I guess quite literally New Orleans "owned" the jazz.
from wikipedia:
History
New Orleans Jazz 1974–1979
Utah Jazz 1979–present

Did you really think "Jazz" was a name that originated in Utah?
Btw - Minneapolis used to "own" the Lakers.

I said this before:
The Hornets become the Jazz.
The Jazz become the Mountaineers.
It's a win-win situation.

The histories of every franchise on one page.
My favorite is the Kings and their 30 year journey across the country from Rochester, NY to Cincinnati to Kansas City and Omaha and then finally to Sacramento.

Utah has always been known for it's jazz and black community. They make the best gumbo, I hear.

I find the team name "Jazz" disgusting and pathetic. A great state like Utah being tarnished by some jigaboo team name.

Nah, "Thunder" is just as generic and would look right at home on a Junior School Soccer jersey. OKC should have chosen the "Barons", much cooler.

lol post count? what are u 12? And judgin by your post count, I guess thats something thats supposed to be relevant?
I just thought it was interesting coz the hornets and jazz fans go at it all the time on this site. And they root for the same team essentially, could have easily been so different. All the Utah fans swearing by cp3, and the hornets adopting Dwill ..
oh and i apologize if this was painfully obvious to other stalwarts on this site. :( offseason sucks.

I think if memphis and Utah switched names it would be perfect.
If the Jazz team name leaves Utah, the only logical place would be New Orleans.
