Mavs Not Expected To Match Offer For Hollins

The Timberwolves have signed restricted free-agent center Ryan Hollins to an offer sheet.

The terms of the deal aren't yet known. The Mavericks will have seven days to match Minnesota's offer, but they are not expected to do so.

Dallas owner Mark Cuban went as far as to congratulate Hollins using his Twitter page on Monday: "congrats to ryan hollins. wish him the best w twolves."

So what bigs does that leave Dallas with again? Dirk, Dampier, Gooden, and during small ball, Marion. Who are the others?

i thought he had a lot of potential. We have a serious predicament at the center position for next season. Dampier will be gone and Gooden is definitely not the answer.

it will be interesting what we do

Right now, Mavs have only one player able to defend the rim with Dampier. I wonder if they will do a move for another true center. Buckner's contract is a quite nice trade asset. I would be surprised to see Cuban not using it.

But not a lot. Its a non issue, but the Mavs could use an athletic big. But at the end of the day its not a big deal.

and honestly I think this losing Hollins will have a bigger impact than most other Mavs fans. The guy wasn't great, but he played with a lot of energy and heart, neither of which exist in Dampier. There were times where you could see even guys like Dirk feeding off of Hollins' energy.

But then again, he's also not the third coming of Bill Russell Diop as Spurs fans might believe he is. Dallas backup centers just have a knack for owning Tim Duncan, that's all, they're really not that good.

No he steps under people's feet knowing where they're going to land, he intentionally tries to injure every person he plays, and is woefully unsuccessful at it, and he's constantly being suspended by the league for the blatant cheap-shots he throws. Not sure how it matters, but feel free to post the Szczerbiak video one more time in an effort to change the subject.

Maybe Hollins only threw cheap shots because he was a Mav. I guess we'll find out this season.

He never threw a cheap shot. Nor did Jason Terry or Josh Howard or Jerry Stackhouse or even Juwan Howard. It's just whining by Spurfan to cover up for the sins of Bruce Bowen and the inferiority of the Spurs to the mighty boys in blue.

To actually explain my comment, I don't recall his ever doing anything to Timmy. Not even sure he ever had any issue with any of the Spurs. My impression of watching him last year was that he had just as many altercations or hard fouls as he did good plays, which is too many for a guy getting his minutes. Seemed like a guy with some talent but couldn't keep his cool. Again, we'll see how his temperament evolves with someone else.

Re-signing Hollins is definitely a good move for the Mavs, both in the long run and the short term. Of course, such a good move isn't expected to be made by the Mavs as long as Donnie is the GM of this team. It doesn't cost much to re-sign a latent asset who would probably become a beast defender like Briedrins, or even a dominant center like Al Jefferson if dude lifts up more weight.

while the loss of Hollins is not huge, it still takes away front court depth from a team already lacking front court depth.

sincerely I don't see Biedrins has anything overwhelming what Hollins is equipped with, except the likelihood of getting injured. At the very least, Hollins will be a nice choice as Damp's backup taking 15-20 minutes a night. Besides, it doesn't cost that much to keep him, which makes this case different than Bill Rusell Diop. And I have never thought Donnie had overpaid Devin Harris, who have already proven he is even more valuable than what his salary tells. It's a low-risk investment to give Hollins a contract worth 7mil/3yr and the profit may be pretty freaking big if dude lives up to our expectations.

I'm sorry but Ryan Hollins is a 3rd center at best. he is not a reliable back up in this league. I put him on the level of Johan Petro, Shelden Williams, Randolph Morris, Aaron Gray, Steven Hunter...those type centers are always available. The one thing you can count on Hollins doing is fouling out in 10-15min of play. Sure as a 3rd center he would have been nice but to pay 3yr/$7mil is ridiculous for a guy that might see the floor in 50 games @ 5min a night

OV doesn't have Mark Cuban's dick stuffed in his mouth 24/7, so you have a problem with that. You cry like a baby every time I have a Mav-related post, even though I never go into the "why the Mavs suck" threads.

Hollins is a talented player that lets his emotions get the better of him and lets people get into his head. It's a legitimate evaluation, and something the Mavericks of all teams do not need. It's probably a contributing factor in the club's decision not to match, if that's ultimately how it goes.
