I was reading the lastest POS from Kelly Dwyer the other day where (s?)he says that Michael Jordan is the prototypical shooting guard. I did a double take, I always thought of Jordan as more of a Small Forward (Lebron James) than a Shooting Guard (Kobe Bryant).

On wikipedia he is listed as shooting guard (but it's pointed out that he could obviously play as a small forward), on basketball-reference he's listed as guard-forward (ok thanks).

Of course it's a bit like the discussion of whether Duncan is a PF or a center. But what is your feeling re: Jordan, and more importantly: why?

He was mainly a shooting guard.

Why? Because he was.

You are retarded. This #33 faggot is an instinct SG and the more convincing stuff is that the #3 is a fulltime SG. Michael Jordan is only listed as SG to deprive Kobe of the crown for this position that he deserves.

rogue, is that you again?

Dennis Scott played almost exclusively at the small forward position in the NBA. During their really good years, Nick Anderson was the 2-guard on those Magic teams.

According to Jordan himself, Olajuwon was a SF playing as a Center

Um, the Bulls had this great SF. His name was Scottie Pippen. Obviously Jordan was a SG.

Sorry, I forgot about the strict NBA rule that there should be only one SF per team :rolleyes

Anyway it's only semantics, I always felt that MJ's play was too "physical" or "athletic" to be a pure SG, but I don't have a problem if he's seen as a SG.

Jordan actually played lots of point before they traded for Pippen. I can't ever remember him playing much SF though.

There can only be one SF in the starting lineup, so if someone is in the same starting lineup as Scottie Pippen, he's not a SF.

I agree that Michael Jordan was a SG and it's dumb to argue that, but how would you classify Rashard Lewis and Hedo, i mean none of them are truly PF's, but Rashard has to play that position because they don't have anyone else that can play at that spot last season. If their season ended today, i think most people would say they would be both SF's.

Yea, He could have played PG if he wanted as well, doesn't make him a PG. MJ is the best player EVER and is and always was a SHOOTING GUARD.

Reading through this thread makes me feel uncomfortable. Like watching a 90 pound dork getting rolled by some jocks in Junior High.
