Steve is still great, but the topics of the show haven't been good in a long time. I think the only way to save it at this point is to have Todd Packer be a regular

Little known fact about Jump the Shark. Jon Hein, a Howard Stern Show personality and staffer coined the term and created jumptheshark.com. He sold it to TV Guide last year for what is believed to be somewhere between 5-10 million.

House jumped the shark in Season 4 and actually did it really really well, despite adhering to nearly every "shark-jumping" principle (new cast, death of a relatively major character, shift in dynamics of the show away from medicine). In fact, it might be a better show now than in Seasons 1-3.

Lost.

It jumped the shark for a while there. Now they have taken it to the farthest end of the sci-fi spectrum by making it a demigod god v. devil plot.

The great thing about Early Lost was not knowing wtf was going on and the directors promising the entire story could be explained through some-what plausible circumstances.

It's still an extremely interesting show though.

I think they said that Seinfeld was one of the shows that had never jumped the shark

Jumping the shark is not when you stop liking it, it's when they do something in the show's original run that makes it unwatchable. Like once Fonzi jumped the shark on skis it ruined the rest of Happy Days. That's the definition of it, not when you are tired of watching reruns.

The reason I don't think it's jumped the shark is because it was already mysterious/ridiculous from season 1, beginning with polar bears and a smoke monster appearing. But, they've done a pretty good job explaining things - why the plane crashed, why there are polar bears and "hatches" on the island, why there are natives etc.

You can't jump the shark on a rerun, but I get what you are saying a bit, but eleven years later ain't bad, especially if you are like me and watch it all the time.

I would disagree about the original Law and Order jumping the shark. The show has been procedural from start to finish. It's not like Criminal Intent or SVU. The original usually sticks to the cases and trials and rarely ever has episodes centered around the show's characters.

I like House but I think it jumped the shark when House got the new guys for his team. In my opinion, a show has a better chance of avoiding the jump if it doesn't peak too soon. If a show gets better in a somewhat slow pace, then it probably won't jump the shark until later on. Just look at all of the shows that are around 5 years old or younger and see how many of them have peaked and are just going downhill.

I don't think you can say Lost jumped the shark when it's been attempting to jump the shark almost from the get go. It's always been a weird show with its own mythology, only now the mythology is more entwined with the plot.

Family Guy since it's return from cancellation. Peter is unwatchable (too stupid, too obnoxious, no redeeming qualities), Stewie's character has changed considerably (he's queer, we get it), and Meg being the butt of every joke is quite lame.

The worst thing is that Seth McFarlane keeps getting new, shittier shows. I love Fox.

As much as i hate ageeing with the guys that do southpark i enjoyed the family guy 2 parter, especially the part where the 2 guys are fighting and they go though the king of the hill set where it shows actual writers.

i stopped watching when McFarlane decided to use Brian as his own soapbox. Seriously in one episode he tries to convince Meg God doesn't exist and yet 2 weeks before he met Jesus

I completly agree. The first two seasons of Nip/Tuck (esp season one) were the best. My favorite show on TV. Then season 3 was crap, with the storyline revolving around Michelle, a very boring charecter . And the midget sex became ridiculous. Julia had sex with a midget and Sean got a bj from a midget. wtf? I didn't have cable by the time season 4 rolled around.

Heroes- Basically throwing what made some characters what they were (their powers) out the window.

Prison Break- Well I loved the 1st season, then it just became a giant conspiracy kind of show and I never could get myself back into it

Pro wrestling in general- Too many bland steroid fueled muscle-heads who talk like they're just hitting puberty. What made me a fan of wrestling was the over the top personalities like warrior/macho man and then they'd just add to that with the crazy matches. Now it's terrible, just terrible.

Wrestling jumped the shark in 2001/2002 or so.

And Heroes pisses me off, because it had potential to be a great series like Lost. But the storylines just went to crap... and I've never liked the Ali Larter storyline at all. Why is she still on the show? Yeesh.
