Chuy's... I don't get it. Been 3 times - hated it all three. Living in Austin, saying anything bad about Chuy's is sacrilegious. I loved how when they opened the one in the Forum, they needed (maybe still need) the rent-a-cops to run traffic in and out of the parking lot.
Anybody remember San Francisco Steak House? Talk about a waste of big money.
Not to mention the time I found an unidentifiable chunk of SOMETHING in my salad. It was about two inches cubed and looked like pork fat or cantaloupe or something. Even the waiter couldn't tell what it was; they claimed it was cheese rind and then offered to comp my meal. Must've been one hell of a piece of cheese.

If we talk about Austin I might as well throw in Matt's El Rancho. The place is ok but people nut their pants over there over it. I lived there for 7 years and can name better places to eat than that. The bob dip isn't THAT badass.

los barrios is always cold allen, and their chips and salsa are average at best
if you cant serve piping hot food and have good chips and salsa you have no business running a texmex restaurant in texas
also the bigass one up north thats like on 40 acres and 30,000 sq feet, you have to organize a search and rescue if you ever want to find your server

I've had better tasting steaks @ Texas Roadhouse & Texas Land and Cattle.
I agree with you on this . . . to a point. As far as tenderness and texture, I have not had a better steak than Ruth's Chris. The steak almost literally melts in your mouth. As far as taste, I completely agree. It's as if they forgot to season it. If they could take their steak, let me season it, then they cook it, that would make for a GREAT steak. With all that being said, their grilled ahi tuna is the second best item of seafood I have ever had.
Whoever said Texas Land and Cattle has better steaks: I have NEVER had a good steak there, and I worked there. Saltgrass is far superior.
Overrated restaurants?
Any of the mexican restaurants that make any top list in a magazine. Mi Tierras, and El Jarro come to mind. Chuy's sucks. Chipotle is horrible, but I think Free Birds is good.
One place that I continually rate very high, but can never seem to overrate no matter how hard I try is Magnolia Pancake Haus.

MAMACITAS sucks ass. it's white people's mexican food.
Oh YES! THANK YOU! I work in the building next to it and some people swear by the place. The food sucks and I have proof. There is a guy who started coming to sell tacos out of the back of his truck at 10 am every morning. The FIRST people to notice him and walk out and buy when he first started showing up were the mamacitas managers. By the fourth day all of the employees were out there waiting on him. The food is horrible and I am a white person. Then people say "Well the have good margaritas too." BS, I can go to Chachos down the street and get far superior margaritas or go home and make the best ones. . . I am glad someone else agrees with me.

I have never been there. :(
It's to the point that I am afraid to try new things there now. They do EVERYTHING so ridiculously well that I am afraid there is on dish that they screw up to epic proportions. I mean, I don't really like coffee, but my fiance does. I took a sip of her coffee . . . the BEST I have ever had. They have fresh squeezed juices which isn't totally unique, but they must have the golden tree for the respective fruits. I have never had orange juice like that. They have very creative omelets (or at least unusual for around here), but they are executed perfectly. Make sure you get something that requires syrup. Oh and all I have to say is Muenchener Apfel Pfannekuchen.

I'm a biased Sicilian girl. Olive Garden and Spaghetti Factory are never going to win when I'm invariably comparing them to grandma's cooking.
Now that is totally understandable. :tu That is why it is so hard for me to like a Mexican restaurant because nothing ever tastes like what my mom or grandma's ever put on the table.
And I've yet to taste rice that even comes close.

Picollo's is good stuff.
I finally got over to try The Egg and I the other morning. Not a bad atmosphere - simple decor and actual classical music on the speakers - not elevator music. I wouldn't recommend the biscuits and gravy, but the potatoes were very good and the macadamia nut coffee was excellent.
