Final Fantasy 7
Resident Evil 1 and 2

I played a lot of Star Wars Xwing over dial up against 2 of my friends, that shit was fun. We also did a lot of Aliens Vs Pred

I would love to go back and play those on cable.

goldeneye64 was good if you get use to it, i kept on gettin headspins from that even fps games like duke nukem, doom.....

mario 1 was a bit confusing also when u get to the final stage castle, didnt know which drain to go down into and wrong drain takes you back to the beginning lmao...

another one on the nes was street gangs, get to the final stage, door wont open to fight boss, must be a glitch or someshit....

you mean, the entire decade?

i was born in '88 so this would be one of those "deep breath...." types of responses (the 90's included most NES games I played as well) but i'll just leave it at all the original mario bros, wolfenstein 3d/doom, the dragon warriors, the final fantasies (all of the above for both), all the zeldas.... fuck i'm just gonna stop right there. video games have been like crack for me since day 1

same with crime fighters, stupid shit final stage all the bosses are out and about on the streets and you have to defeat them all, defeating one per stage was already hard enough let alone killing all

another game i played on a apple or commodore64 was some RPG game was very hard to beat, similar to castlevania...

all those retro games from the 80-90s rock...golden axe, etc

i was buzy with ninja gaidens, while friend always wanted to play wonderboy, and now i know why, queer ....

Never got into old RPGs. My first RPG was Dragon Quest.

Fucking hated it, hated the genre, hated everything about it. I remember me and my buddy were all geeked to go rent a game and play it all night...we chose Dragon Quest. Watching little avaters running around like a giant game of Snake with random encounters and totally imba bosses.

I was pissed to all high hell.

Swore them off at that point.

Then FF7 happened to the world, the genre is far better for it. Now I almost exclusively play RPGs.

I am actually in the midst of beating Last Remnant (one of SquareE's less than popular titles). Good game, albeit watered down and completely out of your control.

The Hive had to be one of the most difficult games I ever played. It was so much fun. The music was great, the graphics were great, but it was just so hard. It took 3 years to get past the 3rd level. After 6 years, nobody I knew ever did actually beat it.

Rebel Assault 2 was hard, to a point. But once I got past the Millennium Falcon level, it was a breeze.

Flashback was impossible. But I think it had a glitch in the game.

Syndicate Wars also seemed to have a glitch in the 7th or 8th level that made it impossible to advance.

While it is an 80's game, I never could beat Mario Brothers 1. I beat the lost levels and 2, 3, world, and RPG. But I could never even get to the 7th world in MB1.

I remember being 9-10 years old, playing this game and really trippin out. I recall you'd travel to Mars and some alien machine would attack you or something like that, but you had no weapons..? feel like DLing it now. The puzzles in this game were pretty difficult too.

A couple of my own contributions: Goldeneye was the first 3D FPS I played and after already playing tons of Doom, it dawned on me that I was going to be wasting many years of my life with the genre. The zeldas were another huge part of my 90's, as well as the Final Fantasy's. I played and beat 2 of the Dragon Quest games but always considered FF a superior franchise.

Oh man...

I started console gaming when I was like 4 years old back in the 80's, with the Atari 2600. I had games like ET (OMFG) and Adventure.....

kept console gaming in the 90's with Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, N64.. then i moved to PC gaming around 1997.

I started playing Battlecity, NexusTK : The Kingdom of the Winds (one of first MMORPG's), ARC (attack retrieve capture), Warcraft 2, Age of Empires, QUAKE.. Starcraft....

To this day, the best online time I ever had was Quake. What an amazing game, I loved Quake CTF.

Now that I think of it, the ONLY game that has come close to replicate Quake's greatness at CTF is Team Fortress 2....

now that I think of it

why isn't there any fucking game out on Xbox 360 and Ps3 that is solely focused on amazing multiplayer?

Call of Duty games have Capture the flag, but the game is not really suited for it.

Halo games have capture the flag, but again, it feels bulky and not suited for it.

Call of Duty also has Counter-Strike style fun with Search and Destroy, but again, it's not nearly as fun as it is playing Counter-Strike. "HEADSHOT" ..."DDDDDOOMINATING"......... "SOMEBODY SET UP US THE BOMB"....

plus the maps were fucking awesome. de_dust and de_dust2, cs_assault....

why the fuck are the maps on Modern Warfare 2 so lame in comparison? there are no secret entrances, no air condition vents to crawl through...

The maps aren't even good for Capture the flag. Quake CTF was fucking amazing... and also, Quake CTF with Runes....

We need a game that brings back old school. this is bullshit

Dude that game was ahead of its time. some people just don't appreciate good fast moving graphics and action. You could get mentally and physically addicted to the game as you try to complete each level. I still have lines on the side of my face from squinting, and my wrist and back will never be the same.

Also Thief II the metal age is underrated.

http://www.empireonline.com/images/features/100greatestgames/stills/88.jpg

That game had many secrets and hidden rooms, you need to be stealth like Splinter cell and you had to know how to use a bow and arrow. You stole shit and each level was like a whole new game. I talk to many people who gave up on the game and didn't find it fun because they don't want to take time and learn it, they rather just hurry up and kill something.

That game is on my top 5 list easy along with Riven.

R-Type and Super R-Type were awesome. I don't know if I had any trouble beating them, but I can't remember. Also, Altered Beast and the Arcade version Shinobi were difficult to beat for me.

That flippin game got on my flippin nerves! First off you need to be born with two extra fingers on each hand, second you stand there getting blisters on your fingers trying to fight while some punk ass 14 year old kid who knows all the codes pulls out some sort of magic power and kicks your ass.

I was pretty dominant in MK2 and decent in Killer Instinct as a youngster lol. I do agree pulling off some of those combos in KI were rather hard, but once you got used to 'em, they were like repetition. Kilgore and Cinder were two of the easiest to master...

I like when they keep the games simple, Original SIMS, Tides of War,Quake II,and Delta force, I hate when they try to make the game better and it losses its originality. As far as the arcade games anyone remember Defender?

I loved MK2. There was one move you could do with Kitana... it was something like
1) Land a jump kick
2) Quickly raise the opponent into the air with your fan
3) Uppercut
4) Do some fucking flying punch before they hit the ground after your uppercut

It depleted half the opponent's health bar, and all it really required was him letting you get a jump-kick in to begin it.

Then cut their fucking head off when it was time to finish.

Or maybe you threw your fan immediately when the jump kick landed, and then lifted them up with the fan. Crap, I forgot.

Twisted Metal 2 was the first game that I ever had for the original Playstation and I set out to beat it with all the characters. That fucking Grasshopper dune buggy piece of shit was the worst fucking car ever, but I finally did it.

I still remember every move and one fatality for SubZero (i think).

I played MK2 a while back and fell right into a groove not two fights in. Freeze, slide kick, freeze ground...I only remembered the one fatality though (decap).

I used to know the Friendships, Babalities and second Fatality. Not anymore.

I used to love the glitch where you could do a fatality and do the character's friendship after the fatality. That game was pretty fun to play in the arcade. There was one time in Vegas, while I was underage, I had stayed on one quarter for almost six hours at the Circus Circus arcade. I was pretty good with Kung Lao and Mileena.

Twisted Metal 2

I was always Spectre.

I spent more time playing SF2 in the arcade than at home by far (same with MK2). Samurai Showdown was another game I used to play a lot, but it was always more solo. It was at the pizza joint I was "gainfully" employed at.

"Ena, shin zo ni!

Phonetically anyway.

Ya, freezing the ground on a downed opponent was always cheap by their standards. If you think about it, no other character had a move like it except the Green Ninja with his jelly-goop shit (Reptile?).

Was it just me, or for that time, was there a more satisfying move in a game than the MK2 uppercut?

The impact, the sound, the knockback, the blood and the total helplessness of your opponent during and after. Good thing everyone had it.

Now, as for high roundhouse kicks, Kung Lao was a bastard.

There was a juggle with Reptile that was very under-utilized. You would do the acid glop, jump high punch, disappear come behind the guy and if you timed it right you could uppercut him and acid spit him into the same combo. Most people never really used Reptile, but he had some hidden quality. I just think they made him way too slow for a reptile.

Naw man, I just played this game religiously. In fact, I even created my own strategy guide that I made by hand for anyone who wanted it. I don't know why I fell in love with MK2, but it probably had something to do with just being pretty good at it. Funny thing is--I was way better @ MK3 than MK2.

I fucking loved that game, never beat it though. Probably my favorite video game memory as a kid was playing that. When we came across those giant earthworm things for the first time they tore me and my brother up pretty bad and we wasted a lot of ammo trying in vain to hit them. With all projectiles exhausted, my partner down, and one health bar left I made a last desperate charge on the final Tremor rip-off and killed the fucker with a weed whacker.
