I don't think anyone has any idea what we are getting in Haislip.

I dunno, I'm guessing Pop and RC have some idea...

I hope Pop and RC know. Despite his shortcomings Bonner still shots the 3 better than any BIG besides Sheed and Dirk. In the right system that is a weapon--but not a starting center. Haislip's scouting report was that he had improved his offensive game from just being a dunking machine, adequate defender, poor rebounder and still very athletic. Seems like his main competition for minutes will be with Ian not Bonner.

Actually Bonner shoots the 3 better than Both Dirk and Rasheed, he led the NBA in 3pt % for awhile. He was a top 10 3pt shooter last year :flag:

:rolleyes

Umm yeah, Bonner shoots nothing but uncontested 3's. Give Dirk those same wide open shots and see how high is percentage goes

A lot better idea than what we would be getting with Bender...

My point was that I don't see Haislip as a replacement for Bonner. I see him as a more athletic BiG who can replace Fab and Kurt. Get out on the break and finish at the rim. I think that the FO game plan is to become more offensive minded in the early season and have a Spurs' defense in place by playoff time. Everyone we have added is suited to take pressure off the BIG 3 in the areas of minutes played, scoring, rebounding and defense. Sounds like a plan to me! Asking Tim, Tony and Manu to do all the heavy lifting during the season doesn't work in June. The team with the best 10 man rotation will be in the driver's seat in the future.

Can someone provide more information on Haislip. All i know is he was a former lotter pick who basically struggled at the NBA level, then went over seas for a few years where he was decent. Im not even sure how accurate the information is either. Seems some people think he is going to break into the rotation.

Even if Haislip signed his contract in July, Spurs should have made him an offer somewhere in June because this is when the FA market really start in Europe.

Back in June, Spurs were ready to do a trade for RJ or Carter. They knew that they would need big men. After that, Blair surprisingly fell to the 37th pick and Spurs got one of their top FA target with McDyess. The result is that Haislip is now quite stuck in a logjam and his role will be way smaller than expected.

I think Bender gets a bad rap for being a bust. He came into the league straight out of high school and started experiencing serious knee problems very early in his career. He struggled and fought against it for his final few years until he had to retire. Reports at the time said both knees were experiencing serious bone-on-bone friction and the doctors told him that continuing just wasn't possible. But the potential was always intriguing... a 7 footer who handle the ball, score in multiple ways, and block shots. Jermaine O'Neal said that when Bender's knees weren't hurting him, he was sometimes the best player at Pacer practices and that was a damn good team... a team that might have won a championship if not for the Detroit brawl fiasco.
