Well than they'd be idiots because Hurd is the one that is actually impressing everybody at camp. If all four of our receivers (RW, Hurd, Austin, Crayton) can stay healthy i think we will be fine with our other weapons. but they will likely find their way on the DL thats why i want a Toomer or Matt Jones

Hurd will have a 1400 yard season and be 2nd only to Austin in receiving yards. Meanwhile lil Romeo will break Dan Marino's all time passing yards record.

Austin looked quite promising last year before he got hurt. Is he going to be an all-pro this season? Probably not, but according to the most recent evidence he was far from being terrible. It doesn't seem like too high an expectation to think he can contribute.

Your guess is wrong, DoK...I've been going to camp, and while Austin has been decent at best, Hurd has been the guy who's been the brightest. Roy Williams has sucked horribly, even getting hit so hard today by Scandrick that his helmet went flying..it was sad. Not sure where everyone got that I'm a Cowboys homer. I'm critical as hell of this team. Only time I stand up for them is if someone says they suck..or they're the worst team in the league..because even THEY know they're full of shit. What I don't fucking understand is everybody is bashing our receivers...our game this year is going to be running the ball...and NOBODY has a 3 RB tandem like we do this year...that you can bank on.

Obstructed_View

The Cowboys also have two TEs that are pretty good. One way or another, the lower Roy Williams ranks the better they're gonna be.

Horry For 3!

But like I pointed out in another thread, you don't have a coordinator that will be run first. Sure he says the right things but has yet proved he can make the proper adjustments from game to game or even from season to season. He said that shit about the running game last year. And don't give me that T.O. bullshit. A real coach wouldn't give two shits about what he says.

Yes...Garrett has been about pass first. But at the same time, he's been working on his playbook. You can see it at camp. Of course he has yet proved he can make the adjustments...he hasn't had a game yet. Last year, their concept was throwing the ball, and Tony Romo. This year, it has become running the ball. I'm just going by what Garrett and Phillips are saying. We'll have to see if it's true.

Nice talking out of your ass there son. None of my posts can you even suggest that I'm a big time homer to think that Austin would lead the NFL in any category. Do some research before you make idiotic posts. I think Austin will have a better season, but that's because he's going to be more involved in the offense. He'll have a career year for sure, but that's not good enough to rank up high on the list of receivers. Like everyone else has said, Hurd has been the most impressive in camp so far.

Dr. Gonzo
08-04-2009, 12:39 PM
14 catches would be a career year for Austin. That's not saying a damn thing.

:rolleyes Good god. Like I've said before. That's what happens when
1. you're injured
2. you're a #3 receiver
3. you're #1 receiver wants the ball every damn play

He also averaged over 21 yards per reception last year, as well as 3 touchdowns...the guy is fast as hell, and has great hands. Not saying he's going to be great next year, but I can guarantee you that unless he's injured, he'll have more than 14 catches this year.

He might. It didn't look like it though last season when he was able to stay on the field. But its not like he was a first round pick. If an undrafted guy out of Monmouth can contribute 300-500 yards I'll be happy with it.

+10000000

But I'd like to see more than 300-500 yards, to be honest. He got almost 300 last year on 13 catches. We'll have to see...I've been going to camp, and I actually have a pretty good feeling about him. Hurd is having a great camp as well, and our defense has REALLY been good..

No shit, but they've both sucked so bad we can combine them under one Houston label and the point still holds true.
This is actually a myth created by most Dallas fans. The Oilers went to several AFC championship games only to be denied by the Steel Curtain Steelers. They also won back to back AFL Championships in the 60's. With the exception of having no NFL titles, the Oilers actually have a pretty good history.

Went to several AFC championship games. Wonderful.

They also never won any of them and were the franchise with the biggest choke job in playoff football history. How many NFC title games were the cowboys in? Super bowls? Championships? Not even close. Houston professional football has been decent at times but never great

there, now lets see some consistancy out of you. You still dropped another TD pass and could of had another one if you knew ho to properly catch a ball over your shoulder. That would of been 4 TD passes for you.

Thats the one thing about Austin, consistancy.

If I remember correctly, he was a pretty big part of our frontcourt in the 2005 season...that was a good season, if I remember correctly. Not a star player, but a good part of it. And let's be real..we knew Nazr wasn't going to be a star..he didn't have that ability..Miles does...he's got the speed, and the hands. I truly don't think it's about Garrett, but I do think the Cowboys could easily fuck this up...but it would be because of Phillips...not Garrett...I wish they'd just blow the coaching system up...give Garrett the HC job for the rest of the year, and bring in a legit coach next year.

Guess you werent around for the advent of Carolina and Jacksonville franchises.

Let me give you a history lesson boy, the panthers finished 7-9 in their first year of existance, then they went on to the NFC title game the following year(1996)

Jacksonville went 9-7 in their second season, and then went 11-5, 11-5, 14-2, their next 3 years.

So don't say expansion teams are expected to suck for, what is it...8 years now since Texans came into the league. It can be done, so don't make excuses for the Texans...and the Browns for that matter.

Unfortunately for the Texans, they bet the farm on Carr, who proved everytime he touched the ball he was a bust. Carolina was lucky enough to get a young Collins (who might have been there many more years if he wasn't a drunk) and Jax got a young, spry Mark Bruenell. Neither of them were stellar but both went to multiple Pro Bowls and Conf Champ games.

Conversely, Carr's claim to fame was beating Dallas in the Texans' first ever game; it was all down hill from there.

Well, Carr shouldn't get all the blame. With that horrendous o-line the texans had, there's not much Carr could do. Hell Peyton manning couldn't have this team in the playoffs too. This probably made Carr lose his confidence.

That is exactly what happened. They banked on Tony Boselli being their star tackle but he never even suited up because of a career ending shoulder injury. The Casserly/Capers regime didn't help things either by handing out big contracts to mediocre and over the hill players. Rick Smith has turned things around a bit but they still have problems that have never been addressed. Until they can get a compotent GM and a coach that isn't afraid to kick asses they will be nowhere. But I'm cool with that. I'd rather be a fan of a losing franchise than be a fan of the NFL Lakers.
