With the 2009-2010 season still months away, how will Duncan react on the floor with all the talent the Spurs have added?
This is something to really think about.
Duncan has been the foundation and the Spurs backbone the past decade. Whenever he is efficient and aggressive on the offensive end, Spurs are a very hard team to beat.
At the same time, we all know Duncan doesn't mind differing to teammates (in reference of touches), kind of like Robinson during his last few years with the Spurs.
So what's going to happen this year when Spurs are going to have perhaps the most talent Duncan has ever seen around him?
Will he be a more perimeter offensive oriented big man from pick and roll situations with Parker, Ginobili, Jefferson, Hill?
If so, probably in the regular season. Like last year when he attempted more mid-range jumpers than any other year during his illustrious career.
At the same time, I hope its understood that Duncan still needs touches on the block, so his post game stays somewhat in tune and prepared for whenever the battles in April- June are ensuing.
If Spurs really want to play in June, Duncan needs to dominate inside ( particularly in April-May- June).
All in all, I hope Timmy understands the importance of him being aggressive on the offensive end even with the additions we made this off-season. We go as Tim goes. If he becomes passive from the get go, that will subsequently put a fairly small yet relatively important dent in his overall offensive game as the season moves along. Hence Tim was having his best year in the past five years last year because he was aggressive from the get go.
This year he won't need to be as aggressive from the get go, how will that effect the Spurs?
When it's all said and done, Spurs will need 4-down to be their most efficient play in order to win number 5 :lobt2:.
