Female Teacher Charged With Sex With 3 Students

TULARE, Calif. -- A first-year female high school teacher has been charged with having sex with three of her male students in Tulare, Calif.

Tulare police said a staff member at Tulare Western High School went to administrators after hearing rumors that Elizabeth Stow, 26, was having sex with the teens.

All three students are 17 years old, and two are cooperating with police, authorities said.

Students said Stow liked to party with the kids and was friendly with boys in her class.

"They started checking with students ... and they found the name of one student who did admit to being involved with this teacher," said Jerry Breckinridge of the Tulare Police Department.

"I don't feel that this is something that should be going on at any school, let alone here at Tulare Western," said parent Mary Ann Luis.

Stow resigned Monday, the same day she was arrested.

Authorities said she was released after posting $10,000 bond.

The Stow case is the latest nationally publicized incident involving alleged sexual misconduct by a female teacher with male students.

Last June, Florida teacher Debra Lafave (below, left) was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy at least two times.

LaFave is using an insanity defense at her trial this spring, according to plans disclosed by her lawyer.

I don't think teachers or priests have a higher proclivity toward pedophilia, but rather have more opportunities to act any of these desires out. I'm sure the percentages would show that there are just as many pedophiles in other career fields. It would only make sense that we see more of it in these two areas because the chances and opportunities are greater. As far as women being caught more than men in education, I think many of these women truly believe they have little chance of being caught. We were all horny adolescents at one time and many of us would have jumped at a chance to bone a good looking teacher. As a teacher I can tell you that most of us go out of the way to avoid any, and I do mean any chance of a misunderstanding of our intentions by female students. I don't know how many of you have roamed a high school hall lately, but I'm here to tell you that the females don't make any easier on us. The fashion industry is pushing jeans lower and shirts higher. It's tough enough to teach these days, but throw in a dozen or so scantidly clad 17 year old girls, and it's damn near impossible.
