If Sen. Kennedy could "actively" serve as a United States Senator while battling brain cancer, then Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi could have served out his sentence despite calls for "compassionate release."

Also, Chappaquiddick.

He obviously screwed up in his personal life in many ways, but many young people have no idea of the things they take for granted that in many ways exist because of his work in the Senate.

For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts. -- President Obama
It will be interesting to see if his death somehow energizes the health care reform movement for which he worked for years.

Uh the man left a woman to die and has done nothing but attempt to cover it up and lie about it since the day it happened. It's made even worse by the fact that she was still alive in the car for an extended period of time while he was trying to save his career.

I hope whatever monument they put on Kennedy's grave, it looks a little somethine like this:

http://www.google.com/url?source=imgres&ct=tbn&q=http://www.betterlifestylesinc.com/images/pictures/HomeToiletImage2.jpg&usg=AFQjCNEuqrZhnWEdyoTlAdGIeyMf2eg-xQ

And I can think of no better asswiping material than the "legislation" he passed.

The fact that this poor excuse for a human being went to his grave without ever owning up to what he did means exactly one thing, the world and the human race are now a better place for his passing.

The fact that this self serving self indulgent piece of human excrement is no longer living a life of privilege is the best thing to happen to our government in decades.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people, not above the people.

Assume whatever you want...I don't consider a defender of Ted Kennedy worth a reply. I consider you a willing and proud an accessory to the needless death of an innocent woman and the coverup that followed. I do not consider you to be a normal human being. I consider you to be great deal less.

But sure...drinking and driving, at the very least he should have to face the same consequences drunk drivers who kill people now have to face...which is jail time, and no doubt this lump of shits signature is on some of that legislation as well.

May you spend the afterlife engulfed in the fabs of flat on this disgusting bloated slug that you now defend.

I didn't defend Ted Kennedy at all. I just had no clue what you were referring to. He did admit to the crash so I wasn't sure what you meant, whether you thought he was drinking and driving, or that he really didn't try to save her and lied about that.

Seriously, if people wouldn't try to pass this guy off as hero, I probably wouldn't despise him near as much as I do, well actually I probably still would if you want to be truthful about it. He's a far from a hero as it's possible to be. And the word hero is lesser for his association with it.

He's not a hero, he's a coward, a liar and a guy that had no business making decisions as a part of a government, he should have been serving in it's prisons.

I remember a few years ago, T.K. was going around making speeches about how the 30-30 cartridge was a "cop-killer" cartridge and should be banned.

:lol what a forking idiot... 30-30 came out in the 1890's and it's pretty weak compared to other rifle rounds. ALL rifle rounds will penetrate a BP vest, which are just made to stop common pistol rounds.
In fact, he wanted to ban all rifle rounds that would penetrate body armour, including most deer hunting cartridges.

It was Senate Amendment 2619. Almost all Dems voted for it, but many more Repubs voted against.

I'm sure this is a sad time for his family and friends, but I'm not heartbroken over his passing. As far as health care reform - now that Robert "Sheets" Byrd is in the hospital and Ted Kennedy is in hell, and many other dems are jumping ship, the Senate has nowhere near the 60 votes needed to pass anything.

The man had the law changed in Massachusetts just so Gov. Romney couldn't appoint a successor if Kerry had won. Lately, he wanted it changed back so the Democrat Gov could appoint someone right away instead of waiting for a special election. Nothing but pure partisan politics. It would be a fitting legacy if the people of Massachusetts have finally wised up and elect a Republican to fill his seat! :lmao

Oh - and Mary Jo Kopechne finally has justice - albeit 40 years too late...

This was an obvious hit carried out by the Obama administration.

With the health care reform bill in mind, Teddy was more valuable to The State dead than alive.

Obama's timing is impressive. Economic collapse right before election. Health care reform martyr dead just as the health care reform was on its death bed just as Obama vacations in MV. Props to you good sir :toast

I envy your son, I haven't played now in about four years. I have been
having some bad back problems. Go Friday to get it shot up again, not a
pleasant thing, but it helps some.

Family is growing, damn, I have four great grandkids now. And nearly all
my grandkids are out of high school. Hell, most have already graduated
from college. Saturdays are the pits, I have one who graduated from
UT, the liberal in the family, one from Texas Tech and one from A&M
Galveston.

Hey congratulations on the 34th. My 56th is coming up next March.

When we all get together, which fortunately is quite often, it is a sight

Thanksgiving and Christmas. Everyone is here or at my Daughters

Hooray! A man is dead and my political agenda will now be advanced by his passing!

Senator Kennedy wasn't a great man, but he was obviously well-liked and deeply respected by his colleagues and that says something. One might think that he must have been at least marginally effective in his public service, too, given the vitriol thrown his way even in death. There wouldn't be much need to vilify a guy who never got anything done.

RIP Ted Kennedy. The substantial burdens of your public life -- many self-inflicted and still others cast by the cruel hand of fate -- are behind you.

Somehow, I doubt that this drunk driving incident is the main reason people dislike Kennedy. It's pretty silly how people refer to it as murder, when it doesn't fit the definition by any means. Yes, he screwed up badly, likely committed manslaughter (not murder). Let's get that over with. I don't think anything clears him of his wrongdoing.

The point is, then anytime some political character does something illegal, that's all that matters to those who dislike him. When in truth, had George W Bush did it, you would see a reversal of roles here. A more recent example is when Jerry Fallwell died.

He was never convicted of anything.. yet since he's a lib the right acts as if he has been found guilty..

And if he were a conservative the left would be acting just the same. Lefties and righties are nothing more than identical twins who like to bicker.

I disagree with that completely. He got extremely lucky with a good defense. The facts are that he didn't report the incident for over 8 hours and came up with a wild story to support it. Anyone else would have been tried and found guilty. I'm not going to deny for one second that his name and political ties did not help him out.

I find it very hard to believe that the judicial system, the victim's family, DA's office, Police dept, and media would all be in cahoots to get him off. I guess it is possible that this happened but I find it really hard to believe.

Some of the people that post in this forum are just terrible people and often painfully white. What is painfully white? They feel pain from the NBA and any person that does not recognize white power.

Wow, someone says something you don't like and the first thing you bring up is skin color, you're just like the guy that says all blacks are lazy when he sees one on welfare and all mexicans are theives because he sees one being arrested for theft.

The first thing you see and react too is skin color, this makes you stupider than most animals. You represent that absolute lowest common denomintor of human sentience, and the easiest to manipulate.

I bet I could be a klan leader and still wind up the head of your congress just on the basis of saying what you want to hear and tapping into your racial hatred. All the while justifying my own superiority over how easily I am deceiving you.

You are completely ignorant and you are a racist who can't see beyond skin color, a superficial characteristic whose purpose is primarily adaptive, doesn't define most intelligent beings, and one over which we have absolutely no control.

On top of that you are what I like to call a false liberal...

You are the exactly the type of ignorant trash the white man was trading with when he gave the black man money for capturing and selling his own brother...and the brown man glass as he took over his land for little more than healthcare..er, I mean glass beads.

Make no mistake about this, you are an ignorant person, stupider than most animals, and people who think as you do are the easiest to manipulate, and usually the first to wind up licking the boots of their masters.

I could make a fake nic and have you eating out the palm of my hand just by saying what you so obviously want to hear....laughing at how completely fucking stupid you are as I do it.

I give you credit, you make no attempt to hide it at least, which ranks you actually above most liberals as far as integrity goes, but still far inferior when it comes to intelligence, and that's saying something, because there are some pretty fucking stupid libs on this forum.

Make no mistake about this, I do not like Ted Kennedy regardless of his politics. However, beyond all doubt the people defending him are defending him because of his politics.

Because there is absolutely no other reason to defend him.

Nah, that's expected. When a Kennedy dies, the media has to spend the day talking about the "American royalty" that is the Kennedy family and they have to talk about the family curse.

BTW, the solution is the massive depopulation of human species on this planet. Something pretty much everyone regardless of political affiliation, is dead set against in their various ways. Quite simply, there's just too many fucking people in this world and the root cause of every conflict in the history of mankind is too many people in the same space.

Or to put it another way....all the world's man made problems would immediately cease if everyone would just sit still for 5 minutes. And it's absolutely true.

Anyway, thanks for the non-answer, it was about what I expected...Cow doesn't really understand what draws her to become one the herd either, it's just her instinct and because she is an animal instinct rules her. Whether the herd is going to the slaughterhouse, or not.

Think about it for a second...in all the years, how often have I initiated a dialogue with you, it's almost always you initiating it with me. I might have initiated it once or twice and I don't really think I've even done that but I'm willing to consider it, but the bulk of the dialogue has been initiated by you.

Who is calling him a hero? He made many good decisions in government, that you don't agree with his party affiliation is the main cause of your hate. If he was a Republican I am sure you would not be writing this. You are a puppet of conservative talk radio. You are weak minded and easily influenced by talk radio.

Sad sad day for libs...this pathetic mound of corpulence that let the woman he was cheating on his wife with die while spending an extended amount of time trapped in a sinking car due entirely to his own intoxicated ignorance, not only did not even try to save her, but acted first and foremost to save his own career and protect himself from the consequences of his actions...has died.

What a sad sad day, for all who admire him.

I'm just glad he was terrified of dying like his brothers if he seriously challenged for the Presidency...at least his cowardice produced something worthwhile in his lifetime.

I am sure all Democrats feel they are lesser that this fat lump of cowardly corrupt shit is no longer among their number...

Another One Bites The Dust (http://www.takimag.com/sniperstower/article/another_one_bites_the_dust/)
by Dylan Hales (http://www.takimag.com/blogs/dylanhales) on August 26, 2009

I never liked The Kennedys and never believed in Camelot, but Ted always seemed to be the worst of the bunch. A transparently drunk, fat and old, bozo with none of the charm of his STD-ridden older brother Jack, to me Teddy was always a symbol for everything that was wrong with liberal politics.
That a man whose entire life was built on a sense of entitlement would be the advocate for every senseless spending program under the sun shouldn’t really surprise everyone. That he became a punching bag for right wingers even less so.
But picking on Teddy for his shortcomings is like shooting fish in a barrel. More often than not conservative criticism of Kennedy was about picking an easy target and firing away in order to deflect attention from the Right’s own bizarre political fetishism. This got particularly bad in the Faux News era where the Senate’s “Lion” became the tool by which all other Democratic politicians were bludgeoned to smithereens. “More liberal than Ted Kennedy” became a meaningless stock talking point for Sean Hannity and friends with “more liberal” often being used as a euphemism for “opposes the needless mass murder of Arab children.”
I don’t take joy in Teddy’s death, but I don’t have to think twice about saying that the world is a better place with one less grimy politician. Still, may he rest in peace. The gasbags and GOP shills will have to settle for Nancy Pelosi from here on out.

Ted (http://www.takimag.com/sniperstower/article/ted/)
by Richard Spencer (http://www.takimag.com/blogs/RichardSpencer) on August 26, 2009

I don’t have anything nice to say about Ted Kennedy, a man who’ll be most remembered for his disgusting and infantile personal conduct and who did as much as any American politician to destroy the country his forefathers immigrated to with his various social programs and sponsorship of the 1965 Immigration Act. The only thing I kinda liked about “Teddy” was that he made feminists and other assorted Leftists frightfully nauseated when they were obliged to praise this “Liberal Lion” as their champion, while knowing in their guts that he ultimately thought all women were disposable sex dolls. He served other useful purposes as well. After 50 years of the media depicting the Kennedy Clan as an embodiment of aristocratic virtue and charm, the vulgar and dim-witted Teddy stood as a constant reminder to many of what the Establishment really is.
Steve Sailer (http://isteve.blogspot.com/2009/08/ted-kennedy-rip.html):

Sen. Kennedy sponsored both the 1965 immigration act and the 1990 act that created the absurd diversity immigration lottery. The irony is that Kennedy intended both laws to bring more Irishmen to America to vote for Kennedys. The two laws largely failed at that, but had remarkable unintended consequences.
And here’s Peter Brimelow (http://blog.vdare.com/archives/2006/04/12/1098/) back in 2006 (ht: Patrick Cleburne (http://blog.vdare.com/archives/2009/08/26/senator-edward-kennedy-a-disaster-for-his-country/)):

Very few Senators heavily involved in passing a major piece of social legislation are still in the Senate forty years later when the subject comes up again. And absolutely none has looked as spectacularly foolish about it as Senator Edward Kennedy. As floor manager of the 1965 Immigration Act Kennedy assured the country
“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same… Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset…. Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia….
“In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.”
Every one of Senator Kennedy’s assurances proved false—yet he has never apparently felt the need to explain, much less apologize, for his grotesque inaccuracy.

I could be wrong, but it could possibly be that Kennedy knew that the opposite would happen, but had to pander to those who wouldn't vote for the bill otherwise. It might also explain why he never felt the need to backtrack.

As well, feminists may not have liked him, but it seems like he supported gay-rights legislation, as he voted against DOMA.

No, as I said earlier, I hated Kennedy when I was voting for Clinton, and Gore. I don't like him because he left a woman to die because he was a coward, and for the rest of his life never admitted his cowardice...and he never quit drinking either.

Un
Re
Deemed

Still the bloated coward he was on that night when that woman died.

He was not sorry for what he did, ever, only happy that he got away with it with no consequences, she was not important, her death was just an obstacle to be dodged.

His political career was not more important than this woman's life, and the fact that not only he, then(which is why she died) and now, and other lowlife dehumanizing scum like yourself, think it was...gives me ample reason to celebrate this fucking scumbag's death.

And I don't listen to talk radio or watch the news except during Presidential elections. My mind is completely free of all media mind control and my opinions are based entirely upon my own knowledge and research.

He never quit drinking. That tells you how sorry he was about it.

If he was a Republican I'd hate him just as much. It's the person I hate and am trashing in this thread...I haven't said jack shit about his fucking political views, only the politics of those defending him, because that is why they are defending him...read the thread again.

I've haven't read a political stance of Ted Kennedy's in years, his politcal views don't matter, only the fact that he's a scumbag and died every bit the drunken fucking cowardly scumbag he was that night.

For all I know Ted Kennedy was against the Iraq pullout...I honestly I don't know, and I honestly don't care. It makes no difference.

The only concern I've had with Mr. Kennedy, is why it was taking his fucking ass so long to fucking die.

He is nothing but a fat decadent above the people silver spoon fratboy politician, the absolute lowest element of American politics.

Every bit the silver spoon Bush was..and a coward to boot.

This is Classic bound.

For the record, I never understood the reverence for recently deceased people. Mourning or sadness or whatever are for yourself, not for the deceased. Its a selfish emotion used by you to cope with your loss, not theirs.

When my dad died young, I cried once. I knew it was for me, for selfish reasons, I did it anyway. After that, done. Carried the casket, shoveled the dirt, bing bang boom, done.

If you believe there is judgment after this, then rest assured in that faith.

If you do not, well good ol' Ted got away with manslaughter and laughed his way through 40 years of public service. He got to fuck more fine women than you can name, had a President for a brother, had more than his share of sitting Presidents kiss his fat-ass and praise his "achievements" when it was politically expedient to do so and has the current President presiding over his funeral. He was rich, successful, ugly, twisted and completely devoid of anything that could be considered moral character.

But the best part is, for him anyway, he's still laughing his ass off. He suckered a nation for almost 50 years on the exclusivity of his name and his name alone (which only grew to its current heights on the backs of his two brothers being killed).

He rode coattails from beginning to end, somehow convincing other powerful people that his opinion and blessing actually were worth something more than they were.

I dont know whether to hate him or envy him for his pure, selfish pursuit of absolute power. Because I completely lack the faculties to give two shits about humanity or its individual members on a micro scale.

This guy should have the wrote the book on "How to Make Something from Nothing at the Expense of All Those Around You".

Eh, I disagree DR. I'm not a big fan of the guy, but he did seem to do some good things (brokering peace with Ireland, SCHIP, immigration bill). Of course, no one has any idea if he did it out of some sense of morality or merely to further his political career.
