Is there a better possible coach for Kobe?

I'm sure Scott will be over next season. His contract is up after this upcoming one. The timing is exquisite.

Let's face it: after Jackson & Pop it's a grab bag.
Buss has to keep Jackson content. Throwin' his daughter's considerably attractive beaver at Phil has worked quite splendidly so far.

I don't particularly like or dislike Popovich, but I have to admit he's a good play coach. He usually gets something when he needs to get it.
Phil isn't a good play coach but he's probably the best player/ego management coach there ever was. He gets the most out of the stars and the most out of scrubs.

But, Allan, Phil failed us when he could not exploit & exhaust the tandem of Kobe/Daddy. He failed on the job there and he failed in the bitter aftermath when he scapegoated Kobe & sold him down the river. It was a reprehensible act on Jackson's part and how Kobe ever forgave him enough to sign off on Jackson's return after his hiatus is beyond me & mine.

I agree with that statement, just think that Larry Brown and Pat Riley can be added to that group. Unless you have one of those four coaches, it's as you put it, "a grab bag."

When you win back-to-back then you can have a place at the table. Until then, you're just squattin' on the land.

Look at the Laker team BEFORE Phil came back, and look at the Laker team now. Can you blame Coach K for turning down THOSE Lakers?
With the talent they have now, there's a much better chance of him accepting an offer to coach a ready-made Laker team next summer. Other than PG, their roster is set for the next 2-3 years.

Had more to do with Kobe than Phil, Dunc. Kobe walking in and reading Buss the riot act was justified. Bryant's mistake was not in tearing the bark off Buss, but, quitting at Phoenix in Game 7 before he tore into him.

That wasn't my point, Cul. I was saying Coach K turned down the Laker job in 2004 because he saw a team that had just shipped off Shaq and lost 2 other starters (Malone and Payton) from the 04 team that lost to Detroit in the Finals. It was basically gonna be the Kobe show, and that wasn't gonna be enough to win. Coach K knew that and respectfully declined the offer to coach the Lakers.
The Laker team of next summer (provded Phil ACTUALLY retires this time) will be a much more attractive team to coach for Coach K, as they talent level and depth is WAY AHEAD of where it was in 2004-2005.
Just saying Coach K was wise to turn them down in 2004, but that doesn't mean he'll turn them down in 2010 if the Lakers offer him the job. I can see him making the jump to the NBA.

Does this mean that you never talk trash to a Celtics fan?

What can I say? We're a puny market. The league hates our brand of ball and our star. LA doesn't even have to try. They attract players like flies and have a rich owner. You SHOULD be winning titles, and we should win any. Yet, we do.

No, I'm a Cleveland Indians, Alabama Crimson Tide & Cleveland Browns fan from way back.
I talk trash to them all the time, but, they're pretty tame on this Forum...unlike the Spurs Fandom which are weak & puny but fancy themselves some kind of king shit.
