If enough of you are interested, I'll start up a weekly, 9-cat roto league (note: not h2h) and we'll draft in about a fortnight.

I want at least 11 others to do this, and if you aren't interested in participating until the end, don't bother (i.e. if you are a fantasy bandwagoner who abandons their teams at the first sign of trouble, please do it elsewhere).

Register your interest below.

Thanks,

Sign up any time.

I have set the draft for Saturday 24th October, 6pm EST (US), which is 9am Sunday in Australia. I thought that would be a good time to do it since a lot of people in America could draft and then go out on Saturday night, but of course it is negotiable. We can bring that forward to next weekend if you like too.

Note - it is a roto league, not h2h, and I haven't gone with the standard settings because Yahoo is far too lax about giving players multiple positions when they don't deserve them, which means that if you have G, F, and 2 utilities, positions become meaningless. I think it's a bit more of a challenge to effectively have to build 2 starting 5s, and that's why I added a bench of four, which also makes the free agent market slimmer and more challenging. Hope no-one objects to those changes too much - if you do we can debate it in this thread. On vetoing trades, popular vote decides. I will use my commissioner powers as little as possible - the only thing I would block would be lopsided trades from a team out of the playoff race to aid a team in the running, as that is against the spirit of the game.

Looking forward to this. Let the game begin!

PS The league can take up to 14 teams, so get in there! :)

Oh, and please make your team name your ST handle so that we can easily identify each other for smack talk and such! :lol

Note, I just changed the league to 12 teams max (from 14), so get in quick. We have 6 teams already.

12 team leagues are about ideal, I reckon, and given the positional challenge I've incorporated into this one, and that it's roto, 12 is a good number.

Hey Ruff, why is it that some people don't like to add turnovers to their league, but instead go 8cat? I was just checking out a Rick Kamla vid and he was saying how it destroys your league?
lol, Kamla loathes 9-cat. When he used to do his nightly call-in show, he'd routinely dress his callers down over their use of TOs.

I think his logic is that star players get more TOs, just in the way of handling the ball for 36 minutes a night. It leaves your best players flawed. I understand and all things being equal I prefer 8-cat, but IMO it isn't that big a deal. Everyone's in the same boat.

RuffnReadyOzStyle
10-15-2009, 07:02 PM
Well, I'm not wedded to TOs, but I think it does add a twist. I could also change it to assist:TO ratio if people would prefer that. I think 9-cat is the way to go though.

3 spots left, people.

RuffnReadyOzStyle

Check this beastly team, guys. It's h2h, so I punted 3 cats - FT%, TOs and 3s - and went super-strong in the rest. I was drafting at #6, competitive 12-team league:

1. Howard
2. Melo
3. Rondo
4. Rose
5. TP
6. A Randolph
7. Diaw
8. Bogut
9. J Thompson
10. Deng
11. Stuckey
12. K-Mart
13. Perkins

It's a beast in pts, rbs, asts, stls, blks and FG%. :D

Damn good H2H team.

Just finished one of my drafts (12 team 10 cat Roto (TO + Offensive Boards)

PG: Rajon Rondo/Tony Parker/Aaron Brooks/Allen Iverson
SG/SF: Danny Granger/John Salmons/Tyrus Thomas/Anthony Morrow
PF/C: Brook Lopez/Elton Brand/Al Horford/Joakin Noah

Dropping Gallinari for Channing Frye.

I'm fairly happy, especially with my late round picks (Brooks/Iverson). But, I fear I'm going to struggle a bit in 3s, assists. Should be competitive in scoring, boards and defensive stats.

Looking forward to the draft.

Nice, although I wonder how %s will turn out for you as well. Then again, this is my first year playing roto, so I don't quite have a feel for it yet.

Well, I was going to confine this league to the NBA forum, but we need players so I'm going to shop it in the Spurs forum.

I'm hoping the big guys + Rondo and Parker will help offset the FG% of Granger/Ty Thomas and Brooks (I doubt I'm going to play Brooks and AI at the same time).

FT% just trying to stay middle of the pack competitive in; but with Brand/Rondo/Noah I may be in a bit of trouble. Hopefully Parker continues his upward trend.

Roto is fun, but it can be less intense than H2H definitely. Although, I usually pretty play Roto. Only dabbled in H2H last year.

aight if you have the first pick in the first round, then you will have the last pick in the second round. you have the last pick in the first round, but you will get the first pick in the second round. The entire draft you will get back to back picks. you wont be able to land kobe or lebron but you can still draft just as good of a team as anyone else.

kbury - you are getting great value for that trade, but so am I in that I din't need Duhon (I like DJ more), it balances out my team, and Turiaf gives me production across the board, even a bit in assists.

They're both pretty easy to use but ESPN has a better fit and finish and better tools. Free scoring updates too which Yahoo! doesn't have (last time I used Yahoo! it didn't at least). Just something to keep in mind for next year.

Majority of the league needs to vote against a trade to veto it, but the veto mechanism is not there to be used at whim - it's to prevent people giving lopsided trades to their friends when they are out of the running. Message to all - later in the season, DON'T DO THIS. If you try I will over-ride it as Commish. It is the only thing I will override, but I hate that shit because it is basically cheating.

As for your offer lakaluva, nope. I'm keeping Evans. Now that I've swapped Duhon for Turiaf, my roster is balanced and I'm going to stand pat for a while.

PS Just for fun, and because DWill only plays twice this week, I'm going to start Duhon. :)

I wish I could say it's because of my incredible drafting prowess...but autodraft keeps shooting holes in my ego.

Yeah, aside from Troy Murphy and Tim Duncan (a bit) I've been pretty lucky with injuries so far *knocks on wood*. That and my guards have been decent. Bad luck with Jameer Nelson.

Still a loooooooooong way to go though in the season. I doubt Dwight is going to be only blocking like less than 2 shots a game for the rest of the season.

Hello all,

The trade deadline is only 5 days away (March 4), so please get into the international thread to post players you'd like to move. We could do a trade deadline chat if you like using the Spurstalk chat room, but timing will be difficult given that we're across the Pacific from each other.

LMK what you want to do in the thread.

The post above was for the wrong league! Actually, I think I cut and pasted without editing it...

Anyway, no activity at the deadline - it has been a very quiet league, although I'm not quite sure why. Given that most of you are active NBA forum denizens, I expected sparks to fly.

QUESTION - do you want me to set it up again next year? Please answer in the thread.

PS Look at my vault up the standings! I've gone from last to 4th in the space of about 6 weeks, and I'm still an outside chance to finish top 3. Just shows that even if you get screwed by injuries at the start of the year, you can still recover. ;)
