DJ A.M. has passed away, PerezHilton.com has confirmed.

Born Adam Goldstein, he formerly was engaged to Nicole Richie and miraculously escaped a plane crash last year.

His body was discovered by the New York Police Department at his apartment in NYC on Friday.

No further details are known at this time.

Update: The New York Post is reporting that drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment.

So sad!!!!

The DJ had seemingly overcome his addiction to drugs and was even recently working on an MTV show to help young people get sober.

We truly are so incredibly sad right now. Adam was a friend and even spun at our birthday party two years ago.

The only thing we can think of is that his traumatic plane crash scarred him worse than anyone knew.

So sad.

Update #2: On August 25th, in what would now be his last public communication, DJ AM wrote on his Twitter, "New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems."

Wow, I was ready to come in here and slam the dude for suing the family estates of the pilots that died in the plane crash, but everyone else seems to be shitting on him already.

I can't name a single song this dude contributed to my life's soundtrack. Apparently he became a socialite musician after gastric bypass surgery. BUT...he said this and so maybe I wonder if there was more to him than is apparent to most of us that clearly didn't give a shit what he's done:


"There's no reason why I should have lived or why I lived and they didn't," DJ AM said at press tour about the plane crash. "But I am alive and I'm here and I have to do something better with my life now ... I struggled for years as a drug addict and was fortunate to get help when I asked for it. I have managed to live a clean and sober life, something that takes work and something that I pride myself on.

Sucks that he died, but I have no clue at all who this dude is. I heard of him the first time after that plane crash was news-worthy, but still never figured out why he should be known to me.

Did Sound, Light, and Video for him at a club once, asshole to work with. Dude treated everyone like it was below him to shake hands or be polite to anybody other than his manager. World is better off without dickheads like him. Dude was a badass DJ though
