Brandon Roy has become the face of the franchise, and the Portland Trail Blazers want to keep it that way.

Going into the final year of his rookie contract, Roy and the team are on the verge of agreeing to a long-term extension, The Oregonian reported on Tuesday.

"We've had very productive discussions recently and are optimistic we will reach a deal soon," Roy's agent, Bob Myers said, according to the newspaper.

According to the report, Roy has been seeking a four-year deal with a player option for the fifth year at a maximum $82 million.

Roy led the Blazers in scoring (22.6), assists (5.1) and steals (1.1) last season and has averaged 19.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game in his three-year career.

Roy was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a draft day trade for Randy Foye in 2006 and went on to win Rookie of the Year. Before he arrived, the Blazers were 21-61, but they have improved every season and made the playoffs last season at 54-28 -- losing in the first round.

If Roy agrees, the Blazers can turn their attention to signing LaMarcus Aldridge, who entered the league at the same time as Roy. He was second on the team in scoring (18.1) and rebounding (7.5) last season.

Good move by the Blazers. Hopefully they can do something for Aldridge. I think this year I'm going to make the drive down from Yakima to Portland & see a few games.

I used to make the drive to see the Spurs play in Seattle. I've always wanted to check out the Rose Garden. I definately will this year. Been wanting to for the last 3 years that I moved back.

lil penny - not that long of a drive. I drive a lot for my job, inspecting produce around the Pacific NW. Ususally up to 3,000 mile a month.

Portland here I come!

It's funny that the people who complain about Paul flopping have notable floppers on their teams, too.

Well deserved... Roy was playing incredibly well over the past few seasons and he deserves a max deal right now. I just hope he does not net a T-Mac, Jermaine O'Neal type of contract once the new one expires.

Bright future for the Blazers! Kudos.

Now the question is, how much money is Aldridge worth?
I'd say about 65Mill 5 years. He's going to be an All-star.

A soft jump shooting shit rebounding all star. Aldridge is the next David West of an all star. Big bad Blake gonna shit all over him and Olden at the same time.

In what, the D-Leage? Am I the only one that can see through this puppet team in Portland. Don't get me wrong, TLONG and Penny are cool, but this team Sucks A$$. I said it last season, and I'm saying it this season. They are not the team of the future; they are the team that will be there to make for entertainment for the teams of the future. Roy is a second or third option on a contender, and until that major flaw is changed, Portland will continue to blow cock.

:lmao

You couldn't be MORE WRONG!

Aldridge has no post game, until he gets one or Oden miracuously becomes what he should have been the Blazers will never contend.

I was laughing my ass off when LA fans started openly rejoicing the fact that they faced Houston instead of Portland in the second round. :lol

By Adrian Wojnarowski

Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth between $78 million and $82 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Blazers are planning a news conference with Roy on Thursday to announce the deal.

After several weeks of sometimes contentious negotiations, The Oregonian reported on Wednesday that the two sides were closing on an agreement.
