Yes, it will help. We need someone with playoff experience :)
But seriously, Salty could be out for awhile and they wanted a veteran to backup our backup, instead of a 28-yr old career-AAA guy in Richardson, as good as he was last night. Simple as that.

The trade is for two "mid-tier" prospects, and he's going to be backing up Teagarden...Mathis isn't the starter.

what blog are you talking about? I read the biggets Rangers blog on the net and everyone is excited but nobody thinks it's a WS clinching trade. Most of us are just wondering what prospects they gave up.
ATRAIN

im sure they are trolling and whatever.
If this works out for you guys then im happy for you, at least you guys got a shot at playoffs so no reason for us to keep any talent and its time for our owner to realize we need to rebuild instead of reload.

I hope your team rebuilds, too. Winning all these Silver Boots is boring without a challenge. :lol
You may get some decent arms from the Rangers, they are somewhat overstocked on them right now at the mid and lower levels, some teams have too many pitchers and not enough fielders. Actually, even our AAA team only has one catcher and two true outfielders right now and no true 3B. So a little pruning to get a replacement for Salty might be just what the doctor ordered.

Ivan Rodriguez is rejoining the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers have agreed to trade two minor leaguers to the Houston Astros for Rodriguez, who was Texas' catcher the last time the franchise made the playoffs in 1999.
Rodriguez will back up Taylor Teagarden, who has started while Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been on the disabled list.
The Rangers are responsible for a prorated part of the $1.5 million, one-year contract, which includes $1.5 million in incentives, that Rodriguez signed with the Astros in March, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Rodriguez, who is hitting .251 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs this season, played for the Rangers from 1991 to 2002, winning 10 Gold Gloves and the AL MVP in 1999.

Solid move.
IMO pudge > Teagarden.

Jamey Newberg says its Jose Vallejo, Clinton 2B & Hickory reliever Matt Nevarez. No one from Frisco.
That is good news. Vallejo has to clear waivers and Nevarez is rule 5 eligible in November. Rangers weren't going to protect him anyway.

Houston wanted to save some change + open a spot for young developing player and the Rangers payed garbage. Great move.
Now I'm glad I was one of the people who gave him a standing O when the stros played in Arlington earlier in the year

:lol yeah he is definitely up there, but I still argue that Pudge is #1 because of the amount of years he spent with the team, and the fact it was his first one. I can't say this enough because I'm so proud of this fact, but...I was in attendance along the first base line for the game when Nolan Ryan beat the shit out of Robin Ventura. I will never forget that. :lol

lol nope, but Nolan is right up there with Pudge and this other mystery person. I'll give ya one more guess before I tell ya. :D

I absolutely loved the way he played. He went balls out on every fly ball near him, and made soooo many acrobatic catches, sliding catches, and catches while running into the wall. Plus, he could hit too: .303 career hitter. It's too bad he suffered through injury problems that cut his career short. I loved me some Rusty.

Does anyone know what PCT basestealers are getting on Pudge? Pudge is like Bowen in that he can do jack shit on offense and still be valuable because of the way he can shut down a running game. He's unquestionably the greatest catcher in history in that category..it's why he's got those Gold Gloves.
If that part of his game is still intact his offense is more than enough...besides, he knows how to hit at TBPIA. He's one of the guys it was built for.

Nolan > all other Ranger players combined. Without him the Rangers would still be a de-facto minor league team for the Yankees and A's that no one cares about...not even in the Metro(and no one cared before Nolan at all). In fact they probably wouldn't even be in Arlington anymore without him. That's definitely the park that he built. And he is unquestionably the most important player and signing in team history. If the Rangers currently had Arod and Pujols on the roster, they still wouldn't be as important as Nolan.
