View Full Version : What is your 2nd favourite team?

I know we had it before (surely not only once), but as wee hit the summer break---yeah, I'm also using this excuse to open a dumb thread--- I think its ok, to do it again!

So whats your scond favourite team, why is it that particular team and how do you decide who it is?

I have to say its hard beween NY, DET and OKC and that's because of three different reasons:

NY: coz they where the first team I cheered for in a finals series (against Houston, not us!) and its just a franchise I like coz it hasn't had the success most other bigmarket teams had...also love their fans!...problem is, that I dont like D'Antoni

DET: coz they are playing the game the right way (at least under Larry Brown) and are kind of the easts Spurs...problem here is that I see them not playing that way with charlie and ben anymore

OKC: always liked the Sonics and that may be a reason not to like them as I really hate what happened...but what Presti has build there is just fabulous...love Durant and their young core...problem is, that they are in the west just as the Spurs

...after all I think I'm using kind of a bandwaggon aproach for my second fav team...Spurs will always be my favs an thats where I belong...but it should be ok to have a second fav team with the reason beeing, that i like particular players, styles and so on...

...so I'm going with OKC!

I dont have a second favorite, to me its the Spurs, then teams I respect, then teams I could care less about, then teams I cant stand. Teams I respect: Pistons, Jazz; Teams I cant stand: Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Knicks, Bulls; everybody else I could care less either way.

My second favorite team are the Miami Heat because they Kicked Dirk and the Mavs asses in the Finals.

funny thing: back then I liked the Mavs, hte main reason beeing, that Dirk is a german native just as I am. but if you see your team get kicked out of the playoff by that other team, its over and I was cheering for Miami as well :) (Wade is my fav out of Kobe, LeBron and him)

2 - Silver Stars. You have to love the big 3 of Becky/Sophia/Ann. Becky is a combo guard who can pass really well/Sophia is a combo forward who can drive/shoot and post. Then Ann is the big women in the middle who can also shoot from the perimeter.

3 - Raptors, its all about Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani. 'Nough said.

The Rockets, because I am a homer. I can't get myself to pull for the Mavs due to Cuban. I rooted for the Rockets in the past as my second team after the Spurs, and this years series with the Lakers without Yao and Tmac all the more made me respect them. They showed incredible fortitude and never quit in that Laker series.

It used to be the Clippers until Brand walked. Now I'd probably say the Sonics since they have lots of exciting young guys like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Jeff Green.

Some of the teams Slovenian players were a part of. (not the Lakers though; I can't stand Vujacic)

Besides that... For several years I always liked the Rockets (minus T-Mac). I also liked some of the Detroit teams (minus Ben Wallace and some others). Some good pistons fans on this board probably help that... In the playoffs I usually cheer for the underdog.

Lakers vs Boston series was painful to me because I hated both those teams :/

Vince Carter is my 2nd favorite player, so whoever he plays for becomes one of my teams..so Orlando is my East team, although I'm not a die-hard or anything obviously..

I also cheer for the Raptors, since my family lives in Canada and I've lived there for stretches, so they grew on me from the Vince days..

as for respect..

I have a lot of respect for the Pistons ever since they beat LA in the Finals and played us the year after, so I like to see them do well, although I don't really "cheer" for them..

I also have a lot of respect for the Celtics, since KG is one of my dudes as well, and they remind me of us..

Living in the DC area I'm trying REALLY hard to like the Wiz. It's been tough, but hopefully they'll turn the corner this coming year.

Though I respect Detroit a lot, I think the "2nd team" I look forward to watching next year is Chicago. They played a hell of a series against Boston.

The Cavs of course because of LeBron but I really like the supporting cast they built around him.

1. Whoever is playing the Lakers - I literally will turn on a Laker game if it's close in the 4th, just for the opportunity to see them lose.

2. Cavs. LeBron is the best player in the league, but Mike Brown's offense is painful to watch.

3. Clips. The dream is that someday they'll beat the Lakers like a drum. The Clips also have far and away the best announcers in the league. Ralph Lawler and Mike Smith are tremendous.

Seriously, , the early 90's Blazers were fun to watch, also love the 80's Hawks, Pistons and Lakers. Love watching the championship Rockets (95 series aside) and the early 00's Kings (maybe I really like Adelman's offense).

Yeah, it was just beautiful basketball - on the offensive end, anways. A bit like the Suns in the first two or three Nash-years, except that the Kings were really contenders back then.
