FAIRFAX, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a car slammed into a deer, which then landed on top of an oncoming pickup truck, crushing the truck's cab and killing a 6-year-old boy.

The patrol says the bizarre accident happened at 7:26 a.m. Tuesday on state Highway 18 north of Fairfax.

According to the OHP report, a southbound car hit the deer and sent it airborne into an oncoming pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Rachel Nicole King of Fairfax. A passenger in King's truck — 6-year-old Jacob Wilson — was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from a head injury. King was in stable condition with an arm injury, and two other children in the pickup, ages 6 and 9, weren't injured.

The driver of the car that hit the deer also wasn't injured.

I guess this was God's plan?

No wonder I'm not happy with God right now. Slowly becoming agnostic.

My parents knew a couple that got taken out just like this about 15 years ago. A big rig smacked a deer into their oncoming car. The truck driver said the brake lights never came on. They were probably dead instantly when it came through the windshield at 100+ MPH, the combined speeds of the vehicles.

When we drove through West Texas and the Hill Country at night a couple of weeks ago coming down from CO, there were so many god damn deer out on the highways it was insane. I've never seen deer in those type of numbers approach the highways.

Does anyone know if this is drought related?

It's partially drought related and partially the fact that they mow the easements. The sunlight can get to the ground and new weeds sprout. The deer like the tender young vegetation. Out in the un-mowed pastures the old dead grass lays over blocking the sun and keeps the seeds from sprouting till later in the year.

deer will always be a part of the dangers on the highway. but people need to realize there are no guarantees about life. any one of us could be taken out at the most unexpected time. not the most comforting thought but one which should place the idea in our heads that nothing should be taken for granted.

Don't we have enough religion threads? God's plan? Shut up TLong...we all know you don't believe...so let's just place the blame where it belongs. It's Oden's fault.

I know right...I guess it would be hard to believe there's a god when all your heroes are criminals or cripples.

Ah I didn't know that. We nearly hit one and we saw dozens of carcasses and dozens of deer on the side. Crazy shit.

The last time we drove out to CA about 3 years ago, there were deer all over the side of I-10. We're driving out again this Christmas.

Do those deer horn things work?

I had the air whistle ones on a Honda about 15 years ago. I never saw deer run away when I came down the road. They did look up sometimes though!!!:lol

Apparently they have some electric ones out now. Good luck, & be safe on your trip!

Of course not. In times of stress I'll turn to anything. Nobody wants to feel helpless, although everyone is at some point.
