Sources: Raptors nab Belinelli (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-belinelli072909&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
By Adrian Wojnarowski

After failing to meet the initial expectations that surrounded his arrival as a first-round pick two years ago, the Golden State Warriors have traded guard Marco Belinelli to the Toronto Raptors, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

The Raptors will send Devean George to the Warriors.

Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo and his assistant GM, Maurizio Gherardini, have long been admirers of Belinelli and tried to draft him in 2007. The Warriors selected the Italian guard with the 18th pick of the draft, and a sensational debut in that year’s summer league led everyone, including Golden State coach Don Nelson, to believe Belinelli had a promising future in the free-flowing Warriors offense. Yet, he played little as a rookie, and although Belinelli averaged over 20 minutes and nearly nine points a game last season, the Warriors clearly lost some faith in his future.

Belinelli joins a Toronto organization that is fascinated with the European player. He’ll join fellow Italian Andrea Bargnani (Italy), guard Jose Calderon (Spain) and Hedo Turkoglu (Turkey), among others, with Toronto.

George, 31, arrived in Toronto this summer as part of the Shawn Marion sign-and-trade with Dallas. He averaged 3.4 points a game for the Mavericks a year ago. George played seven seasons with the Lakers, before joining Dallas in 2006.

Dick Breath's savvy veteranness and crafty experience will help the Warriors get the top seed in the West. You're talking about a guy that's a proven three-time champion.

Nice trade. Gets them a 3 point shooter for DB.

Very minor trade to get a shaky/niche player at best. It does not hurt to pick up someone in a position of need that can at least shoot the 3 ball very well. They will miss DB, but this trade was a smart one, even if it is another softy.

Hubie Brown says the Warriors take this one in a landslide. In years, we'll look back on this trade and it will make the Gasol-Brown bullshit look like nothing. Raptors got straight fleeced.

Devean George proved his mettle during the Shaq/Kobe/George Era. The Lakers "Big Three" steamrolled the league en route to a mini dynasty.

Good trade for Toronto. SG is their most pressing need, and George wouldn't get much playing time behind Turkoglu anyway.

WOW, what a great trade for Toronto... Can't believe they pulled this off, i bet Mavs fans wish they could have done the same while they had George. The guy is over the hill and is terrible. Bellinelli will shine in toronto with Euro Raptors. Don Nelson is so bad at developing young talent or giving them a chance. Look at Randolph, we knew he'd do what he did in summer league all year if he had only been given the chance... Toronto making quite a push to keep Bosh, how does he leave?

You joking right?

Devon George is a clutch 3 point shooter and a damn good defender. Him being 6'8 allows him to guard numerous players just like Posey. Again he is a CLUTCH shooter as well. James Posey part 2.

How can George be traded so soon? He was part of the Marion trade...don't you have to wait like 3 months? :elephant

That's for a free agent signing or if you're being traded back to the team you were with originally.

When the team finally steps onto the court and pretty much chokes the entire season away like most Toronto sports franchises (see: Blue Jays)

fantastic trade for the Raptors. get him for nothing. Belinelli will flourish in the Parker role.
question: what are the Raptors going to do with their 7 or 8 guards? (and Hedo is a lot playing like a guard also). at least one more trade coming to balance the roster?

toronto got shafted :bang:bang:bang

"We're looking forward to adding a veteran with Devean's experience to our squad," said Warriors general manager Larry Riley. "He is obviously a proven winner and has been on several very successful teams during his career, which is something we feel is important when you look at the youth on our roster. He is a versatile player and someone who we feel can contribute on and off the court."

Trust me bro, I watched George for years. You don't want him. He wouldn't do for the Celtics what Posey did. He sucks. Laker fans called him Gump. Mav fans call him dick breath. Do the math.

furthermore, a player cannot be packed with other players for a trade during the first month after he got traded, though he can be traded individually at any time. Anyway it's a big regret to lose DB in the Marion trade, that's why I haven't ever given any applause to this trade even though it's not a bad one for Donnie.

I remember Vanessa Williams in that Proactiv commercial (she was still with Rick Fox )

She said that Fox's then teammates were using Proactiv too.

For some reason, the only then Laker who came to mind was Devean George
