Since Timmy is down to 240 he will be played much more at the 4 than the 5?

Or is this simply a realization that Tim doesn't need the extra weight anyway since Yao is out, and the West (and East for that matter) is weak at the center position?

I know that part of the reason for the loss of weight is to keep a little less weight off of his frame to save his knees, just wondering if Pop also will work much more to play him as a 4 this year.

Maybe a combination of all of those factors.

Whether Tim Duncan is 240 pounds or 300 pounds he will always be listed at the 4, and whoever is the other big man will be listed at the 5, whether that be 6-10, 230 lb. Marcus Haislip, 6-9, 245 lb. Antonio McDyess, or 6-7, 265 lb. DeJuan Blair.

As far as the Spurs offense and defense goes, there's not much (if any) difference between the two positions. Stylistically speaking, we know what we're going to get from Duncan on both ends of the floor, and neither of those are likely to change drastically over the next few years.

Ludden's article.

Popovich said Duncan has lost 15 pounds and now weighs 240, a noticeable drop for someone who alternates between power forward and center.
