The Rangers said they are planning before today's game to address photos posted by the Web site deadspin.com that appear to show Josh Hamilton drinking and carrying on bar in Arizona over the winter. Accompanying the photos is a story in which Rangers coach and Hamilton confident Johnny Narron casts doubt about the validity of the photos.

this part sucks too
According to one patron, Hamilton, piss-drunk by that point, asked the manager where he could buy blow.

I was upset by this but he is only human and instead of lying or trying to cover it up, at least he came out and admitted he slipped up. Since it was apparently just alcohol he didn't violate any rules.
He was starting to really improve his play lately, I hope that continues. But people will judge him for this and I think it could be a huge distraction. :(

Makes you wonder if he's ever been sober from alchohol.
I hope Josh can learn from this and sober up.
I pray that his wife doesn't freak out over it either..

UPDATE 2:12 ET: Hamilton has addressed the media in Anaheim, where the Rangers are preparing to play the Angels, and admitted to his mistake. He says the incident was a one-time thing and happened in January, not March as previously reported.
Here are a few short quotes from Hamilton's press conference, as passed along by Yahoo! Sports baseball writer Jeff Passan.
• "I'm embarrassed about it. I can't have alcohol. It's a realization. It's amazing how those things creep back in."
• "I am human. I still have struggles."
• "I don't feel like a hypocrite."
• "I thought it would have come out already."

Apparently, he told the Rangers about it right after it happened and they were aware of the situation.
I, too am surprised it didn't come out at the time. I wonder what took so long if it was 8 months ago.

Don't know how I feel about it. On the one hand, it's Josh's fault ultimately for the shitstorm this is going to cause. If he had stayed in his hotel room that night reading his bible, there would be no pictures for Bottomfeedingspin to publish. And if they had miraculously passed, somebody else would've put them up. You can't shoot the messenger. On the other hand, it just seems like Deadspin exists to pile on and tear people down mercilessly once they slip up or do something at odds with their public image.

If Deadspin wanted to take down Hamilton, why would Daulerio have posted the rumor in March when they first got the tip?

Hamilton is human. He lapsed, but I think one of the key things to hold onto here is that he said he came clean to everybody the day after. This is a guy who knows his demons and stepped up and admitted his mistake. I can only assume that his support system helped him get through the lapse without any further damage (seemingly).
I'm not one of these people who feel like people have to come clean to the world every single time. Josh came clean privately to those he cared about and the team that both gave him a chance and seemingly holds his future in their hands (does this incident affect him with the league and its rehab program?).
Not being an addict, I wouldn't know for sure, but something like this seems like this would be a good lesson for those struggling. If you want the help and lapse, be straight with yourself and those you love and hope they'll be there for you.
Hell, this incident makes me have more respect for Hamilton.

Looking at other message boards and the absolute glee some are taking at this saying "typical hypocritical christian" and other horrible things, my heart goes out to Hambone.
Props for doing the right thing.

He came out and admitted his mistakes, unlike all these steroid users, so give the guy a break.

The most amazing thing about this entire incident is that Johnny Blaze actually posted.
How's it going?

+1 Most addicts relapse. Many don't have or willing use a support group immediately afterwards.
This story really made me sad until I heard that he was on top of his shit the very next day. Hope there aren't other incidents that haven't come out yet.

I'm doing OK. Just been working my ass off, which is why my time here has declined. How about you?
If there's a future GTG, I'll still be there.
