Larry Brown Back In Top Neurotic Form (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-larrybrownbackintopn&prov=tsn&type=lgns)
SportingNews
Larry Brown has been a great coach, a foolish one and, recently, a testament to his own will to survive (even if it means dragging the Bobcats along with him).
He's also a world-class kvetch, which has endeared him to some, alienated others and somehow only made matters with the Knicks uglier. Go figure. So it is with some interest that I read the following snarky comments to reporters concerning the Bobcats lack of depth at the PF slot.
From the Charlotte Observer:
During his media availability Monday, Brown was asked about what the Bobcats could have done for a backup power forward. Brown mentioned that Drew Gooden was available. Brown mentioned that Hakim Warrick was available. Brown mentioned that Antonio McDyess was available …You'll notice that none of those players are on the Bobcats roster as training camp starts here Tuesday morning.
Yup, that's Larry. The guy who could've gotten his own sitcom, and who drove many would-be supporters insane by complaining unless—and even sometimes when—he had control over personnel. That was the hitch with the Knicks, but unless the Sixers were winning by the bushel, Brown's tone was very much the same.
What's intriguing here is that the basketball brain for Charlotte is none other than Michael Jeffrey Jordan. I'd been under the impression that members of the Tar Heel family couldn't speak ill of each other, or at least had to do so like men. And not that I expect Brown to bow before Jordan, but still, MJ gets no respect whatsoever as an executive.
Maybe this is just Larry being Larry, but like so many others saddled with that cliche, Brown's worn it out. Plus, given the other people involved, his frostiness does seem a little unusual.
