For those wondering…Bynum is “doing well” (http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2009/09/08/for-those-wonderingbynum-is-doing-well/22171/)

For all those inquiring minds….

Andrew Bynum is “doing well”, “feels great” and apparently did not hook up with Orlando’s Dwight Howard over the summer, according to his agent, David Lee. Bynum had mentioned during the NBA Finals that he might train with the Magic center.

Lee told me in a phone conversation Tuesday that Bynum has been working out in Atlanta all summer, where he has an established training base and the place he has migrated to during the off-season for the past several summers. That’s also why there has been no sightings (or stories) of the young Lakers center in and around L.A. the past three months.

“He’s doing great, he’s fine, there aren’t any problems,” Lee said. He was referring to Bynum’s troubled knees.

Lee said Bynum would be back in Southern California on Sept. 18, 11 days before the Lakers open training camp.

If Bynum can stay healthy he'll be an All-Star this season.

When that happens the Spurs fan base will collectively weep uncontrollable tears, daily.

Enjoy watching the Lakers go back to back San Antonio. Take notes this time so your franchise can remember how it's done. Too bad it'll be another generation or two before the black and silver even sniff the finals again.

He'll get around 28-30 minutes a game. That's more than enough. The only question is if he can stay on the court. He was playing at an all-star level the last two seasons right before he was injured.

Says the guy that actually believed the Spurs could beat the Lakers last two seasons come playoff time. lol

With Yao and Shaq out, please tell us why Bynum can't be an All-Star if he stays on the court plays like he did before he went down.

Nene
Possibly Duncan
Okafor
Okur
Amare will probably have to shift to C
Al Jefferson will be listed as a C

It will be tough for him to beat out all of those guys, but if he regains his pre-injury form, he might have a chance as a reserve or back up.

If Bynum can get out of PJ's dog house, he could possibly make the allstar game now that Shaq is in the east, and Yao is down.

If Duncan moves to his natural position at center, then it will be tough for him to get the nod over Jefferson and Duncan. Not Dick Jefferson, but Al Jefferson.

Duncan doesn't want to be labeled as a center. He already plays center more than he does PF but he'll go in as PF.

Al Jefferson isn't a real center. Bynum destroyed him head to head the last two seasons. It was clear who the superior player was when you watched those games. Al Jefferson is one of the worst big man defenders in the entire league. He's also coming off ACL surgery and plays for the Wolves.

Jackson's doghouse? Bynum wasn't healthy in the playoffs. That much was obvious. Bynum was playing heavy minutes before he was injured. He'll get the minutes if he can stay healthy.

Okafor could have a very good year with the Hornets with Paul and West. Okur is a very good player as well.

I don't see how Amare can't play center to be honest.

Marcus Camby
Nene
Tim Duncan (if he play at C)
Chris Kaman
Andries Biedrins
Emeka Okafor (he will probably at C because West will be PF)
Al Jefferson
Amare Stoudemire (if he play at C)
Mehmet Okur

Camby - never been an all-star, won't be now that he's off the bench and Blake getting all the touches/shine.
Nene - never been an all-star and Bynum had better numbers than Nene last year.
Duncan - His wife made sure of that - forever a F on the ballot.
Kaman - See Camby.
Biedrins - not a good player, won't get touches as well because of Randolph
Okafor - Doesn't score, not a great shotblocker.
Jefferson - possible.
Amare - he'll be C, likely.
Okur - please, he sucks.

Biggest key is how the ballot looks like. Amare could just be a F, and with the spotlight on LA, if they have a great record, he'll get the voting power behind him.

Oh wait, only 70 wins this year, not 75.

Huh? 62-70 wins, easy.

I disagree. I think they might make a transition similar to what the 2001 Lakers team looked like. It coasted through the regular (unlike the previous season when the team won 65+ games), but then ran train once the playoffs started and didn't have an 7 game scares like the previous season.

If bynum does get into the allstar game, he'll be the most undeserving ever. Big Al will have a monster season, still get no love. It's a popularity contest, and we all know the laker dick riders roll deep. Andrew is not the best center in the west, he's not the best center on the laker, he's not even the best Andrew as a center.

It's only logical. We expect to be better just like every other team. A healthy Laker team with the addition of the best defender in the league should increase our wins at least five games, right?

So shouldn't the Lakers expect to win 80 games? I mean, you guys didn't win 75 last year only because Bynum got hurt, and now with him healthy, and the best defender in the league (since when did Dwight Howard join the Lakers, btw?), you should expect to win 80 games.

I think it's totally logical for the Lakers to go 80-2, and then 16-0 in the playoffs, despite the fact that they were not able to go close to that last year, and with significant upgrades from their main competitors.

Though Bynum made Howard quit.

It was the lakers team defense, that frustrated Howard, and if anything it was gasol who did a good job holding him. Laker fans, you ever considered maybe he's not the future franchise center, you hype him up to be?

Well, I know we will slack on teams like Charlotte, and no one likes going to that miserable suicide city Portland. And last year we had no main competitors!!! I will allow you to say the teams way below the Lakers made up some ground, but there were no competitors.

Last year...
Boston-sweep
Cavs-sweep
Rockets-sweep
Nuggets-3-1
Spurs-2-1, and needed a miracle shot to win that one.

You see my point.

Bet you a healthy roc squad woulda went toe to toe with the laker, even with the injuries, rockets still gave ya competition.
When healthy

tmac<Kobe by a small margin

If the Lakers were sweeping their main competitors and fail to win 70, it means that they are losing to teams that they are supposed to win against. Given the volatility of Artest, and the questionable health of Bynum, you should, at the most logical, expect the same number of wins the Lakers got last year.

Bynum played such amazing defense during his 19 minutes on the court, that he limited Howard during the other 23 minutes and 42 seconds while sitting on the bench.
