View Full Version : Xbox 360 Price drop
http://www.pcworld.com/article/170897/microsoft_pronounces_xbox_360_price_cut_official.h tml/
Here's the breakdown:
$299.99 - Xbox 360 Elite (was $399.99)
$249.99 - Xbox 360 Pro (was $299.99) *
$199.99 - Xbox 360 Arcade (was $199.99)
* While supplies last. The Pro is (officially) no longer being produced.
"m$" continues to be competitive. I read in the newest issue of GI that despite an overall 50% failure rate, less than 4% of users would "never buy an xbox console again." I can't remember now nor find the issue for some reason, but I'm pretty sure it was actually LESS than the amount of people who said they'd never buy another ps/nintendo console again because of hardware issues.
Looks like people really love their xboxes, yet Microsoft is delivering to the doubtful with competitive pricing.

I bought a used 360 that lasted for a year until a few weeks ago it Red Ringed. The only reason I'd buy another one is because I don't want to start over with the PS3 when I already have quite a few games for my 360 (not to mention the Live games).
I'm not sure yet if I'm going to replace it but if the Spring 09 bundle with Halo 3 and Fable II is $299, that might be too damn good of a deal to pass up.

My Xbox got the red ring of death on Saturday, and a friend came over and did a trick and about 45 minutes later it worked. What he did was he turned on the Xbox, and wrapped a towel around it. He then left it on for 30 minutes. After those 30 minutes he turned it off and turned it back on and it worked. I haven't had a problem with it yet. However, I also got Microsoft to send me the shipping material to send it in to get fixed. My warranty was already over, but my charge was $0.

The first XBOX 360 i had (a broken RROD one a repaired) died after 6 months. My Microsoft replaced XBOX 360 I've had since February 2008 is still going strong. I think they added another heatsink in newer models.

they took out the HDMI cords in the price dropped elites btw
on my tv with my xbox, I prefer the RCA cable as opposed to the HDMI. I own an HDMI as well but it just didn't look as good to me.

I had the same problem, the thing is that if you have the 3 Red Rings , they will fix it for free.

Yeah mine had the 3 Red Rings. I've had it for a year and a half, and I bought it used so who knows how long the other people had it. I bought this one because my first one after 3 years finally crapped out. It's all good.

I love when people bring up the RRoD to try and bring down the console. It took 2 years for my Elite to Red Ring and only 2 1/2 weeks for MS to fix it and send it back. 14 days without a console is worth it when the time you do get with it is better than any other system out there. Yeah so they fucked up and made a few million manufacturing errors, it's a small price to pay for a system that is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to content and interface

But it does bring down the console. You shouldn't have to go without your console for 2 weeks because Microsoft was too fucking stupid and lazy to fix a problem they knew about for a good year, but tried to sweep under the rug.
That being said, I'm satisfied with my XBOX 360, and will get a PS3 eventually.

If BluRays ever get to the point where they are as cheap as DVD's are now then I'd probably consider buying a used PS3 in order to watch movies. For games though forget it. That controller feels too much like it was made for little girl hands for my liking.

Bluray players are getting cheap enough that it doesn't make sense to watch them on a gaming system anymore, especially one you didn't actually like playing games on. I picked up a floor model bluray player for 120 bucks at best buy last week.
