Dwight Howard For Sure

Even though Yao owns Dwight one on one I'd still rather have Howard on my team.

It's true story Yao used to play some decent games face to face against Howard, but another truth is always ignored that Yao didn't carry so much pressure as Howard did on both ends of the floor. D Howard has been the No.1 guy on the Magic team since dude got drafted in 04, reasonably Howard always draws the highest focus from his opponents. Yao was also a productive guy in offense but his opponents always have to pay more attention to T-Mac, who was actually the No.1 on the Rockets team. Besides, Howard would like to spend mass energy on defense while Yao never did.

Actually he's right, Yao owns the H2H against Howard but this case is similar to the CP3 - D-Will thing where Williams owns the personal matchup but Paul is the better player, at least IMO.

In today's smaller, faster NBA, Howard matches up better against more teams.

And what you are saying is long gone. Remember Tmac has been out long enough and starting '06, yao is the NO.1 option of Houston

Yao is actually the best offensive (and most skilled) center on the NBA right now but he's to damn slow.

DAF86

I've always said that I would not make the trade of Howard for Duncan for one major reason, his actual skills are not too far along. Ask Yao to put up a hook shot or a runner in the lane and he will likely make it more often than Howard. Yao can also hit a mid range jumper, Howard had problems with hitting from outside 7 feet.

Not to mention that Yao shoots 80/90% from the FT line, while Howard... well sucks there.

DAF86
07-28-2009, 09:52 AM
Howard is getting better-ish.

I remember one game where Shaq went 12 for 12 (or something like that) from the FT line and everybody thought that he was finally getting his FT stroke toghether but he end up beign the same crappy FT shooter he always was.

I don't think DWill owned CP3 everytime like Yao has done to D12. D12 is Yao's biitch.

Let's pretend Yao is healthy for next season and remains that way, who is better?

Lets pretend that tomorrow I wake up 7'2" with the athleticism of Dwight Howard, ball handling and passing ability of Magic Johnson, post game of Hakeem Olajuwon, rebounding ability of Dennis Rodman, jump shot of Steve Nash, basketball IQ of Tim Duncan, and killer instinct of Michael Jordan.

Would I be the best basketball player ever?

at first i thought easily D-12, but then i looked closer and thought otherwise.

I think people fall in love with Howard's athleticism and since it is unmatched by other centers, they automatically think he is the best.

However, Yao is unguardable. Whenever we play Houston, my eyes are always on Yao because he has the ability to kill us. D-12 never does shit when we play them. He is a hassle to deal with because of his strength and athleticism, but he was taken away in 4th qtrs of many big games last season. That would never happen to Yao.

he won a serie last year with no allstar and Artest as 2nd option. Dwight can't do that.

That Rockets team without Artest and Howard instead of Yao may have won the championship.

Hard to compare, they are polar opposites. I think they both compliment thier respective teams well, which would split the vote towards which one would fit the particular voters team the best.

Yao... he at least has some post moves. Maybe DHo a year from now, depending on what he does in the offseason.

R4R

I think they both contribute to same amount of points and rebounds to their respective teams. However, in the 4th quarter Yao > Howard by a mile. Hell, Howard isn't even option #1 during the final minutes.....plus, he can't shoot free throws if his life depended on it. Yao is extremely dangerous late-game. A foul on Yao means 2 automatic points. The only reason this isn't so advantageous to the Rockets is because referees overlook the dirty play by players defending Yao.

I never really liked Dwight, especially once he started bitching about getting more touches. Yao is probably the nicest player oncourt in the NBA. Dude is unselfish and unbelievably strong from his legs down. His turnaround jumpshop is a killer. He's so fucking slow, and if you watch replays every single defender knows what he's going to do....they just can't stop him. If Yao had better teamates who passed to him more he'd be averaging MVP numbers (Shane Battier is the only guy I see consistently passing to Yao, and the only one who can give him a decent lob).

Dwight has no postgame and relies on the 3-point threat from outside to create oppurtunities to score off putbacks. Yao is the exact opposite...his presence creates holes in 3-point land.

This is with Yao being healthy of course.

Come on. Yao is unarguably the best center in NBA right now when healthy.

Houston won 3 games from Lakers without TM and DM. How many games did Magics won?

If a healthy Yao exchange with Howard in the finals, Magics can probably won the championship.

Howard.

The question was to pick the best right now. Yao has one foot.

Howard is 23. I've criticized his lack of moves in the post, but his rebounding and defense is pretty damn good. He was a way higher veiling than Yao if he develops some go-to post moves.

Games played by Yao in past 3 seasons prior to last:

2005-06: 57
2006-07: 48
2007-08: 55

He plays 77 games + playoffs this year and what happened? I like the guy, but no way you're picking him over a healthy, athletic 23 year old monster.

That's stupid. Do you honestly think the OP would want to compare an Injured player vs. a Healthy player?

Who's better now: T-mac or Matt Carrol.:nope

Doesn't matter. Right now, Dwight Howard is better. The difference between D12 and Yao isn't big in the first place, so why would I give the nod to a player that may never play again?
