you see what people can do when they protest in large numbers. too bad parents can not be as activist minded about things that actually mattered when it comes to the education of our children.

It's a total bunch of horse shit. He's the President of the country we live in, I see nothing wrong with students watching a speech from their President.

I just mentioned this to my son, he goes to a NEISD school, and his reply was "we go to school to learn, not get brainwashed..."

yes, I have told him that obama is our president, even though we don't agree on many of his stances on things...

Good for NEISD, if people wanna hear it, they can and will. They shouldn't be forced to... this is after all, America

Apparently a speech consisting of "hey kids, read books and get good grades" is pushing a demonic socialist agenda.

Bubble Wrap Kids?? As apposed to the mindless socialist zombies breeding and raising mindless granola freaks? My apologies if I've offended the paranoid parents of kids who will be brainwashed on Tuesday. Let's hope they won't convert you when they get home from school.

Where was this option when I was in school? We watched Reagan/Bush I/Clinton and nobody said a thing. Now all the sudden we got Obama in office and we have to protect the kids from themselves, since they obviously can't watch our elected President and learn anything useful about staying in school. Which, btw, is a good idea.

I went to school in NEISD... I was thinking from a kids p.o.v., this is one of those things that if I was still going there, I'd be pissed. Thinking this is just NEISD tryin to keep us from having any fun and using up "class time" by watching a video, lol.

(like you don't watch pointless videos in school all the time)

The horror. You know how much kids listen to old people telling them that school is cool. Imagine how much has been lost with this decision! Now the kids won't have a one-hour sleep session and might have to actually do work.

Whitey doesn't like Obama talking to his kids. He's our President.

It's not like they're going to watch Flava Flav or some shit.

I was in high school (at an NEISD school) when 9/11 happened. The teachers didn't do any teaching all day and they wouldn't even turn on the television to let us see updates. The kids are very bubble wrapped.

I think it has alot more to do with a political agenda, than racism.

Here's what I got via e-mail:

Dear NEISD Parent/Guardian,

There has been quite a bit of media attention recently over President Obama’s address to school students on September 8, 2009. I am sending this message home to inform you about North East ISD’s position on this.

To avoid a disruption to the school day and loss of academic time, NEISD will provide the President's address for families to watch at home if they so choose. The district will tape the speech and provide a link through the district's Parent Portal.

The decision to record the speech and make it available on our Web site is for logistics and convenience purposes. I realize the highly-charged political environment is in the news, but quite frankly, many students will be at lunch, P.E. and other activities outside the classroom during the original broadcast.

Regardless of political party, adults should model respect for the office of the President of the United States.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

Sincerely,

Richard A. Middleton

Superintendent of Schools

Adults should model respect the way they are doing? Lame :rolleyes

Model as a verb in that context was a whacked choice of wording.

As if the schools never modify the schedule for just about any activity they want or kids are never pulled out of PE for assemblies or speakers. I'll remember this in a couple of weeks when all these kids get out at noon on Friday.

I wonder- what if your kid happens to be in social studies at that time. CAN the teacher put it on for her class or are they forbid?

I know, what a weenie. If you make a decision then own it, don't make up stupid excuses to try to hide that you are caving in to pressure. I'll be absolutely "modeling" my respect for Dr. Middleton!
