View Full Version : Rasho to Raptors- done deal

Rasho and Hedo together again. :)

Rasho Nesterovic is coming back to his adopted hometown.

The veteran centre, who spent two seasons with the Raptors before being traded to Indiana a year ago, has agreed in principle to a one-year deal worth about $1.9 million (all figures US), the so-called biannual exception to the NBA’s salary cap.

The move comes as little surprise since president and general manager Bryan Colangelo has long held that the 33-year-old 7-footer is exactly the kind of solid veteran the team covets in a second unit role.

The deal also works financially for the Raptors, who retain any financial flexibility they will have at the end of next season.

Nesterovic, who maintained a home in Toronto despite playing in Indiana last year, averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds a game with the Pacers, starting 19 of the 70 games he appeared in last season.

Coveted by a handful of European teams, Nesterovic made it no secret he wanted to return to the Raptors. He said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that he never wanted to leave but that he understood the business aspects of the NBA that necessitated his inclusion in the trade for Jermaine O’Neal.

His role in Toronto is clear: He will be the backup centre behind Andrea Bargnani and now with he, Bargnani, Chris Bosh, Reggie Evans and Patrick O’Bryant, the Raptors are pretty well set in the front court.

Colangelo has one roster spot left to fill and negotiations continue with former Raptor Carlos Delfino.

That's one more serviceable center with decent defense the Suns should have signed. The list is shrinking.

Yup, even Ben in dusk is more productive than Rasho and Ben's defense is just what it takes to win playoffs and also what the Suns urgently need, and the Suns also had got Pavlovic together with Ben for losing Shaq.

Nice move, Raptors are starting to shape up..a lock for the playoffs IMO, I'll probably go to see a few games in Toronto this year..

If Bargs builds on the success from last year, the Raps will have a nice little team.

The Raptors should be a pretty good team this upcoming season...Bosh, Hedo, Calderon, Jack, Bargnani, Rasho...should be a playoff team in the East...a 6, 7, or 8 seed.

Good pick up

They didnt have a real center and they somewhat have adressed a need.

And I agree with DPG21920, with AP gone, they need a SG.

I wonder what the Lakers will do if Odom can't be re-signed? The FA list is shrinking. Warrick just opened up, but what can the Lakers offer him?

On a side note I still expect the Lakers to re-sign Odom.

Toronto needs a SG badly.

Well they drafted an explosive athlete in Derozen and acquired Antoine Wright in the Marion trade.

The Raptors are no longer an NBA team. They've been transformed into the freakin United Nations of Canada. Don't they like Americans in Toronto?

Calderon/Derozan/Hedo/Bargs/Bosh

Bench: Jack/Wright/George/Evans/Rasho.

The bench may not be sexy but it is quite solid.

Antoine Wright is quite possibly the worst basketball player of all time.

Not a great move, but a solid depth move for the price. Toronto is not going to be great or anything, but if Bosh/Hedo/Bargs/Calderon can stay healthy, they might be able to squeeze into the playoffs.

I do not see them making any noise, but pretty good off season for them overall.

Nice choice by Rasho.

He likes the city/team, the money is fine and after the Hedo trade, Raptors should be quite good and Rasho will get some playing time.
