a bad season for feline pets.

I'm really sorry, Panda. :(

Damn...not a good month for cats.

I'm really sorry, PS. I know how much she means to you.

My advice: try to take your mind off it with some hot panda-on-panda action. [smile]

What, exactly, do you gain from this?

That's a tough break, PS. Sorry to hear. Hard as it may be, you should consider euthanasia, if need be, and spare your feline some pain. Take solace in the fact that you've provided her with a good life.

My parents had siamese cats that lived to be 17 and 16, respectively. They were brother and sister. When Mitzy (the female) died, it seemed to hit Fritzy (the male) pretty hard. He stopped eating, he hid from everyone in the family, he just wasn't the same cat. My mom took him to the vet when he started losing weight after a couple months and the vet told us he was dying. What the illness was, I don't remember. My mom made the choice to have him put to sleep. It was a hard choice but even as a kid, I understood.

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your cat. It's a tough thing to deal with.

Thanks for the warm sentiments, it means alot to me. :) I'm going to make her last days the most comfortable they can be. I will feed her steaks and lobster and her favorite - chicken. (Hopefully she will eat it)

I've already accepted the fact that she's going to kitty heaven., but preparing for it is the hard part. I found a place in Converse that cremates pets.

Sorry for your loss. We are going through similar trauma in my family...my daughters barrel horse has terminal cancer and has entered the weight loss phase...she is still eating and not in apparent pain yet but it is literally a matter of days till I am going to have to put her down. It really sucks.

I'm sorry. You know my cat died on Monday, so I'm right there with you. I'm glad my baby passed in his sleep so I didn't have to decide, but it was hard and awful and it sucks so much. Even when you know they had good long lives, and know their passing now was better than before they were in pain or unhappy, it hurts because we love them and they were our companions.

Sorry, hon.

My sincerest condolences.

I lost my cat Dexter a couple of years ago and my wife lost her cat Bevo a year later. It was tough losing both of them but losing Dexter was especially hard. He was deaf and had the most incredible personality. I still think about him today.

I managed to fill the void with a puppy named Memphis who is now 65lbs but never really stopped being a baby. We also recently got a new cat, Duncan, as my wife has been wanting one since she lost hers. They really love each other and bring us a lot of joy.

Had to put down our 19 year old Tortoise shell last Thursday.

Had the kids say goodbye to her before they went to bed.

Drove at midnight 90 miles to an all night emergency clinic so she wouldn't have to deal with all the other animals; we were the only ones there.

It was tough - kids woke up sad; but - 19 years.

I've lost a parent, most of my grandparents, uncles, etc...

Losing pets doesn't have the effect it used to; still sucks.

Sorry to that 101. Prince was 18. You know they had long lives, but it almost makes it harder, because they've been with you for so long. I still have trouble believing he's not just over in another room and won't be jumping up onto the bed to curl up with me any second.

:) Thank you for the condolences. I'm doing much better today, compared to last night. It is hard losing a family member, that's exactly what she was.

Astro (kitten) hasn't left my side today, he knows something is wrong. He's been looking for her too. :(

Poor Astro.

Our cat Bingley looks for our dog, Jackson, when we take the dog to get groomed.
It is amazing the way animals befriend each other.

Aww. It's so sad when the other animals realize there is something missing in the house too. When I lost my cat in January the dogs were even amiss for a few days and they rarely saw her (she hung out upstairs). It took me about three months to find another kitty. It's truly something special when you find "the one" to replace the one you've lost. My "replacement" never leaves my side.

I'm so sorry for your loss Panda. My calico is turning 19 this coming March and it's just a matter of time before I'll be in your position. It's tough but it's best that they don't suffer. Good luck with your grieving, I'm sure having Astro there will make it a little bit easier as you go along. :)

Real sorry about your cat :(

I recently lost mine. Mine was 17 and she wasn't doing too good and she ran away from me even though she had been around my house for every day since I was 7. Everyday I come home hoping to see her on my porch meowing for a can of food and she isn't there anymore. Last I saw her was across the street at our neighbors going towards the forest near our neighborhood. Never seen her walk that way before. I think she intended to go off and die. Never found her.

It's hard losing them.
