By John Whisler - Express-News World Extreme Cagefighting is coming to San Antonio.

The WEC, sister company of professional mixed martial arts goliath Ultimate Fighting Championship, plans to bring a 10-bout card to the AT&T Center on Oct. 10.

“We're very excited about it,” WEC general manager Reed Harris said. “We've been trying to come to San Antonio for a couple of years, but we never could find a date.”

The card will feature top-ranked contenders Donald Cerrone (10-1) and Ben Henderson (9-1) fighting for the interim lightweight title.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday in Youngstown, Ohio, the card was postponed after Henderson suffered an injury.

The WEC tried to reschedule it, but Harris said the Covelli Center in Youngstown was not available Oct. 10.

When the WEC began looking for an alternate site, Harris said San Antonio was one of the first cities that came up.

The main event and three undercard bouts will be televised live nationally on Versus beginning at 9 p.m.

Tickets for the event — priced at $25, $45, $75 and $125 — will go on sale Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at the AT&T Center box office, all Ticketmaster locations, or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Tickets also are available online at ticketmaster.com or wec.tv.

At least I won't have to fly to Dallas or Vegas. It should be decent enough, better than the local shows here. Those are still entertaining fights -- don't get me wrong.

125 for ringside. Of course, this is the WEC and not the UFC and no big names like Pulver or Urijah. Dallas was 425 or 450 for ringside. Don't even ask how much it was for UFC 100.

It's been great watching him in the mfc...but tonight he got far too much credit for those amazing escapes

Holy crap, what an amazing main event fight. I was mostly unfamiliar with both guys, but they brought it tonight and win/lose they deserve all the praise they get.

I was rooting for Henderson after the 2nd round, but Cerrone came back and I was rooting for both but wanted Henderson to win because his submission escapes were freakish and he seemed to push the fight most of the time. Cerrone knew at the end it probably wasn't going to end in his favor, but he deserves a re-match when Henderson unifies the belts.

I thought Ben won the first three rounds, and Cerrone, the last two. However, I think Donald couldve had a 10-8 on the 4th or 5th rounds. Good fight though, and I can see the decision.

Donald won the first round.. Put up subs like crazy the whole round. Ben won about the last 30-45 seconds of the first.

I concur. 48-47 cerrone. people were booing at the decision, then again they booed at every stalled action.

Ha Cerrone thinks Ben won too...Probably just being nice but here are a few quotes from him.

- Donald Cerrone spoke after last night's WEC 43 event, here are some highlights…

On Who Won The Fight: "I think [Henderson] won the fight. Some people will say it might have gone the other way, but he definitely won the fight."

On Trapping Henderson In Submissions: "The guillotine, I felt him gargling one time," Cerrone said. "But that son of a bitch just kept holding on. Then one time I felt like he was knocked out on top of me. I was looking at the ref like, 'What?' But [Henderson] just kept coming around."

Giving Henderson His Respect: "Ben is a hell of a fighter," Cerrone said. "A couple of spots I thought I had him, but he just kept going. I got karate chopped in my throat in the first round, but no excuses. I take my hat off to the guy. He did what he had to do, and hell, it was a great fight. I'm ready to do it again anytime he's ready."

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but when he was complaining to the ref when Ben was on top, Cerrone thought he was out. It's when Ben was standing in his guard and then Cerrone was throwing punches from the bottom that were rocking him. He looked out when he fell to his chest, but was able to spin and hold on. I forgot to record it before I left to go to the arena, so I haven't gone back and watched it.

I saw that on the replay, and I thought it might have been an illegal blow since it didn't look like anything happened that I could see from the angles. The commentators played it back and weren't sure what was wrong either, but Cerrone was definitely sure something happened cuz he was waving for a good couple of seconds trying to get the ref's attention.
