Golden State's Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for saying he wanted to be traded. Jackson, who averaged a team-best 20.7 points per game last season, told Dime Magazine last month that he wanted out and had told the front office as much. Players are not permitted to make trade requests publicly.

Wait..didn't Artest do this in Indiana and not get fined?

Did Kobe get fined with his whirlwind tour?

Looks like NBA is picking on a guy. 90% of guys who get traded say something publicly.

You are an idiot if you think Malik Rose wanted to be traded. He played a big role for the Spurs all the way up until the deadline and was then exiled to the bench forever in New York. He was a fan favorite here in San Antonio.

Pop's foot has been in nearly every Spurs ass at one time or another (see Bruce Bowen last season). Pop runs this team, unlike PJax with the Lakers, who hugs Kobe's nuts.

Now hold on there a second, hoss. Now you tell me Phil hugs Kobe's bean bag. A few days ago you told me Phil called him everything but a black man when he busted that chick's starfish there in CO..

Were you lying then, or, are you lying now?

I like how you put an asterisk on Wo*k like how spurs put an asterisk on that derek fisher .4 shot or the spurs * on the lockout season...

after some deduction I believe you implied one of two things, either:

A) You were trying to be cute, which I think you succeded

or

B) You are implying dunc n dave doesn't have a real or deserved job as to merit an asterisk.

which one is it culby?

This is outrageous. Kobe goes on a tour asking to be traded, nothing happened. Artest said he wanted out, nothing happened. Jason Kidd wanted out when he was in New Jersey, publicly showing frustration, not fined. Finally, you have Vince Carter who basically threw his tantrum around when he was with the Raptors and wanted out. I doubt he was fined. This is retarded.

So I'm guessing Stern is trying to make an example out of Jackson. He tends to do that a lot with NBA players. The NBA will be better once he's done being the boss.

I was striving to be "cute", 83. I only used the asterisk as if I'm appalled at even mentioning the words [work] or [job].

& then you had Rodman with you guys who took a fit wanting to be: A. traded &&& B. get David Robinson off his front porch stoop with the "Watchtower".

The Selective Ban of Public Trade Requests (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-44-60/The-Selective-Ban-of-Public-Trade-Requests.html)
TrueHoop

How many times have we heard it? Granted, it's not all that common, but it certainly is a known quantity.

NBA players sometimes say, into the microphones of reporters, that they would like to be traded.

Kobe Bryant, for instance, has done just that. (May 31, 2007 to Stephen A. Smith (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=kobetranscript): "I would like to be traded, yeah." There's no ifs, ands or buts about it? "No.")

Shaquille O'Neal did it (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1830201), too. Al Harrington (http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2008/10/29/from-the-horses-mouth/). And others, besides.

Well, apparently, that's against NBA rules.

Stephen Jackson has been fined by the NBA (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4476373) for making a public trade request.

The NBA points out that Ron Artest was once similarly fined, in the 2005-2006 season.

But was Bryant? O'Neal? Harrington?

Looks to me like players involved in that brawl in Detroit -- Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest -- get fined for trade requests. But does anybody else?
