nope they get the pac 10 runner up

The Valero Alamo Bowl announced today a partnership with the Pac-10 Conference whereby the conference's first selection after the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) selection (the second pick overall) will participate in the Valero Alamo Bowl games following the 2010-2013 seasons. The Pac-10 will face a Big 12 opponent in the game.

"following the 2010 season"... this is the 2009 season so they don't play the Pac-10 runner up untill next year.

If Bradford gets back by conference play, it's very possible they run the table. I wouldn't count them out of the national title hunt just yet, especially if they beat Texas and Oklahoma State (in Norman) and then win the Big XII. Extremely premature prediction...I say no worse than the Cotton Bowl.

if the o-line plays the way it did than they could fall to the hoilday but i don't see them falling all the way to the alamo bowl, It would also ruin the bowl trip vaction me and the wife take every year since there would be no reson to leave town.

Well, while all the Texas peeps want to continually celebrate the demise of uo, TFloss does bring up an important point - they are still undefeated in B12 play.

CRC, I like how you didn't make fun of my post until after this weekend's loss to Miami. Way to play it safe! Regardless, OU's conference record will determine their bowl.

OU could finish with 5 losses easy, texas, kansas, tech, ok state

their two wins are against tulsa and idaho state, for them to be ranked right now is a bigger sham than the entire bcs system

they would love OU because it would be a sale out....the Sooners are not very good right now but still have a great fallowing and will generate good tv ratings

Wow, spell check.

Unfortunately the ticket sales would be nothing like when UT was in it a couple years back.

I don't know. Maybe they'd take Tech. Tech fans would probably be more excited about this bowl than OU fans. OU is used to playing in BCS games and for the National Title. Tech is used to playing in the 2nd tier bowl games and for relevancy. But I don't really know the ratings or sales figures for things like that, so I'm just throwing it out there as a thought. I'm sure OU would still make a good game.

sorry but utsa is not eligible.

Hmm.... I don't remember saying that.

The Alamo is a good bowl, so we shouldn't make it sound the the GMAC Bowl or the like. Anyhoo, the last time the goons were in a bowl this low was darth visor's first year and they went to Shatport. The Alamo, who can get a team like ttek or Neb or OSU on any given year, will always go apeshit when a team like UT or uo (or Ohio/Mich/PennSt) has a poor year and falls into their laps.

Of the non-BCS bowls, it's easily top 3.

now that's probably true.

even though they take the Big XII #4, the Alamo Bowl is getting so good that the payout this coming year is $2.25 million and is on Saturday January 2nd.

compare that to the Holiday Bowl that takes the Big XII #3 which has a payout of $2.13 million and is on Wednesday, December 30th.

For exposure sake, I think we'd all much rather have our respective teams fall to #4 in this scenario.

MajorMike
11-11-2009, 12:16 PM
No, it is not a Top 3 non-BCS Bowl. For sure the top 3 non-BCS are the Capital One Bowl (Citrus Bowl; B10 #2 vs SEC #2), the Cotton (B12 #2 vs SEC #3/4) and the Outback (SEC #3/4 vs B10 #3). All 3 of those bowls are payouts over 3 mil. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has an ACC payout over 3 mil and an SEC payout of 2.5 (ACC #2 vs SEC #5). Even the Gator has a payout of 2.5 (ACC #3 vs BE #2/ND/B12).

The Alamo is the 2nd best bowl a B12 team can get if non-BCS.

The Alamo Bowl's new deal with the Pac 10 might make it better than the Outback Bowl. We don't really know just yet as we'll have to wait a while to see the payouts of course, but either way it'll be a better matchup, IMO.

If it's not 3rd, then it's a very close 4th.

Edit: forgot the Gator Bowl.

Alamo Bowl is a solid 5th, very close 4th.

I'm not trying to be a dick and say the Alamo is a crap bowl, because its one of the best out there. Only prob is as far as payout the SEC bowls get more cash.

i know we know this but tech going to this or holiday they get the same payout, so the only way its better for the big XII is if nebraska would have one giving the big XII more money, so sun holiday or alamo all get the same amount in the long run

pretty good bowl schedule,

OU standford will be interesting

tech and OU only big XII teams favored to win

no doubt, although would it really surprise anyone if Tech went ahead and lost by 30?

that said, even if Tech wins by 50, it's still just an exhibition game that means absolutely nothing to anyone outside of Leach's coaching resume.
