True, I make my own greatest hits mixes but I have to agree on that first U2. I hate all new U2.

Just as Radiohead is probably the most overrated underrated band in the history of music

did someone really just say the eagles' greatest hits is underrated? 1971-75 has sold over 40 million copies. If I'm not mistaken, its the best selling album in American history.

R.E.M.'s Eponymous is a great sampler of their early stuff, and even includes improved versions of "Radio Free Europe" and "Gardening at Night." Highly recommended.

That shit is terrible. It's like they went out of their way to get their way to get the songs nobody likes. I hope nobody in the band had anything to do with that.

I was gonna add Hot Rocks '64-'71, but it isn't really under-appreciated, I guess.

Come Dancing with the Kinks is an unsung gem covering the less-cool post-Pye years. Lots of great songs in there.

Sparks' Best Of Sparks was a good one, too.

And Serge Gainsbourg's Coleur Cafe and Comic Strip are both awesome comps.

Best: U2 - "1980-1990" - Disgustingly full of great music, including U2's best song, "Bad"

Most Underrated: Styx - "Greatest Hits" - Guilty pleasure of mine

Very best of Fleetwood Mac (disc one)

Best of Candlebox

My 2 cents on U2 post Joshua Tree:
U2's "Achtung Baby" was just as brilliant as "Joshua Tree."
"Zooropa" was highly underrated, "All that u can't..." has its moments but yeah, the rest is garbage.

greatest hits are good and all that, but i don't care for them that much. the cuts on them are never from the original recording. they're all done differently. either edited down or they beef up the rhythm track or backing vox. one thing i do like is sometimes they have live, rare, or new tracks on them.

"U2 1980-1990" is probably my favorite.

That's just wrong - U2 albums in the 80s shouldn't be condensed into a greatest hits album, they were complete albums that deserve to be listened to with their integrity intact.

U2 was great until The Joshua Tree, everything after that is horrible.

True, I make my own greatest hits mixes but I have to agree on that first U2. I hate all new U2.

I couldn't disagree more. Rattle and Hum (American blues), Achtung Baby (German electro goth rock), Zooropa (U2's DSOTM) and Pop (a reaction against Pop) show incredible musical diversity, and each one of those albums is genius IMHO.

Sounds to me like you guys are electronica haters, whereas I think U2's diversion into electronic-influenced progressive rock was incredible. Listen to Zooropa again and tell me it isn't one of the great dystopian soundscapes of all time. ;)

the worst greatest hits album

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EpC1K6KZzNA/SFlnnHdzN3I/AAAAAAAAN2U/DZANtHzKrDc/s400/radiohead-greatest_hits.jpg

Yup, condensing Radiohead into a greatest hit package goes against the very ethic of their music IMHO. I spit on that shit! :ihit

My nomination is this:

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z21/rainbowloumoo/47fd28144d9a7.jpg

because Blur packed their albums with a lot of crap, which makes it hard to listen to them all the way through, although it should have Death of a party on it too.

Also, Billy Joel's Greatest Hits is awesome (although it should include Streetlife Serenader), as is Elton John's Greatest Hits. I grew up listening to those guys with my father.

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) by Wu-Tang Clan

I know neither of my entries are "greatest hits" compilations but the albums are underrated and virtually every song on them is great.

isn't it funny how you see the word 'underrated' yet automatically know most people will toss out shit that is clearly well known and not underrated in any way?

I was looking more at the "best" description, rather than the "most underrated" one.

So you would like their music if they said South Lincoln, Nebraska?

I am not kidding, you two are the first people who I have heard of who have anything less than compliments to say about journey. My only problem with them is I am that guy who sings along with every song, and I am decent at singing. I am, however, not decent at singing Journey, just can't do the voice. Also the reason I wont do Led Zepplin, or Soundgarden at Karaoke.
