I didn't see the game but from what I've been reading on the live blog, Blair had a good game.

Good for us but let's temper our excitement....he's going to have some ups and downs especially when he plays against the big boys. But it sounds as if he's starting off on the right foot.......:hat

it's kind of funny that our #28 pick in Mahinmi pretty much has the same exact impact and style as Portland's #1 overall pick..the difference is that there's nobody that we missed out on to regret, while Kevin Durant is balling in OKC..

You're confusing his lack of ACLs with cartilage damage like your boy Bynum has. Blair's knee is perfectly cushioned, it's just that his stability comes from the surrounding muscles instead of ligaments.

Perhaps he is but it's still preseason. Before we crown him the "second coming", let's see how he does during the season against the all pros. He'll probably have good/band games.

Don't mean to sound like a party pooper...as a Spurs fan I'm happy he's off to a great start. And I hope he gets better as the season progresses.

I like what Blair brings to the table, but come on, stop dick-riding him after a preseason game.

Too many people on here are already calling for Bonner's playing time to get eaten into. Really? Do you realize how invaluable a big that can spread the floor like Bonner is? Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked to have another guy that brings a different element, but Bonner is proven. He's one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. Use your head.

Yes, I realize a lot of STers shit on Bonner including myself. Most of us do appreciate the 3 pt shooting, but he lacks in other qualities, he's not a game changer on the defensive side. There is no fear in going up against him. IMO putting him in the starting line up, jacking up 3's (whether he makes them or not) is not good for team rhythm on both offense and D. Good ole Spurs basketball that has brought home the LOB trophy was centered around D and rebounding, and thankfully it looks like we are headed back in that direction..

HarlemHeat37
10-07-2009, 02:12 PM
Well there are going to be a number of games where Bonner is gonna play ahead of Blair, and sometimes that's going to be the right move..Matt can stretch out the D very effectively, while Blair is one of the better rebounders in the NBA..they will both get their turns, depending on the matchups..they're both defensive liabilities though, so I would like to see them playing next to Duncan or Ratliff at all times..

Based on what people saw last night, Blair + Bonner together on the floor = conga line to the hoop.

No knock against Blair's defense, but he doesn't look like he can really protect the rim.

Blair is something else. Watching him last night reminded me of how Rodman used to go after rebounds. But, Blair looks similar to Sir Charles in his early years before he got so fat. Wide body with a hell of a wingspan. His biggest problem will be finding situations Pop can play him. Most guys at his position are 6'10" and taller. But, his determination and hustle will do him well in Pop's eyes. Pop & crew will figure it all out.

Supposedly his long arms give him the reach of someone who's 6'10", so I don't see his lack of height being much of an issue at all.

His height will only be an issue at the defensive end in terms of shotblocking....... but we knew coming in that he'd be a mess in that regard anyway. 11 of his boards were defensive. A good sign. He will improve. He's got a fire like no one i've ever seen.

Its not only about height, it is about positioning and desire/agressiveness and having a wide body that takes up space to move guys off the block and wingspan. Blair has all those things that make up for the lack of height.

Nobody Beats The Wiz: The biggest shock on draft night in June was how far Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair tumbled, sliding out of the first round and to the San Antonio Spurs with the 37th pick.

Concerns over old ACL injuries stopped teams from picking him and since signing his deal in San Antonio in July, Blair has been killing everyone he's faced. So far on the pre-season Blair leads all Spurs players in scoring with 17.7 points and 8.30 rebounds per game.

Last night Blair hung 28 points on the Miami HEAT on 11 for 13 shooting.

Dubbed "The Wiz" while at Pittsburgh due to his knack of being able to do just about anything with the basketball, Blair seems to be on a mission to prove his doubters wrong, and so far a lot of teams look foolish for passing on him.
