In the incoming National Basketball Association (NBA) season, the Boston Celtics will pride itself as having the most prolific and strong big men in both power forward and center positions.
After getting the former starting power forward of the Detroit Pistons Rasheed Wallace, the Celtics recently signed to a two-year deal its rising power forward young ball player Glen "Big Baby" Davis.
Davis was signed to a two-year $6 million deal by the Celtics which starts in the incoming NBA season.
The decision of the Celtics to resign one of their top performers in the last NBA season had been hailed by many basketball experts.
The basketball experts said Davis with his size which resembles the physique of a young Shaquille O'Neal thus his nickname "Baby Shaq" and skills has the potentials of being the next NBA superstar in either power forward or center position.
The experts said with Davis coming off the bench to replace Wallace or Celtics leader Kevin Garnett, the team has the deepest roster in the power forward and center positions.
The experts also believe the decision to re-sign Davis is a way saying gratitude by the Celtics management to Davis who played an important role during the play-offs when Garnett was down due to injury.
The Celtics management for its part hoped that their move to resign Davis will inspire the latter to work even harder to help the Celtics regain back the NBA title from the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.
The management said resigning Davis is one of their top priorities since they believe he has the strong potentials to carry the torch for the team for many years to come.
Davis expressed gratitude over the decision of the Celtics to resign him and promised to work even harder to help his team regain back the NBA champion trophy taken from by the Lakers.
Formerly a college basketball player for LSU, Davis was selected by the Seattle Supersonics with the 35th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.
The rights to Davis were traded to the Boston Celtics along with Ray Allen for Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak and the rights to the 5th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Jeff Green.
Davis was on the Celtics' 2007 summer league team.
With the departures of Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, and Al Jefferson, Davis got some playing in his rookie season.
Though he is primarily a power forward, Davis also spent some time playing as the team's backup center in the regular season.

Good signing for us. Let's face it, we've got this year, MAYBE one more before the bottom drops out. I'd like us to have SOME young talent (Big Baby, Rondo) when that happens.
