RASHO NESTEROVIC PLACED ON INJURED LIST

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have placed center Rasho Nesterovic on the injured list with a left ankle sprain. Nesterovic is averaging 5.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per contest this season.

At the same time the Spurs activated forward Linton Johnson III. Johnson has appeared in one game for the Spurs this season after undergoing surgery to repair a left ankle stress fracture on 11/23/04. The 6-8 forward, who signed with the Spurs as a free agent on 8/25/04, will be in uniform for tonight's Spurs-Warriors game.

what's the status on Rasho's injury? is it bad? when is he coming back? Why did they activate Linton, since he plays a different position.

Is LJ3 actually fit to play?

that sucks.

The ankle must have blown up today.

Pop wouldn't have done that if he thought there was ANY chance Rasho would be back before the playoffs.

Last night in Ludden's column, they said he wouldn't be back until the playoffs. So this was pretty expected.

As for Linton, I guess it's good to just have another body for now.

Report is that Rasho will be out for at least 5 games. Might as well see what Linton's got!

could be an entertaining game tonight...won't be "Spurs basketball" but I can see Pop putting some bizarre lineups on the floor and just seeing which players sack up and bring their A game...gonna be some tough playoff roster decisions this year...

I've my Coors Light all chilled, my pizza on order, and priming myself to be pleasantly surprised tonight.

Tonight, and this week, is a huge chance for several second stringers to get some serious minutes.

How does the IR list work (if at all) during the playoffs? Say that Rasho is not able to come back during the last week of the regular season. Can they put Rasho on the IR list, and pull him off once the playoffs are under way? Or are IR listed players off limits once the playoffs are under way?

I'm wondering how Rasho's injury will affect Pop's choices for the playoff roster. It seems like that T-mass is a lock after his performance last night and after Rasho's injury. Before the injury, I'd have thought Nazr was going to be the odd man out with Wilks. When is the deadline to select a roster?

I don't believe in believing. :)

I'm prepared to watch some bench/IR/practice-meat guys grab a golden opportunity with both hands, bow they necks, and play ball. Help themselves get a chance for the playoff roster by helping their team in its deep distress.

It will be extremely interesting to see how Pop and staff play their cards. Tonight will be as much a test of Pop as of the players.

Damn, the guy's played 15 minutes all year.

We just aren't in the slack cutting business at all here.

Except when we are (Nazr, Barry, whomever else we like).

There is no IR in the playoffs. Also, the 5-game minimum for IR summarily ends at the end of the regular season.

There is a playoff roster and that's it. Any person on the regular season roster or the IR is eligible to be on that roster.

However, the roster is only 12 people. Furthermore, the roster is cast into concrete between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs. Once the playoff roster is set, no roster moves are allowed for any reason. Injuries, sickness, bad play...too bad. You go with the 12 you name for the entire playoffs.

With one exception, if a team gets depleted by legit injuries to I believe 8 they can add a player off the non-playoff roster.

I believe that's true, but it's as an exception, and they have to ask "mother may I" to do it. It's not automatic.
