When does OSU realize that Tressel is a problem?
Maybe now...I really don't care for them anyway, though, so it doesn't matter to me.

What a game.

Tressel's ultra conservatism cost him again IMO.
Exactly...dude is afraid of his own shadow.

It's completely different. You root for your own conference because it helps your strength of schedule among other things. The better your conference is, the better the bowl game that you get is.

Wow!
First of all, MAJOR credit to Ohio State. Buckeye fan: you don't have a goddamn thing to be ashamed of tonight. That was more of a Trojan escape than a OSU loss, and I'm speaking as a long-time USC fan. Ohio State came to play tonight, and up until the last 2:00 or so, all Trojan haters had reason to celebrate. Somehow, however, USC managed to pull victory from the jaws of defeat, and hang on to win. I still can't believe it! As much as I dislike OSU, they played one hell of a game, and totally deserved to win. I'm glad that USC did actually win, but the fact remains that had they lost, it wouldn't have been due to a lack of intensity.
Buckeye fan: my hat is off to you!

It's completely different than how you'd root for your team over an NFL season. Last year UT's BCS rankings were off the charts because of their strength of schedule... almost every conference team they played had a top 25 ranking except Baylor and A&M. That's the sole reason when the week everyone knew OU was going to jump Texas came around that people were even hypothesizing whether or not Texas would hold. Had they played in the Big 12 North they would've been jumped by Bama.

They are good, but its far too early to say they are the best. Have you forgotten about Florida and Texas? :rolleyes I dont think anyone knows who the best really is right now. Way, way too early. Hell, without a playoff we may not know who the best is come January.

USC has to show a lot more than they did yesterday to be considered the best team in the nation. The defense is good, but the offense is the worst i've seen it in years, by Trojan standards anyway. It's early and they can still improve greatly, but come on, "by far the best team in the country"? LOL

I thought he was being sarcastic. Good gritty win and led by a QB in only his second game as a true freshman. So, they absolutely can get better. But, last night, USC proved they could have some problems scoring points, especially on the road. California could give them a tough time.

For most of the game, the USC O-line didn't look like one of the best in the country.

But, hey, I'm cool with the outcome because Suckeye fans would have started getting a big head and talk shit about Terrelle Pryor even more. I agree with those who say Tressel probably lost that game with his lack of aggressiveness more so than USC won that game. First with their first field goal being inside the 5 yard line on fourth down and then right before USC took the lead pooch punting the ball instead of going for the 50 yard field goal when they are supposed to have a stud field goal kicker.

I'd personally like to thank Terrelle Pryor for choosing tOSU.

Easily the most overrated player in the country.

And let's get off Barkley's jock. Great win for the young QB and he definitely showed a lot of poise, but bringing up his name along side Elway after one game? Talk about hyperbole.

hi there. i am very excited for next week...i want to see what that drive and win does for Barkley. i wasn't all that pleased for the majority of the game, but of course, he is a freshman. i expect USC to play much better on offense going forward.

I'm so tired of Tressel and his conservative gutless vanilla playcalling. His coaching has cost us too many games. Our players left it all on the field last night. I can't blame them. The difference between them and USC is coaching. They didn't stand a chance with a coach who would rather punt than kick a field goal so he can gain 10 yards of field position. It's not 1947 anymore. Running it up the gut for 2 yards, punting and hoping your defense bails you out doesn't work anymore. It might fly against shit Big Ten teams but the rest of the world isn't impressed. Pete Carroll puts his players in a position to succeed and takes advantage of their skill sets. Unlike Tressel he coaches to win instead of not to lose. At the very least JT needs to relinquish all play calling duties and we need to hire a real offensive coordinator with some creativity and some balls.

By far? Hardly. They may be the best....but not by much. Florida and Texas are better than Ohio State, on both sides of the ball, and would give them a hell of a game (if not beat them). Plus, Navy scored more points on Ohio State than USC did. Weakest offense they've had in a good while. Let's see if they can beat Cal first.

Come to Austin and watch Greg Davis' offense for 4 quarters. You'll be thankful you have Tressel. You're right though...I keep waiting for Ohio State to unleash Pryor and they won't do it. The dude is just simply not going to win games for them by staying in the pocket.

i have to agree. for once, it looked like OSUs defense has some speed on the outside but their defense was so fatigued from being out there so much with all the 3 and outs the buckeye defense was generating from the tressel's protect a 5 point lead playcalling. it was awful. usc had no problem running at the buckeyes in the last drive.

as for the trojans, they got a big win but they definitely showed that games on the road against cali and notre dame will not be easy wins.

Thunder Dan
09-14-2009, 10:11 AM
I think the perception of Ohio State' lack of speed and all of that is unwarranted as they should have won games vs both Texas last year and USC this year. I think it's more a problem of Tressel being outcoached. He is still good enough to beat Michigan every year, but I think the Buckeye nation is growing tired of these types of games. He is basically the complete opposite of John Cooper

as i said earlier, that game had an ohio state feel and tempo to it, but...it wasn't like USC's defense played poorly. they played well. i don't know that Tressel is all that much at blame here...the last drive came out of nowhere.

without a doubt, ohio state played well enough to win...and i thought the odds were in their favor on the third and 8.

when you have it first and goal twice from inside the 1, and you have a 6'6 QB who is bigger than the other team's linebackers, you run QB sneaks until you score. That cost the Buckeyes a total of 8 points, and the game. They tried getting cute with counter plays that took too long to develop and made USC's goaline defense look great. They should have run QB sneak after QB sneak and Pryor would have gotten in both times. Shit, the best defensive back in the country couldn't even bring him down, you don't think he could have gained a yard just by pushing forward? Tressel dropped the ball on that one, should have never come down to the last drive

i remember seeing Mays bring him down just fine, by himself. although, i know he got a little banged up early on. either way, making an open field tackle against a big athletic player is always tough. i know Galippo is bigger...though Smith might be a little smaller. Morgan looks about the same, though he's listed at 225.

by the way, lets not forget ohio state was dominating field position the entire second half...i think it was smart to pin USC deep, with a freshman QB (when the ohio state D had been playing well), so late in the game it was basically a last drive attempt.

i know ohio state fan will probably see it differently, perhaps spin it another way blaming Tressel...thats natural. Tressel didn't call as poor a game as some think, imo...lest we forget USC made their own mistakes and missed a field goal, bouncing off the crossbar.

ROFL!!!! By barely beating OSU in a down year? If you notice, they listed Sanzenbacher(a white, undersized receiver) as one of their impact players. Their entire defense went to the NFL. Granted, they won on the road, but still. This is hardly the best team in the country. Florida is easily, easily better. Many, many other teams are capable of beating USC as well. Barkley looked like I imagined he would, nervous and incapable of making big time throws. McKnight and Tressell's play-calling won them that game.

did you laugh when Anthony Gonzalez was listed as an impact player? He is white

Thunder Dan
09-14-2009, 01:06 PM
Echo this statement COMPLETELY. Well, I would have liked him to go to PSU as a receiver, something like that. He doesn't have what it takes to make throws.

Overall, the game was perfect in the eyes of a PSU fan. Ohio State gets owned in the rankings, and probably loses some edge/steam. The Big 10 gains credibility(media sucks USC's dicks) by basically losing the game instead of USC winning it.

Penn State is only a factor once or twice each decade, then their fans come out of the woodworks for a couple years, then right back soon after. Penn State is a second class program and can't recruit on a high enough level to be good every year and not have down years where .500 ball is expected. If they were indeed a power, all of PA's recruits wouldn't come to Ohio to play for the Buckeyes (of which 5 in the last 2 years have: Bell, Brown, Pryor, Sweat, Hall)
