View Full Version : College Football: Week 1 (Prediction Contest)

We need to get a vbookie going!!

Anyway here's an idea. Each week I (and maybe some help) will post a list of games and whoever wants easy bragging rights or for fun can reply and pick their own winner from each game.

Somewhat like how vbookie is locked after the start of a game or right before it, as will the thread and those predictions at a certain time each week. As the college football season progresses I can post the leaders after each week so we can see how we rank up.

I think we could petition for the winner being awarded a Spur under their user name and or perhaps a prize of some sort. I know of other larger forums doing this and it looks like perhaps there is potential for it here.

I will post a list of big games, random conference games, and a couple small conference games to mix things up a bit. My personal predictions will be in bold.

LSU @ Washington
Maryland @ Cal
South Carolina @ NC State
Miami @ Florida State
Georgia @ Oklahoma State
Oregon @ Boise State
Virginia Tech VS Alabama IN ATLANTA
Utah State @ Utah
BYU VS Oklahoma (neutral location I just don't know where)
Stanford @ Washington State
Colorado State @ Colorado
Baylor @ Wake Forest
Minnesota @ Syracuse
Missouri @ Illinois
Cincinnati @ Rutgers

Thoughts or ideas?

LSU @ Washington=LSU
Maryland @ Cal=Cal
South Carolina @ NC State=USC
Miami @ Florida State=Miami
Georgia @ Oklahoma State=UGA
Oregon @ Boise State=Oregon
Virginia Tech VS Alabama IN ATLANTA=Va Tech
Utah State @ Utah=Utah
BYU VS Oklahoma (neutral location I just don't know where)=OU
Stanford @ Washington State=Stanford
Colorado State @ Colorado=Colorado
Baylor @ Wake Forest=Wake
Minnesota @ Syracuse=Syracuse
Missouri @ Illinois=Illinois
Cincinnati @ Rutgers=Cincy

There ya go Brutalis, my picks in Italics. Need some sort of scoring system and you're good. Mix the scoring system up by putting in a game of the week and awarding more points for that particular game. IMO that game would be Va Tech/Bama.

oregon needs to pound boise state...but i'd settle for them winning. game is important for two reasons.

1) oregon can eliminate boise state from ridiculous conversations of them and the BCS

2) Pac-10 is a good conference...can't afford to lose this game

Brutalis I think we should just go week-by-week picking winners

1 point for 1 correct pick

make sure the picks are in previous to the entire week

then at the end of the season we will ask if its cool for the winner to have a spur for being top picker...i guess what i'm saying is I agree with your idea

ouch, looks like 3 of the 4 of you who made picks have OSU beating Georgia, with the one being an Auburn fan. lol...I'll make my picks soon.

the sad thing is that I agree and think OSU will win. :(

It will really be a great start to the season if UGA can pull it out. It could be a pretty good season with a W in a very challenging road game to begin the year.

I'm on the fence with this. 3 points may be a bit too much.

We need more input from others.

Also when the season gets juicy, there will be all kinds of arguments over which game is the game of the week

Well I assume the game of the week would be decided by where college gameday goes, except on those rare occasions they decide to visit a DIII rivalry game.

Maybe Kori can set up a vbookie log for everyone's win/loss record on spread college football bets we already normally do

then whoever has most wins in those bets is the champ

I think it would just be easier to keep each game at 1 point. I understand the concept of wanting a game of the week and all, but my 2 cents is each game should count the same.

Boise State is gonna trounce Oregon.

You know I am thinking the same thing only because if you look at the line movement. Most of the betting money has gone on Oregon.

The line opened at bsu-6 or 5.5 depending where you look it is now bsu-4

Normally for every .5 point a line moves is a million more dollars that went the other way.

now some books have been know to move there lines around just to fuck with betters, but for the looks of all the line movement all the money is on Oregon and if they were to cover or win out right than Vegas would take a small bath.

The books don't lose like that very often, so I may lay 2 bucks on bsu.

Get a thread pinned for the leader boards that can be edited weekly for updates somehow?

down for whatever ideas

Once we hit bowl games that's when I think we should make games worth 2 points or more. That ensures no tie. Or if we have a good number at the top have a playoff.. but I'm thinking way ahead

I can log the picks and make a thread for the results considering this idea came late
