View Full Version : Is King Lebron James the GREATEST athlete ever to not win a pro championship?

fevertrees

Without a doubt he is. If Michael Jordan had the team Savior Lebron had, he never would have made the playoffs. :lol Give Lebron the supporting cast at the same level of Jordan and Bryant, and the King would win 10 championships in a row. :lobt:

Kobe has 4 rings

son that is true, but in order for him to be considered one of the greatest then he needed to win at least one as the leader of the team.....

anyone in their right mind could see that Shaq basically single handedly won Kobe's first 3 rings for him (with Kobe being a minor role player at the time) ... at least Kobe finally got that monkey off of his back and won his first championship last season as a "Co-Leader" with Gasol.

I would hardly calls 22-5-5 28-5-5 and then 25-5-5 a minor roll player. Anyone who does is stupid. And anyone with a Brain could tell that Gasol was the second option

Cept Kobe sealed off Portland in the 2000 playoffs,,,thusly saving himself and more importantly Daddy from a high tech lynching at the hands of Media they'd a never recovered from.

Yeah, Portland, they folded up like a cheap tent under the auspices of The Bryant. Yeah, Portland, that tlong's team. Yeah, Portland, the ones who have that 30-year-old-ring they like worship over. Yeah, Portland, like 1 & 30-something.

Hell he averaged 30/7/7 in the playoffs at the age of 21 or 22, and he was a defensive fiend back then too. He was probably the 3rd best player in the league behind duncan and shaq.

edit: to answer the question, not yet... but i dont see how he wouldn't be able to win 1... hes got about 5 more prime years left in him.

Wow, do you just walk into threads to hate on LeBron?

No athlete that's ever played in the modern era of sports is "definitely" more athletic than LeBron. So just stop with those kind of statements. He's easily one of the 5 most athletic players we've ever seen in the big 3 sports.

I like Lebron...but dude...no one was more athletic than Bo....period. When Lebron excels at 2 professional sports, give me a call. I don't like it when people tattoo "chosen one" on their back. I don't like it when they're called "King" when they have no crown. The guy is athletic, yes...but not as athletic as most halfbacks in the NFL...athleticism-wise, T.O. owns him. Barry Sanders owns him. Bo Jackson owns him. Michael Jordan owns him. Jim Thorpe owns him. Jim Brown owns him. There's a lot of things that come into play here. We're assuming that basketball is the most athletic sport. The OP said the GREATEST athlete to not win a championship...I could throw in soccer players (more athletic), hockey players (more athletic) like Marcell Dionne. I could go on and on.

Bo Jackson would absolutely be in the conversation and is absolutely athletically comparable if not more athletic than LeBron James. Not sure there has been a guy with the combination of size, speed, strength, and agility as Bo Jackson in the NFL. Bo ran a 4.12 40 in his NFL combines. How ridiculous is that? Probably not as accurate as it is now and maybe wind aided, but even so, that's utterly stupid.

At any rate, as others have said or suggested, not sure why this thread was started in the first place since LeBron is still only 24 years old and only 6 years into his career. This is a more appropriate question to ask after LeBron is retired or the very least towards the very tail end of his career.

Culburn369
09-03-2009, 11:16 AM
James is not as fluid, his game is not as smooth as I would prefer. He's physically seized up a might. He's "squares" the corners. He uncoils a bit on his moves. I believe his mind is ahead and "better" than his body, or, at least his mind & body are not quite in sync.

I agree with this 100%...I think the OP just made a mistake with this thread all together. If you want to count athleticism in all sports, there are a LOT of people more athletic overall than Lebron. I'd love to see Lebron play an entire soccer match and hang with Ronaldo...wouldn't happen. Lebron is a phenomenal athlete and probably the most athletic person in basketball today...but the most athletic person to not win a title? Not even close...

Cry Havoc
09-03-2009, 12:21 PM
I like Lebron...but dude...no one was more athletic than Bo....period. When Lebron excels at 2 professional sports, give me a call.

What does this have to do with how athletic he is? He's the best player in the NBA... why would he need to play another sport? But suit yourself:

James also played football during his high school years at St.Vincent-St. Mary's. In his sophomore year he was named first-team all-state as a wide receiver

His former coach Mark Murphy, who is in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, compares LeBron to Jerry Rice and Steve Largent.

LeBron also runs a 4.4 40. And if he focused on speed, he could probably get it down a tenth or maybe even two.

I don't like it when people tattoo "chosen one" on their back.

Wow, okay, so remind me what this has to do with athleticism? I guess a tattoo in your book makes him less dominant?

I don't like it when they're called "King" when they have no crown.

Ah. So now you're blaming LeBron for something the media has done. That's a pretty fair, unbiased take on it.

FYI, he's called King James because that's a version of the Bible. Apparently that's slipped your notice?

The guy is athletic, yes...but not as athletic as most halfbacks in the NFL...athleticism-wise, T.O. owns him.

:lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao

LeBron is 6'8" and can outjump T.O. on ANY given day. He's at LEAST as agile, unless you think it doesn't take the same kind of agility to cut and weave through the paint as it does to cut with cleats on a field.

Barry Sanders owns him. Bo Jackson owns him.

Barry and Bo might be as or slightly more athletic than James, but "owning" someone makes you sound like a 12 year old playing Halo.

Michael Jordan owns him.

Doubtful. Jordan excelled at the game because of fundamentals before athleticism.

Jim Thorpe owns him.

No.

Jim Brown owns him.

:lmao Okay. So because Jim Brown was a fast runner and played in a league where he was much larger than the average linebacker and only slightly smaller than the linemen, he's more athletic than LeBron. Oooookay.

There's a lot of things that come into play here. We're assuming that basketball is the most athletic sport. The OP said the GREATEST athlete to not win a championship...I could throw in soccer players (more athletic), hockey players (more athletic) like Marcell Dionne. I could go on and on.

How many of them are 6'8" with a 44 inch vertical who can also run a 4.4 40? You put most of those guys on a neutral playing field in a sport that neither they nor James has played, and he's going to make pastries out of almost all of them.

:lmao at T.O. owning LeBron in athleticism. Just stop. You lost all credibility with that statement. No, seriously, you don't belong in this discussion with those kinds of utterly silly statements.

At 5'8", Barry Sanders regularly literally broke the fingers of 6'5" 250-300lb men trying to tackle him. He also could get to top speed faster than anyone I've ever seen personally. He would drag multiple tacklers that weighed almost twice as much as he did with Jim Brown-like power from his 'tiny' frame.

Barry is a freak of nature and absolutely belongs in the discussion. Barry, Bo, Wilt, LeBron, and David Robinson is a pretty damn good list to start a discussion on "the 5 most athletically freaky players we have ever seen".

I'm skeptical of the 4.12, but Bo was incredible. He was a player you made up rules for using when playing the Tecmo and Tecmo Super Bowl games. :lol

I agree with this 100%...I think the OP just made a mistake with this thread all together. If you want to count athleticism in all sports, there are a LOT of people more athletic overall than Lebron.

Wrong.

I'd love to see Lebron play an entire soccer match and hang with Ronaldo...wouldn't happen.

OMG. So let me guess... if they were playing basketball Ronaldo would DUNK on LeBron all day too, right?

What a shocker... let me see Barry Sanders or Michael Jordan or Bo Jackson on their BEST day play a soccer match with one of the best futbol players of all-time. They would all get destroyed. Dude, do you realize that's why it's an unfair comparison? Any soccer player who's ever lived would get decimated by LeBron on a basketball court, but it's not a valid comparison because it's the primary sport of another player.
