The Suns and Pavlovic, acquired from Cleveland in June in the Shaquille O'Neal trade, agreed to a buyout (http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/09/14/20090914spt-sunspavlovic.html) that will save the Suns $500,000 more than they stood to save on simply waiving the guard.

we should sign him and ship fin ass out of here lol

Finley can still hit clutch shots, and he knows our system. He'll be good in limited minutes.

Pavlovic is a really, really solid and very underrated player. He can help on the glass from the 2 guard spot. He can guard bigger guys, too. Whoever picks him up will be getting a steal, if it's for the minimum. 0% chance it's the spurs.

I can't believe I agree with you on something but this is 100% right. My guess is he'll be going back to Europe though.

Why would it be the minimum?

for the minimum he would be a no brainer IMO. for a LLE contract, he could still be a nice deal and worth the gamble.
yes, he is erratic and unreliable, but his talents and abilities would fit very nice with the Spurs. he has all tools to become a very good solution for a 3rd man in the wing rotation.
and he is one of the players, who I think still could get it, if he falls into the right environment.
remember how problematic a player (and reportedly person) James Posey was till about 26-27? then he met Hubie Brown and a locker room with Shane Battier and Bo Outlaw as the leaders and turned into a very good role player. I see some Posey potential in Pavlovic.

In the past decade, 334 players (other than Pavlovic) have played as much minutes as Pavlovic in the NBA. Among these 334 players, 329 have a better PER than Pavlovic.

which tell you what???
that Pavlovic is
a: a very bad player?
b: the PER system is the worst method to judge a player in any sport ever?

so, let's test the PER.....

player A is Sasha Pavlovic

2003/04 79 14.5 MPG PER = 10.4
2004/05 65 13.3 MPG PER = 10.3
2005/06 53 15.3 MPG PER = 6.8
2006/07 67 22.9 MPG PER = 12.1
2007/08 51 23.3 MPG PER = 7.2
2008/09 66 15.9 MPG PER = 8.7

according to the PER system player B is the an even much worse player than Sasha Pavlovic, who managed to deliver worse numbers despite much more played minutes

2003/04 82 32.0 PER = 8.3
2004/05 82 32.0 PER = 9.5
2005/06 82 33.5 PER = 9.2
2006/07 82 30.0 PER = 7.2
2007/08 81 30.3 PER = 7.0
2008/09 80 18.9 PER = 5.4

most here will know who player B is, who according to PER should never have seen a single minute on a NBA court.
but my theory is, that PER numbers should have never seen a single moment on any stat sheet in the world of basketball. it's as useful as John Hollinger as your chief talent scout.

btw. all this of course does not mean that Sasha Pavlovic is any good at all. maybe he would suck also with the Spurs. maybe.
what sucks for sure is the PER. PER is the Jerome James of stats.

Sasha Pavlovic was clutch in like 1 or 2 playoff games his entire career. I'll stick with Fin please.

the knicks should pick him up. they have like no shooting guard.

He wouldn't replace Finley or Mason so that means he'd take either Hairston or Williams spot. I'd rather stick with one of those guys.

PER isn't a method to judge a player, it just summarizes stats.

Bowen greatness was his perimeter defense and it didn't show in his stats. Pavlovic hasn't some kind of hidden skills that doesn't show up in his stats. He is just an average to good defender.

PER or not, Pavlovic has been a bad NBA player so far. He has had a quite good year to get a new contract but that's all.

I can see why you are interested in him. On the paper, a player that is quite athletic, a good defender and a good shooter is a great fit for Spurs. Now, even if his skills are a good fit, I simply think he isn't a good enough.

as I wrote, I would be interested for a small price. then he might be worth the gamble.
I believe he has the talent and the tools. his problems are mostly in the heart and maturity department. that's why I thought a team like the Spurs might be what it takes to make him a decent NBA player. a bit like Delfino maybe, who the Spurs wanted in 2008. (Delfino is the better player overall though).

Well, LLE with the tax cost $4M. It isn't a small price to me.

For the min?
If Pavlovic is fine with being at the end of the bench and if Hairston, Williams and McClinton suck, maybe. Otherwise, no.

Timberwolves signing Pavlovic

After completing a buyout with the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, guard Sasha Pavlovic(notes) has agreed in principle on a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Pavlovic, 25, was traded to the Suns with Ben Wallace(notes) in the Shaquille O’Neal(notes) trade in June. He played five seasons with the Cavaliers before the deal. With proceeds from the Suns buyout, Pavlovic will make $2.75 million this season.http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-pavlovicwolves091509&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

yeah, pretty quick signing. 1.5 million is the kind of money I thought he is worth to risk.
this once more raises the question, what plan the Wolves follow. it's not that they have a lack of average wing players. (yeah I know. Wolves and plan don't fit)
they already have: 2 PGs, who will play a lot at SG, 3 classic wings, 3 combo forwards, who will play some SF. (if Cardinal plays at all)
even if some of this 8 players won't see much court time, I really can't see how they build their wing rotation. the only logic would be, they trade Brewer and/or buy out Wilkins or Cardinal.

please Kahn, free Ryan Gomes from that mess.

What ever happened to that guy? I remember he played fairly well in the 07 Finals.
