Russia exposed them. We were lucky the russian forwards missed all those oportunities to score.

I'm actually looking forward to Brazil exposing Maradona. Its high time this fucking country realizes who and what he is. A great player, no doubt but absolutely nothing else. He wouldn't know coaching if it hit him in the face.

It also gets pretty fucking tiring to see how most people in Argentina pay attention to Maradona like he is a deity or something. When in reality he is an ignorant piece of crap with no sense of the responsibility his "role model" status comes with.

The day kids in this country stop modeling themselves after trash like him is the day this country turns a corner.

I'll always pull for Argentina against Brazil, simply because Brazil is always considered the best in soccer. However, I'll never forgive the Maradona hand ball in 86'. Why Maradona is managing I still have no idea, and you can forget about defense as long as he's there.

BTW, Argentina has the best looking uniforms in maybe any sport, anywhere, IMO.

Also fuck the Maradona haters.

The guy won the world cup by himself and bought happiness to a shitty ass country that really needed it at the moment, and for that reason Maradona has my support, the hunger to win hasn't been in the Argentina national team for a long time and the fact that he's trying his best to make those prima donnas understand what they are playing for is very important and something that had to be done a long time ago.

Yes he has made mistakes, but who hasn't, and it really pisses me off when people judge others when they don't look themselves first.

Maradona has made a lot of positive changes in his life, and about being the coach of Argentina he still has a lot of time to prove himself, and there's no reason to make personal attacks about him.

Oh give me a fucking break! I know the reason Maradona nut huggers like him, you're not breaking any news here.

I'll be the first to tell you that the reasons I don't like Maradona have nothing to do with the way he plays football. I loved how he played as well, but at least recognize that you love him for what he WAS, not what he IS. What he is, is everything that is wrong with Argentina. That being willfully ignorant, irresponsible, and a fucking sellout to the highest bidder.

Yes he has made mistakes, but who hasn't, and it really pisses me off when people judge others when they don't look themselves first.

Spare me the "don't judge, lest you be judged" bullshit! He is a public figure, his behavior influences people. He chose to not give a fuck about that. Besides, I don't understand why people love him so much. Yeah, he won the world cup 23 fucking years ago. All of a sudden, he is a deity who can't do or say anything wrong. He always gets a pass. In fact, when he's finished fucking up the national team, he'll get a pass as well. That's how fucking stupid we are.

By the way, I'd like to point out that he may have won WC in 86 for us, but he's also the single biggest reason our team lost in 94. Remember the games after he was escorted out by the nurse (what a proud moment that was)? I don't remember seeing a team more demoralized in my life.

and about being the coach of Argentina he still has a lot of time to prove himself, and there's no reason to make personal attacks about him.

I have zero faith in his ability to coach shit but my personal attacks on him have nothing to do with his coaching and everything to do with him.

Obviously, I sidetracked like a motherfucker in this thread but I just find it hard to believe we still worship people like him after all the shit we've been through. I'm beginning to think we'll never. fucking. learn.

I think our offense is crap and I think Brazil knows this...

I think our defense is crappier and I know Brazil knows this...

I think every time we play Brazil our nuts shrivel and the only times we've been able to beat them is when we come in focused and coordinated. Anyone that thinks this team is focused or coordinated after watching the Russia match is deluded.

This is just my opinion. You're welcome to disagree.

Argentina will not lose against Brazil in their home, they might draw (or tie -Which one do I have to use on this case?) but they won't lose. Brazil has never beaten us playing in Argentina and I don't think they will now. Brazil has been winning lately but they aren't playing particularly well, in fact not to long ago they were in a worst position than us.

If Schiavi plays even 1 minute, it would be a miracle.

About Palermo, I want him to have a chance. Maybe 10 or 15 mins.
He made a HUGE mistake some years ago missing 3 penalty kicks in the same game. People will never forget it, and I don´t want him to be remembered like that.
He is one of the best argie scorers of the last 30 years. He deserves another chance, imo. I want him to vindicate.

He played in Spain (Villarreal).
He was doing fine, getting used to the european style.
But he had bad luck. After he scored a goal, he went to celebrate with the fans, and a wall collapsed over his leg. Fracture. 6 months out.

After he came back, he struggled. It took him some time to get back to his previous level.

Unfortunately, he tore his ligaments twice iirc. We was out for 6 months a couple of times.

Anyway, he scored over 100 goals in Argentina and won everything a club can win locally and internationally.

He is not the most skilled player. I give you that. And he is like 34 or 35 years old now. Not exactly part of the future of the team.

Every team would love to have a "9" like him.

Yes. At Palermo´s position, we are struggling.
No more Batistutas or Crespos.
Our forwards are Tevez, Messi, Aguero...all of them very skilled players, but midgets to play central forward.
Milito, Lavezzi, Salvio, Lopez...good scorers, but players who can´t hold a position against stronger players during corner kicks or free kicks.
I don´t expect any goals scored by headers if we don´t have a big and strong forward.

I know Higuain is doing well with Real Madrid.
But he is not exactly a big and strong forward.
I mean, the NT needs a pure scorer ala Bati, Crespo, Palermo, Valdano...
We have plenty of wing forwards who "create" offense, but we need a finisher.
This is just my opinion. We can play with Tevez, Messi ( who reportedly are the starters), and still win.
But I like the "1 outside, 1 inside " type of offensive scheme better.

Sorry but I have to laugh at this. Cannavaro, Heinze? They're hated in Madrid.

AS.COM's (one of Spain's most important sports magazines) made a poll this year (where Real Madrid's fans voted) asking who should be the starting forward: Raul or Higuain? and Gonzalo won by a large margin, then they made another one asking who was RM's best player and Higuain came 2nd only behind Casillas. So as you can see is not my opinion, it's what most RM's fans think.

I think other than Javier Zanetti the defense needs to be completely changed, Heinze should fucking retire, he's horrible...

Midfield I never understood why Gago didn't start, with Mascherano and him you have probably the best defensive midfielders there.

Last offense its there but you need a big guy like Batistuta, thats what Argentina really needs, theres two promising players that I think could be good for Argentina if they develop and that is Milton Caraglio and Cristian Fabbiani.

He is to blame, no doubt... when you lose 3-1 to a team that basically has done nothing offensively there is something really wrong and the fact that Maradona has done nothing to correct it its not encouraging.

blah, blah, blah is all you've been doing with Maradona's nuts in your mouth.

We get it, you wouldn't blame Maradona even if he had run onto the field and scored against us. You're no different than most here.

Every loss we've had since this jackass took over has been chalked up to players not giving enough effort, not having enough heart... It couldn't possible be Maradona's fault.

Maradona doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, period. Of course, no amount of losses is going to convince his nuthuggers of that.

that's facts, i don't see what's the problem here. Maradonna was a great player, is not a good example as a person and is a terrible coach.

Of course he's criticized, did you see the level of play of the Argie team? Only Domenech is a worst NT coach.:depressed

Yes, fortunately Ecuador lost yesterday too, so we conserve the 4th spot. But now we have to go to Paraguay, one of the worst possible matches.

I only saw the first half of the match 'cause I had a party to go and the score didn't encourage me to stay in my house and watch the rest of the game. But from what I saw Argentina played decent, Brazil had just two oportunities and they capitalized, what you're going to do?

The changes I'd make would be:

-Put Carrizo as the goalkeeper, he's by far our best one. He's now playing as a starter in Zaragoza so there's no excuse.

-Heinze needs to go, the guy sucks plain and simple.

-We need to play with a true center-forward, we can't play with two 5 foot nothing guys up there.

-And Maradona get your fucking head out of your ass and give Higuain a call. He's the second best offensive player we've got.

My team would be:

Carrizo

Zanetti Demichellis Otamendi

Rodriguez Veron Mascherano Datolo

Messi Lopez Higuain

He will play for France anyway, we were not sure but with Maradona now it's almost done...

didn't Higuain already play a game for the Argentine NT? (as far as I know he did) if yes, he can't play for France any more.

I think other than Javier Zanetti the defense needs to be completely changed, Heinze should fucking retire, he's horrible...

just one question to the Argentinians:
I watched a summery of the game and was shocked to see Veron at team Argentina. didn't even know that he is still playing. some years back I thought he was one of the most overrated players in Europe (considering he was transfered for almost 60 million transfer fee to ManU). I really thought he was done, when he left Europe. did he rejuvenate in Argentina and is he good enough for the NT? (especially thinking about the world cup next year and the fact that he will be 35)

Yes he did but is wasn't an official one so technically he can choose France if he wants to.

He was our best player against Brazil. And yes he is playing good enough to play in the NT.

He is playing really well here.
I think he is playing for something else now.
He used to play for the money. Now he plays for the glory ( he made enough money in Europe), and for the club he loves.
Estudiantes won the Libertadores Cup (the most important tournament of the continent ), with Veron as the leader and best player of the team.

I agree with you about the center-forward. I said it before.
But we don´t have any decent one except for maybe Cavenaghi.

Dinosaurs like Fuertes or Palermo are the best we currently have. :bang

some more (a bit clueless) questions:
is Cambiasso no longer in the picture? (not mentioned in the whole thread)
Diego Milito? (the guy can score and gives quite a few assits either)
Lucho González?

Cambiasso is not out of the picture, but Mascherano and Gago are in front of him as central midfielders. And we also have Bolatti (you probably don´t know him, but he was one of the best players in the last arg tournament).

Diego Milito played a few minutes against Brazil, but he plays better in Europe than he does with the NT. Slightly above average forward, imo.

Lucho has had his chances, but never made a difference. He is a good player, though. I don´t know why Maradona has not called him. Maxi Rodriguez and Veron are ahead of him in the current roster.

Yes. Playing for Olympique. I didn´t know he was injured.

He has been injured during a preparation game. His injury is healing well, normally he will come back September 12th against Le Mans.

Their final two games:

vs Peru
vs Uruguay

If Uruguay wins their next game against Ecuador, then Argentina and Uruguay could end up playing a decisive game for the fifth spot.

Venezuela is also one point behind Argentina but their last games are against Paraguay and Brazil.

It's going to get very interesting in the last two games for the teams between 4 and 7 of the qualifying table.
