This war might have been the biggest waste of money in human history.

Just think of it as "economic stimulus".

More true than funny, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, the war will outlive the need for Keynesian pump-priming.

OTOH, maybe permanent war counts as industrial policy by default.

I hope Obama gets Bin Laden the day before the 2012 election. Otherwise, they may not call his victory a landslide.

My God man. Not only was that 5 years ago, but the State Department was in charge of that. The same people who outed Plame, and worked against the president.

Another thing to consider. The money didn't go missing, they just didn't account for where it went.

Damn technicalities.

OK, tell me you know where all the money you ever spent went?

After you buy yourself a kid's mean at McDonalds, do you know if your money was used as change to someone else, or to the bank, or what? I guess your money goes missing if you don't keep track of it, right?

I guess I have allot of money missing because I don't even keep track of hardly any money I spend.

Look, I am concerned about the malpractice of handing out funds. I am simply trying to make people think of the implications they make. Unaccounted for is not the same as missing.

I think it depends on which way you use 'missing'. You can mean missing as "gone forever" or you can mean it as "don't know where it is".

The problem in this case, is that, with the money being unaccountable, there's no way to tell if it's "gone forever" (ie. stolen) or "don't know where it is" (ie. spent on the right things but we have no documentation).

That's why it's such a big deal, I think. No matter how much the government may say, "Don't worry, it wasn't stolen", they simply can't prove it.

I agree it's a concern. Missing is just too general of a word, and "unaccounted for" is the correct term.

Ever been in situations that required rapid action with inadequate manning? How many people do things responsibly?

Now I do fear some or much was stolen. Problem is, there is no way to tell. The State department really screwed up if you ask me. However, I wasn't there to pass adequate judgment, and neither was anyone else here I bet.

Hint: if you still can't account for it after 5 years, it's officially missing.

..I think he can account for it in the 'unaccounted for' file, which is sub-filed under 'missing'..
